Brief Character History

One night when Drucilla Winters had taken a double dose of her cold medication which left her groggy, and Neil's brother Malcolm was asked to stop by and check on her, she mistook him for her husband Neil, and invited him to her bed. His secret desires for Dru got the best of him that night when he thought she really wanted him. After their love-making Malcolm realized he had made a terrible mistake and confided in Dru's sister Olivia. Dru made Malcolm swear that he would never mention what happened between them to anyone else, especially Neil. Dru soon found herself pregnant, and not knowing which Winters brother was the father, considered abortion. But when the doctor told Dru she had a condition that made it lucky she had conceived, let alone ever would again, she reconsidered. Dru and Malcolm decided the baby would remain Neil's no matter what, and only they and her sister Olivia would know the incident had ever happened. Lily's best friend was always her cousin Nate, son of Dru's sister Olivia and the deceased Nathan Hastings.

After the birth of her baby Lily, Dru signed a contract and returned to modeling, which took her away from home and infuriated Neil. Neil felt that unless a wife had a meaningful job (like being a doctor like Liv), her place was in the home. In his loneliness he turned to the recently widowed Liv, who agreed with his Neanderthal ideas. When Dru told a reporter that she owed her career to her wonderful understanding husband, Neil caved in and they reconciled. When Dru realized that Neil was actually bent on keeping Dru pregnant and unable to model she started on the pill behind his back. Meanwhile, thanks mainly to Malcolm's bond with Nate since the death of his father, Malcolm (now a successful photographer) fell in love with Olivia and proposed. Neil discovered Dru's deception and moved out, determined to stay out of his wife and daughter's lives. Time passed and Dru and Neil reunited and split again and again thanks to Neil's beliefs conflicting with Dru's dreams. Dru finally took off with Lily for the runways of Paris and filed for divorce.

Dru showed up at Neil's apartment in the summer of 2002 with the now 14 year old Lily in tow, claiming Lily needs her father to change her smart-mouth attitude. But Dru was surprised to find that Neil had quit his job, become an alcoholic, and was living with barmaid Serena in a seedy part of town. Dru was followed soon by her current boyfriend and Lily's best friend, Psychiatrist Wesley Carter. After hitting bottom, Neil, with the help of Serena, decided to dry out for his daughter's sake. Reuniting the family with Dru and Lily began looking good to Neil, so Dru and Lily moved in "for Lily's sake." At the same time Wesley proposed, but Dru chose Neil. Lily wanted Wesley, so it didn't really help their relationship.

Colleen made friends with Lily Winters after finding they had a lot in common, both being transplanted to GC against their will. Local girl Sierra completes this trio of close friends. 15 year old Lily became involved with a guy in his 20's named Kevin Fisher whom she met on Internet. Colleen, J.T. and Sierra were convinced that Kevin was bad news, going so far as to interrupt what was to be their first sexual encounter at Kevin's apartment. Kevin took revenge by trashing the loft where J.T., Raul and Brittany live. Kevin then went to go meet Colleen in the park where he knew she waiting for JT. Kevin scared her with threats and pushed her down on the bench, but J.T. showed up just in time and ran Kevin off. Kevin talked Lily into sex to "prove their love, and another night Lily sneaked out and Kevin gave her some sexy lingerie, which Lily uncomfortably refused to wear. Kevin got mad and told her he wasn't sure this was going to work, but Lily assured him that she wanted to be with him. The next day, Lily skipped school to go to Kevin's all day. For Colleen and Sierra, that was the final straw, and they told her parents. When Neil showed up at Kevin's, and Lily disappeared down the fire escape. Neil threatened Kevin with arrest since Lily was underage, and told him to never see Lily again. In his ranting at Kevin, he mentioned that Lily's friends told them about Kevin.

As Kevin sat at the bar at Gina's, angrily writing the words "bitch" on a napkin, he overheard that Gina was closing up early. Kevin hid until the place was locked up. then left a message with Cody at Crimson Lights that Colleen's grandfather John wanted to meet her at Gina's before the they all went to the annual Arts Council Gala. When Colleen showed up at Gina's, Kevin lured her into the walk-in refrigerator, and locked the door. He poured a drum of floor cleaner plus alcohol all over the restaurant and started it on fire. Extremely pleased with himself, he went to Marsino's and pretended he had been working there all night when Bobby and Brittany showed up after the Gala. Kevin leered at Britt as she looked for her sheet music in Bobby's desk, then came onto her. After Britt rebuffed him and walked out, he threatened her and her singing career "going up in smoke." Later, he went by the scene of the crime and found Lily there, who begged him to leave because JT and Brad suspected Kevin was involved in Colleen's disappearance and started the fire. When Brad and JT saw Kevin they demanded to know where Colleen was, but Kevin said that he was only passing by. Police Detective Weber had no reason to hold him, so he let him go. Further investigation found no evidence, even Kevin's computer was wiped clean. Kevin continues to lure young girls on the Internet, while Lily had to confess all to her parents, though luckily not pregnant or HIV-positive, she was diagnosed with Chlamydia. At least it all brought her close to her parents again and she lost her attitude. After Kevin cornered Colleen in the ruins of Gina's, and scared her once again, JT went to his apartment and beat Kevin up. JT was arrested for assault, and Kevin now had two fathers gunning for him in Brad and Neil. Kevin showed up at long lost half-brother Michael Baldwin's office expecting legal help. Lily decided to file charges and testify against Kevin after she returned from the remarriage of her parents in Japan, but the police advised there was not enough evidence since Kevin's VD had been cured prior to testing.

Lily met troubled teen Devon, who was belligerent and just hung around watching and resenting the rich kids helping the neighborhood kids fix up the new Market Street Recreation Center. Lily's attempts to befriend him were rebuffed at every turn as Devon did not trust anyone - especially an obviously rich kid. To get her off his back, he made up answers to her questions, telling her how he went to a school in the rich part of town and was part of a big happy family. Later when Lily realized he was lying, Devon told her how he'd been shuttled from one group home to another since he was taken from his crack-head mother, and that his father was dead. He was currently living in a foster home, but was about to be kicked out for his behavior. Just as the bubbly and sweet Lily was finally getting through to Devon, and he started helping out and treating everyone better, he was told by his social worker, Lorena Davis, that there was no group home available so he'd have to be sent to a Level 12 facility which sounded more like jail.

Lily's mother Drucilla got to know the boy and saw herself at that age. Remembering how she had gone down the wrong road until Nathan had rescued her and taught her to read, she wanted to give back by helping Devon in the same way. So Dru convinced Neil and Ms. Davis to allow them to be temporary foster parents. Devon was blossoming once he knew someone cared, and he and Lily became very close. During this time, Devon told Lily he'd once seen his father only once hanging out in front of a convenience store.

Devon became part of the family, learning table manners, reading books, and such. Neil was hesitant, but Dru plotted to make the arrangement permanent, and was lying to Ms. Davis that Neil was on board with permanent fostering of Devon. When it was discovered that Neil knew nothing about it, Devon was to be sent to a Level 12 facility, but he ran away with Lily instead. Devon was found and Victor Newman, whose probation officer was also Ms. Davis, volunteered to take him until a group home could be found. Victor and Devon bunked together at the Rec Center in sleeping bags for a few weeks. The day he was to leave, Neil finally gave in and agreed to permanent foster care of Devon.

Three years after he was declared dead, Malcolm showed up in Genoa City, very much alive, sporting cornrows and a bad attitude. Malcolm was out for revenge against the brother who he thought stole his fiancé and left him for dead in Kenya. Malcolm explained that a family took him in and nursed him back to health, then he ended up having to take care of them. But he had returned mostly to see Nate again. Olivia was resentful that Malcolm didn't make himself known to Nate as soon as possible, sparing him the devastation of his death, and was making Malcolm wait to reveal himself until Nate returned from boarding school at the end of semester. Until then, Malcolm took a job as a waiter, and was later named Manager at Crimson Lights, and Olivia convinced him to stay in her extra bedroom. Malcolm hadn't forgotten the possibility that Lily might be his daughter, so Dru had a paternity test done. Although Lily knew that Dru and Uncle Malcolm had once been an item and wondered, when it turned out Malcolm really was Lily's father, they decided not to tell her or Neil the truth.

Devon's birthday came around, but no one remembered it. Disappointed, but unwilling to tell anyone but his friend Sierra, he skipped school and headed for the zoo. Later that night when he was discovered missing, Sierra tipped them to check the zoo. Dru, Neil, Lily and Malcolm found a terrified Devon marooned in the lion habitat, eye to eye with a lion! Malcolm climbed down into the pit and used skills apparently learned in Africa to distract the lion while Devon climbed out with the help of Neil, followed by Malcolm. Lily and Devon brought around the SUV to pick them up, but she lost control when it skidded on the ice and struck Neil. Neil made up with Malcolm, asking him to take care of his family in case he didn't make it through surgery. He relieved guilt from Devon and Lily, and said goodbye to Dru. In the waiting room, Lily blamed Devon, so when Mrs. Davis arrived, he asked be put into a group home. Dru intervened and assured Devon that families were all about love and forgiveness. Neil needed blood, and Lily wanted to donate, but Malcolm insisted he be the one. Devon helped Lily see that Malcolm needed to give back to his brother to mend the relationship, but Malcolm was really more interested in the possibility that Neil was not Lily's father. Neil came through the surgery fine.

Malcolm agreed to become the Jabot Photographer on the condition that Lily become the new Jabot teen model. Lily fell for Daniel Romalotti like a ton of bricks! Dru fought it at every turn because her nemesis Phyllis Abbott was his mother. But through a tragic turn of events, [see Daniel Romalotti profile] Daniel was charged with vehicular manslaughter in the death of Cassie Newman. Lily couldn't be parted from her new love, so talked Daniel into hiding out in the remote Abbott family playhouse. While the police, his mother, and a vengeful Nick Newman searched for Daniel, Lily was visiting him and bringing him food right under their noses. Malcolm figured it out, and tried to get Lily to talk Daniel into giving himself up. But instead they ran away together in Lily's car. The fugitives dumped the car in St. Louis with Nick Newman and Phyllis right on their heels. They turned up in Los Angeles, were camping on the beach and enjoying themselves, awaiting the return of Brendan, a musician friend of Daniel's father. Daniel began having dreams with flashes of the accident, finally realizing that it was not him, but Cassie driving the car. Meanwhile Brendan returned home to find Phyllis, Nick and Neil waiting for him. Nick brought in the police, and all went searching for the kids nearby. Phyllis discovered them working on the beach dressed in fruit costumes promoting a beachfront cafe, but didn't realize it was them until they disappeared. Daniel talked Lily into going to the cafe where the 3 awaited them to claim their paychecks, and Neil was reunited with Lily. Nick spotted Daniel watching, and chased and caught Daniel. Phyllis managed to stop Nick from beating up the kid. They turned the kids over to the police, and both were returned to Genoa City. Lily was out on bail, and Daniel went on trial for vehicular manslaughter where Christine and Paul failed to prove that Cassie was driving the car. But in a last minute save, Nick Newman turned over the evidence he'd been withholding - the clothes Cassie was wearing that fateful night. The boot she was wearing matched a piece of a heel found under the accelerator, the judge determined that Cassie was driving and let Daniel go free. Lily's parents made a deal to send her away to boarding school in New Hampshire and have no contact with Daniel to get the DA to drop the charges against her. Lily and Daniel vowed their undying love and were torn apart at the airport. Lily's school strictly kept them from contacting each other until they began communicating as Romeo and Juliet via a study website. But they got caught and that was stopped too. Then Lily's parents made her write a letter to Daniel dumping him, and Devon was asked to deliver it. Lily got a second letter to Devon telling Daniel that the first was a fake, but Devon kept it.

Lily arrived home for a long-weekend visit, popping out of a present for Devon's 18th birthday. But all Lily was thinking about was finding Daniel. Once Lily informed Daniel of the deception, they let everyone believe they no longer cared about each other and Lily was allowed to stay in town. Colleen helped them by faking a romance with Daniel but Lily and Daniel never stopped their affair. Eventually both sets of parents found out. Though Phyllis was more understanding, Neil and Dru were livid and threatened exposure of Lily to the police that she had violated her probation. So Lily and Daniel eloped to Las Vegas and began living in the former Abbott children's playhouse on their estate thanks to Jack's generosity. Daniel got a part time job working in the mail room at Newman Enterprises for the summer, and Lily worked at the Jabot boutique and after just finishing high school the summer after failing to graduate.

One day Lily overheard an argument between Phyllis and Dru and discovered the long kept secret of her paternity. She was very upset and emailed Daniel about it, but accidentally sent it to "Dad" instead of "Daniel". She discovered her error and tried to intercept it, but in the end Lily ended up telling Neil the truth - that she was not his biological daughter, and that his brother Malcolm was her father. Neil blew up at Dru and never let her completely tell the story of how it happened. Neil and Dru separated, and Dru began living with the also-separated Sharon Newman at the Newman Ranch. Neil began seeing co-worker Carmen Mesta who encouraged Neil's dream to own a jazz club, found him a space which he bought, renovated, and named Indigo. Devon began working part time as an intern at Newman Enterprises and attending GCU.

Daniel and Lily's young marital bliss was interrupted when Alex arrived back in town and began blackmailing Kevin and Daniel threatening to expose how he had helped them to pretend to attack Lily years ago. Daniel told Jack and Phyllis about it, and both suggested he tell Lily the truth, which he finally did. Meanwhile Kevin and Gloria had come up with a scheme to get rid of Alex. They drugged Alex, and videotaped a faked a rape scene with the help of Jana. Once Alex saw the tape he left town. But It was too late - Lily was understandably upset, believing she and Daniel had the perfect relationship with no secrets. She left him and moved back to her parent's who went back to hating Daniel. Not long afterward, Lily relented and asked Daniel to her graduation dinner, and they are reconciling, much to the disappointment of her parents who tried to force her into a divorce.

As a winter ice storm took out the power, Phyllis and Jack became trapped in the Newman elevator. Phyllis had been on her way to the hospital for a caesarean because her baby was in the breech position, but went into labor in the elevator instead. Fearful that the baby would not deliver normally and die, Phyllis implored Jack to cut the baby out of her. But Jack ended up turning and delivering the baby, who was later named Summer Ann. Meanwhile, Nick was out in the storm, rescuing Phyllis's son Daniel from a car wreck. Lily had to do CPR on Daniel while Nick sped them to the hospital. All were united later, Phyllis and baby were fine, and Daniel recovered with only broken ribs. Jack developed a close bond with Summer, and later setup a nursery for her at Newman.

In the middle of the Winter's marital problems, Devon went deaf after surviving meningitis. They reconciled, and the family bound together to support Devon by learning sign language and having their home equipped for the deaf. Devon was coping well considering he was a music major, but began looking into having a cochlear implant. He was being smothered by his over-protective foster parents, so he moved out to live with Lily and Daniel, but Jack Abbott ended up renting a house to all three to live together near the GCU campus. Neil gave Dru the job of decorating his jazz club Indigo and was hoping Devon would work there too. Indigo's successful grand opening featured Aaron Neville with a sign language interpreter just for Devon. But afterward, Carmen turned up bludgeoned to death in the alley behind the club. Dru, Neil, Devon and Lily all appeared before the Grand Jury to testify, and were among the murder suspects. But in a surprise turn of events, Devon was arrested for the murder of Carmen! While he was out on bail awaiting trial, his cochlear implant surgery was successful and was able to hear again. Neil and Dru took this opportunity to legally adopt Devon once they heard that his mother was back on drugs. 3 months later, Carmen's former lover David Chow showed up in Genoa City, hell-bent on getting Dru convicted for Carmen's murder after he received a copy of the video of Dru and Carmen's altercation. After hooking up with Leanna Love, the video was aired on TV, and all eyes are again pointing at Dru as the murderer. Chow was confronting Dru everywhere, even turning up at her apartment door just after Dru found her own clothes shredded like she did Carmen's. Then Dru started seeing dead Carmen and ended up checked into the psych ward, though it turned out that Carmen's identical cousin Inez was in cahoots with Chow and was gas lighting Dru. After Jana Hawkes confessed to being was the real killer, David and Inez appeared at Dru's competency hearing, vindicating her. However, she never revealed he was the one behind the gas lighting. Jana disappeared and both Dru and Devon were exonerated.

In April of 2007, Sharon told Drucilla she was being blackmailed by Phyllis over her affair with Brad Carlton. When Sharon and Phyllis began fighting on the edge of a cliff during a NVP photo shoot, Dru intervened. When all lost hold of the cell phone they were fighting over, they lost their balance and fell backward. Dru sailed off the cliff into the river below, and Sharon was left hanging onto the edge for her life. Phyllis tried to save her, but she lost her grip and Sharon also fell to the river below. Rescuers combed the area and found Sharon's lifeless body, but she was revived and lived. Dru was never found. Only the jacket she wore was found below the falls, so she was presumed dead. A prayer vigil was held at Indigo, where memories were shared by family and friends. Olivia remembered what a precocious child Dru had been, and how she had showed her love for Liv when she donated needed bone marrow when Liv was once on her deathbed. Sharon remembered her brutal honesty and her one-of-kind hats. Devon recalled that before Dru came into his life, no one had ever believed in him, and how she forced him through her love to believe in himself. Lily said Dru was the kind of woman who did it all - career and family, and was her role model. Neil believed Dru was still alive, declared that he was not going to give up looking for her, and called her loyal and passionate about life. For a while Neil was turning back to the bottle in his despair over losing Dru, but he stopped for the sake of his children.

Amber made friends with Daniel and they spend a lot of time together helping each other with their various deceptions. Amber showed him the Website where her online porn clips were featured, Daniel then joined the site and got hooked on Internet porn. Porn took over his life resulting in bad grades, getting caught looking at porn at work, getting phished which cleaned out his bank account, being arrested as underage and solicitation at a strip club, and the erosion of his marriage to Lily due to his continual lying about it all. Lily made him see a therapist but he lied about his progress as well. Chats with Neil, Jack, Devon, Phyllis, his therapist, and even Kevin did not get through to him as he denied and lied. Lily tossed him out and Devon punched him out. Lily and Daniel's marriage was dissolved due to the fact that they were underage when they married, using a falsified letter of consent from Malcolm.

Lily became interested in 31 year old Cane Ashby. He returned her feelings, though he tried to deny it, due to her being only 19 and Neil's disapproval, so they agreed to remain just friends. Meanwhile on election day, Neil met Karen Taylor, Nikki's campaign manager, and helped her after she locked her keys in her car, and they began dating. After the campaign was over and Jack won the Senate seat, Neil asked Karen to take his deceased wife's job at Newman Enterprises. They clashed when Karen changed Dru's marketing plan and Victor supported her. Neil apologized, realizing he was overly sensitive to anything concerning Dru including when Karen turned up with one of Dru's hats they had donated, liking the same movies as Dru did, etc. When Newman got involved in the Clear Springs Development Project, Karen was in charge of public relations.

Devon and Lily had a hard time getting past his "disrespect for Dru" but came to accept Karen when they celebrated Thanksgiving together and realized she was a great person with family traditions too, like her chicken adobo. By Christmas, they were happy to invite her themselves. Neil caught Karen singing at the piano at Indigo, and told her how good she was, encouraging her to sing at the club. Karen had terrible stage fright, but Neil lovingly got Pat Benatar to help her overcome it. She taught Karen a trick, then Karen sang fearlessly at the club. After her debut, Neil told Karen that he loved her and asked her to marry him. She said she didn’t think they were ready, but agreed to move in with him, and realized she was right when she found herself surrounded with all of his deceased wife Dru's things and Neil's memories.

Then Lily won the Fresh Face of Jabot contest which Cane was in charge of, and began learning to model. But hard as they tried to remain just friends, Lily and Cane ended up consummating their relationship on Valentine's Day. Caught by Neil leaving their room at the Athletic Club, still bathed in afterglow, Cane insisted on setting the record straight by telling Neil he was in love with Lily and promised not to hurt her. Lily got busy into her modeling career under the tutelage of Chloe, working long hours on her cover shot for the launch issue of Restless Style online/print magazine, flunking out of college, not eating due to pressure from Chloe about her figure, only to discover she was pregnant by Cane. After much indecision, Lily told Cane and her father. Then after going to her mother's old ballet studio to feel close to her mother, Lily decided to have the baby. Later Cane staged a lovely marriage proposal at the same studio, but Lily was hesitant to say yes, afraid he wanted to marry her for all the wrong reasons. Meanwhile Neil was making plans to raise Lily's baby with Karen, without consulting Lily, Cane, nor Karen beforehand - causing Karen to feel disrespected and move out. She quit her job at Newman and prepared to move to New York to work for a romance novel publisher. But when Cane & Lily went for the first ultrasound, it was discovered that there was no more baby. It had dissolved on its own due to imperfection. Cane and Lily were devastated, and Karen was great consoling Lily, and Kay & Jill in consoling Cane. Not long afterward came another blow for poor Lily - due to the intervention of a consultant, Lily was dropped from the Restless Style online/print magazine cover. Chloe needed a place to live, so moved in with Devon and Lily. Now overcrowded with Chloe and her unusual collection of stuff, plus worried about Lily's emotional state, Cane asked Lily to move in with him, but Lily turned him down. After a bit of soul-searching, Lily decided to go back to college and model only as a part time job. After Lily found out the Chloe had made a pass at Cane and Devon on separate occasions while drunk, she tossed Chloe out. Cane helped Chloe find a place to live just to get rid of her. Then one night after discovering she was pregnant, Chloe setup Cane to get drunk, then offered him a ride home. When Cane passed out in her car, she made it look as though they had had sex when Cane awoke.

The 2008 Charity Gala, organized this year by Sabrina and Victoria under the watchful eye of Kay Chancellor, was in full swing with all the Genoa City regulars attending in cocktail party attire. Devon and Ana entertained singing with a chorus. Chloe chose the occasion to announce her pregnancy by Cane just as Cane was proposing to Lily. Lily insisted on a prenatal paternity test, and when it came back not ruling out Cane as the father, she gave Cane back his ring and told him he should marry the mother of his child instead. Cane gave Chloe the ring and moved her into the back room of his house, claiming to be doing it for the child. Chloe began flaunting the ring and her pregnancy with a Chancellor heir all around Genoa City. Cane and Chloe were married by a Justice of the Peace. His mother Jill and Grandmother Kay decided to make the best of it since Cane had just been named CEO of Jabot and renamed their engagement party to a wedding reception. Chloe played sick to not attend, but Cane discovered her lie. But when Chloe showed up with Cane, Esther was shocked to find that Chloe was actually her daughter Kate! Even Kay was amazed, remembering Kate as a blonde, 30 pounds overweight, with glasses.

Chloe told Cane that her father rejected her mother before she was born. She had this worn dirty stuffed giraffe named Elmer she carried around until her mother changed out her room when she became a teen throwing out everything she loved, replacing it with a white bear. She told how she was stuck in boarding school and was ashamed of her mother being a maid. She had legally changed her name before her arrival in Genoa City. Cane was mostly tolerating Chloe and still pining for Lily. Lily decided it was too painful working with Cane and quit the Fresh Face of Jabot job. Cane offered it to her best friend Colleen and she accepted once Lily assured her it was OK.

Cane and Chloe began getting alone well in anticipation of their baby. But one day Lily came by, and during an argument with Chloe, Chloe fell from a ladder and had to be taken to the hospital. Her baby was OK, but she was confined to bed-rest with rare occasions on her feet. During her hospitalization, Billy got a nurse to admit the due date was incorrect, and realized that he was the father, but said nothing to Chloe.

Billy found out that Lily Winters was trying computer dating, so he became a guy online who called himself Sonny Crawford, whom Lily became quite enamored with. They finally met, and Lily was shocked, then thrilled that Sonny was Billy. After some time they were getting serious so they went up to the Abbott cabin at Twin Lakes to be alone. But Billy felt he had to confess to Lily about Chloe's baby before going any further. Lily was shocked and accused Billy of plotting with Chloe to break up her and Cane. About that time Chloe walked in the door of the cabin, and before she could join the conversation, went into labor. Unable to drive out due to a storm, Billy had to turn and deliver his daughter while being talked through it by Olivia on Lily's cell phone. Then Cane showed up after walking in past the road blocks, intending to tell Lily he loved and wanted her no matter what. The baby was fine, but Chloe was hemorrhaging and passing out, so they constructed a litter and carried her and the baby down to the waiting ambulance. Later in the hospital, Cane started asking questions about why they were at the cabin, and Lily threatened Billy that he'd better step up, tell Cane and claim his daughter. Billy went off to get drunk in a bar while Chloe almost died from blood loss and septicemia. Billy's brother Jack gave him good advice to fess up, confiscated his car keys, and left. Then Sharon showed up, also drunk, so the two of them hooked up and spent the night together in her room at the athletic club. The next day, Chloe confessed to Cane that her baby was not his, and Billy walked in to verify that he was the reluctant father. Cane exploded at them, including Lily for not telling him after she found out the night before. Cane shouted at them all, that the baby was his and he was not going to give her up. Later Cane signed the birth certificate naming himself the father and the baby Cordelia Katherine Valentine Ashby. Cane contacted Michael to get a divorce and custody of Cordelia, and Billy contacted Rafe to see what his rights were too. After slugging Billy when he showed up at the estate to see Cordelia, Cane explained the situation to Neil, then asked Lily how she would feel about marrying him and raising Cordelia together. Meanwhile Billy, who was supposed to be the doting father living with Chloe and Cordelia, was having an affair with his brother Jack's not-yet-divorced-wife Sharon. Once Cane was free of Chloe by annulment, he asked Lily to marry him, but she refused saying she could not raise Chloe's child because she believed Cordelia belonged with Chloe. But just prior to the hearing, Cane dropped the custody suit so Cordelia would never grow up without a mother like he did. Lily and Cane became engaged, set the wedding date for May 15th, and began working on a baby of their own. Kay offered Cane a job at Chancellor, but instead he chose to get out of the corporate rat-race, bought Billy’s favorite escape, Jimmy's Bar, and hired Mac as a waitress when she came in looking for a job.

Cane and Lily were married in the Catholic Church, Lily in her mother’s wedding gown and favorite pin in her hair. Colleen and Devon were maid of honor and best man, Katherine read scripture, and Ana sang. Afterward Cane thanked God for giving him a better life. He recalled the phone conversation he had with Langley just after he was proven to be Phillip, but this time Langley was shown – looking exactly like Phillip! Lily and Cane's reception was held at Indigo, decorated by Lily in Parisian style. Jill asked Cane to consider taking the Chancellor name, Kay agreed, saying she always thought of Phillip as her own, and Cane too. Amber caught the bouquet and started pestering Daniel to marry her. Lily and Cane spent their honeymoon in a tropical paradise. Lily gave Cane a ticket to Australia as a wedding gift, but he didn’t want to use it, saying he was happy finally with her, he grew up poor, and there was nothing there he wanted to go back to. Then we saw his uncle Langley tending bar in Australia.

Nina returned to Genoa City to do a screenplay adaptation of Katherine's memoirs, and was skeptical of Cane's story and questioned him about it. Cane called "his uncle Langley" in Australia saying, "Phillip, your wife is going to find out you're still alive", but he told Cane not to worry, it would lead nowhere and blow over. Paul found out that Violet was in a hospital in Arizona at the time of the baby switch, so that part of Cane's story was a lie, but Jill and Kay refuse to believe that Cane not genuine. Nina was anxious to identify her son's father to find out if he had the gene to confirm or rule out his possible diagnosis of Huntington's disease. When she called the lab to get the remains from the prior exhumation re-examined, she was told they had no remains, nor any record of it at all in their files. So she had the body exhumed again, opened the coffin and found it empty. Further tests showed there had never been a body in that coffin, just the bags of sand to give it weight. Meanwhile Cane was frantically trying to get hold of "Langley. Jill reluctantly requested another DNA test, and Cane was seen pulling a vial of blood from a freezer of dry ice marked “Langley”. The blood test was done at the Chancellor estate, but Cane distracted everyone while he substituted the blood vials. The results came in, and all but Nina were thrilled that Cane proved to be Jill’s son. Then Paul delivered more news to Nina; tests showed the blood had been frozen, so Nina confronted Cane asking where he got the blood to pass the test. Cane admitted to Nina that he was a fraud in front of Kay, Jill, Murphy, Chloe, Neil and Lily, saying it was not for the money, he never wanted to hurt anyone, only meant to heal them, and they became family to him. When asked how Cane could do this to the people who gave him nothing but love, Jill’s son Phillip emerged say that he did it, it was his doing. All were aghast to see Phillip again, still alive! Katherine had another mini-stroke and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Murphy, Jill and Nina were with her when Phillip arrived and assured everyone he was very much alive, explaining that at 19 he found himself overwhelmed with responsibilities as a young executive at Chancellor and a new father, an alcoholic in depression attempted suicide by crashing his sports car. When he awoke still alive in the hospital, he managed to pay off a doctor and a policeman to aid in faking his death, then escaped to Australia and began a new life as Langley. Five years ago he met Cane who came to work for Phillip as a bartender in Phillip’s bar, and they became friends. Cane had grown up alone without a family and helped Phillip realize what he had must have put everyone through with his death. So they concocted the plan to give Jill and Kay a new son in Cane, making them all happy. He told Nina that he justified leaving her and their son because they would both be better off without him. Meanwhile back at the Chancellor Estate, Lily was crushed that Cane had lied to her for years, Neil told him to stay away from Lily, and Billy arrived in time to punch him out. Cane went home then left again after Devon arrived for Lily's things and her dog Humphrey, to check on Kay at the hospital. Then Phillip dropped the bomb on Nina, telling her that another reason he was so desperate to die or to leave was that he was, and is, gay!

Cane sold the bar to Mackenzie and decided to leave town. Thinking she was pregnant and he needed to know, Lily asked Cane to stop by and see her. Hearing Cane say how sorry he was that he messed up her life, was leaving town, and luckily she was not pregnant, Lily decided not to tell him. He then went over to the Chancellor Mansion to say goodbye and apologize to Kay and Jill. Phillip tried to get them to stop Cane from leaving, reminding them didn't they love him just a few days ago? But Cane slipped out while they were welcoming Nina's son Phillip IV who arrived unexpectedly. Lily started experiencing pain and Devon rushed her to the hospital. Olivia diagnosed her as not pregnant, but instead a mass was found on her ovary which was cancerous. Lily asked for Cane, Devon and Liv thought it would help, but Neil forbade it. Mackenzie tracked down Cane, persuaded him not to leave town, and stashed him in Murphy's trailer home that Billy had just bought as a rendezvous for them. Lily slipped out of the hospital convinced that harvesting her eggs for future children was more important than her scheduled surgery, but Cane was able to convince Lily to return. After surgery, Olivia delivered the news that they had to do a hysterectomy, but that luckily some eggs were saved. It wasn't long before Lily and Cane reconciled and she moved back to their home with him. Cane shared his only remaining secret with Lily, that the “cattle mafia” in Australia stole his friend’s herd one by one, bankrupting him. Cane became a marked man when he identified the rustlers to the authorities, which was why he had to leave Australia. Lily decided to take control of her cancer head-on getting Cane to shave her head rather than lose it to the chemo she began taking. Lily felt great after her first treatment, then crashed feeling sick and having hot flashes.

One day Lily’s best friend, Colleen went out to the Abbott cabin, arriving to find a woman unknown to her tied to a chair, and let her loose. It was Patty Williams who had been held there by Gloria and Jeff, awaiting the arrival of Victor and Jack for the ransom they paid. Patty turned on Colleen and kidnapped her at gunpoint, taking her to Camp Cheveyo, and tying her to a tree. After Patty used Colleen's phone to call Jack, and Colleen hollered "cow.." (because the camp slogan was “Cowabunga”, which she and Jack had both attended as kids) before she was disconnected. Jack, JT, and Paul searched for her, convincing even Victoria that Victor had set this all in motion by bringing Patty back to Genoa City to get back at Jack. Meanwhile Patty was bitten by a spider and had a bad reaction, Colleen got loose, and held the gun on Patty, unsure what to do as Patty begged her for help. When Colleen tried to help her, Patty grabbed the gun away, but Colleen was able to convince her that she would get help and return, and left in a canoe. She fell out, and hit her head on the bottom of the boat when she surfaced, sending her sinking again. Colleen was clearly drowning in the same lake as her father, with an eerie sequence of visions she was visited by the people who loved her, begging her to fight and come back to them, even visiting Lily giving her final advice that she would beat the cancer and live to have children. Colleen saw her dead father and grandfather, ready to take her to the beyond. Jack realized where Colleen was, raced to the camp, and pulled her out of the lake. But as he tried to administer CPR, Patty was there holding the gun on him. Victor arrived and tried to convince Patty to drop the gun and let Jack save Colleen. Patty shot Victor 3 times instead and ran into the woods with Paul following, and JT stayed to help Victor. Paul caught up with Patty and talked her into turning herself in, promising he would not abandon her, and she was taken to a psychiatric hospital. Victor was in critical condition, about to undergo surgery to remove a bullet from his heart. Colleen’s EEG showed only faint brain activity and was confirmed brain dead. Billy arranged a celebration of Colleen’s life instead of a funeral, with red balloons, and all wearing bright colors. In addition to the Abbotts, among those attending were Kevin & Jana, Phyllis and Noah representing the Newman’s, JT, Mac, Kay & Murphy, and Daniel who presented Traci with a portrait of Colleen that he drew. “Aunt” Mamie and Dina sent flowers, Adrian and Brad’s mother both unable to attend, phoned Traci. Victoria arrived and read a letter from Victor full of thanks and gratefulness. Traci, Jack, Ashley, Abby, Neil, Kay, Kevin, and JT gave eulogies about what they remembered most about her. Neil broadcasted his eulogy to Lily who was restricted to home due to her low immunity level. At the end all released red balloons. Including Lily at home, to “An Angel’s Lullaby” sang by Beth Maitland, who plays Traci. Colleen was buried next to her father Brad, her kidneys donated to a 16 year old girl and corneas to a father who had never seen his children.

Several chemo treatments later and careful as they were, Lily got an infection and was hospitalized. At her worst, Jill was there for Cane whom she still considers a son, and Neil realized how much Cane really loved her. Then as she began to recover they decided to start looking for a surrogate rather than wait until Lily would be strong enough to carry their child. Billy was not happy when Mackenzie volunteered and began looking into the legal ramifications with Michael Baldwin. Mac got a physical, and told Cane she was ready no matter what Billy does not want her to do. Mac and Billy broke up, and Mac became pregnant with Cane and Lily's child.

In December 2009, Malcolm showed up out of the blue in Lily's hospital room as she was fighting another infection cause by her cancer treatments. He explained that he had been on photo shoots in foreign lands, but had received her letter telling him she had married Cane, was aware and heartbroken over Dru's death, and had met Olivia at Heathrow Airport and found out about Lily's cancer. Neil took him to task outside Lily's room for his not keeping in touch, especially with Lily. But they since decided to bury the past for Lily's sake, and Malcolm accepted the photographer position with Restless Style, intending to stay in Genoa City. The day Malcolm took Lily for a PET scan, Cane was arrested for being in the country illegally. Lily skipped the procedure and met him at the jail where Cane admitted that even though he was married to a citizen, deportation was inevitable since he used Phillip’s identity, masquerading as a US citizen. Cane was found guilty and ordered deported. Lily promised to go with him, but he reminded her about her cancer therapy and their babies on the way. So when Lily got disappointing results from the PET scan, she lied and told Cane the cancer was gone so he would go ahead without her. But when it was time for Cane to be deported, she broke down and told Cane the truth, so of course he escaped. But just as he was apprehended, Michael saved the day with the news that he had arranged for Cane to stay legally because of Lily’s condition. Lily’s Aunt Olivia finally arrived from Haiti where she was working with Doctors Without Borders and began helping Lily decide on her options to fight the cancer. Shocked to see Malcolm the first time in years, it was realized that Malcolm had not met Liv at Heathrow like he claimed. Neil and Malcolm became at odds again as Neil pressured him for more information, and as each tried to be a doting father to Lily.

A sonogram confirmed that the twins Mac was carrying were boy and girl. Olivia told Lily, Cane, and Mac about a clinical trial that would take amniotic fluid from the babies to give Lily more immunity to fight off the cancer, but both Lily and Mac turned it down fearing it may harm the babies. Instead Lily left for France with Olivia to try another experimental procedure. Cane could not go with her as he would not be allowed back if he left the country. Cane then decided to sue Mac for the right to take the placenta fluid against their wishes. A copy of Lily’s will arrived in the mail shortly after she left where she specified that in the event of Lily's death, she wanted Cane and Mac to have joint custody of the twins. Mac was not sure how to handle the news since she had been trying to distance herself from the babies she carried so as not to get too attached to them, and not so hard to give them up. After Lily’s procedure failed, she returned and took part in the hearing, but when Cane saw her emotions and frailty on the witness stand, he dropped the lawsuit. The next day, Mac went into early labor, the twins Charlie and Matilda (Matty), were born two months premature, and their amniotic fluid was saved for Lily’s treatment. Lily and the twins stayed in the hospital all growing stronger, as she got her treatments. Meanwhile Mac shared with J.T. her guilty regrets and missing the babies.

Lily was released from the hospital and welcomed home by the family who had unpacked all the baby gifts, and had their house all ready for them when they could come home. Cane and Lily visited the babies often, as deportation loomed closer for Cane once she got well. But Sofia saved the day by convincing Tucker to approve Cane as liaison with their corporate partner where Cane grew up in Canberra, Australia. Because Cane was uniquely qualified he obtained an eight month work visa. Cane and Lily eventually brought the twins home, and Lily’s health continued to improve. Lily asked Mac to be Godmother to the twins. When she turned her down explaining that she was getting too attached to them, Lily asked Traci, and she accepted in memory of Colleen. Devon felt honored to be the twin’s Godfather.

Just before the twin’s Christening, Immigration demanded that Cane appear for deportation because Lily had gotten well. But the job with Tucker saved him from deportation, and Cane, Lily, Neil, and Michael arrived in time for the Christening. Later at the reception, Phillip returned from Australia and warned Cane that he was still in danger there, and he dared not go back. Cane and Sofia flew to Australia to meet with the executives of the bio-fuel company, but they stayed on the plane so no one would know Cane was there. Meanwhile at home, Lily received a box of steaks from Australia. Thinking they were from Cane, Neil fired up the grill for Lily, Malcolm, and himself. When Cane arrived home they were fine, but he threw out the steaks knowing they came from his enemies. Then Cane received a DVD in the mail showing Lily being spied upon at their own front door. Cane eventually had to reveal the threat to Lily after she discovered the DVD.

In mid-October 2010, Cane, Lily, and the twins went to the lake in an attempt to escape Blake Joseph, the Australian who was watching them. Cane decided they should return to Genoa City when a policeman warned them that a tornado was headed their way. As Cane took their things to the car, he was jumped by Blake. They fought as the storm got worse, Cane overpowered Blake, and dragged him into a root cellar. Blake threatened Cane that if he turned him in to the police, Blake would expose the fact that Cane had been one of the cattle rustlers, but had turned on the gang to save himself. Blake offered to leave Cane and his family alone for five million dollars, which he was sure that Katherine and Jill could provide. Before leaving, Blake whacked Cane over the head with a pipe wrench.

J.T. received a call from a panicked Lily, who was hiding from a tornado under a table inside a cottage at the lake, telling him that Cane had disappeared. J.T. left Reed with Mac and drove up to the lake to help. J.T. left Reed with Mac and drove up to the lake to help. Cane made his way back to the cottage covered in blood and told Lily he never found the guy but had been hit by debris. Later, as Mac sang a lullaby to Reed, the tornado caught J.T. on the road and caused him to crash into a power pole. The pole and power lines fell on the car as J.T. climbed out into the rain, electrocuting him. Cane and Lily discovered J.T. unconscious in his wrecked car on the drive home. With no cell phone service, Lily went to a gas station they had just passed to call an ambulance. Cane removed the power lines from the car with a tree branch and pulled J.T. out, finding no heartbeat. J.T. had a “walking into the light” experience, but Cane brought him back with artificial resuscitation, and J.T. awoke gasping for breath. Later at the hospital, Cane checked out fine and was uncomfortable when Lily called him a hero. J.T. recovered and his burns began to heal after several days in intensive care, but he had extensive heart damage due to the electrical current which would keep him from doing anything strenuous or stressful.

Needing money to pay off Blake Joseph, one of the cattle rustlers who had been after Cane in Australia, Cane checked the Internet for how to take on a new identity. Cane located the name of a dead person named James Collier and ordered a copy of his birth certificate. Cane presented Sofia with a resume for James Collier and convinced her to hire him sight unseen, intending to do Collier’s work himself. Cane opened an account in the James Collier name, arranged direct deposit of his pay check, and gave Blake the information so he could withdraw the funds as payment of the blackmail. Lily walked in on them making the deal, but Blake told her he was an old friend from Australia, there to tell Cane that his problems were over and he was free of the rustlers. Tucker became suspicious of Collier, and requested Cane deliver some files to Collier to present a report on them, along with a face-to-face meeting with Tucker, due the following day. Cane stayed up all night working on the report. As Cane was making excuses for Collier’s absence to Tucker, Blake showed up claiming to be Collier. To make things easier, Blake told Tucker that he went by the name Blake rather than James. After they both had left, Tucker confided in Neil that he still did not trust Collier, and woe to Cane if Collier was not what he claimed to be.

Cane was soon overwhelmed by staying up all night to perform both his own work as well as Collier’s, which caused Sofia to become suspicious, and Lily became overtaxed handling the twins on her own. Then Cane was invited to dinner by Jill, the woman he thought of as his mother, to meet a new man in her life who was also Australian. Cane was shocked when the man turned out to be his own father, Colin Atkinson. When the two men were alone, Colin said that he would forgive Cane for ratting him out and sending him to prison, if Cane would come back and take his rightful place in the family organized crime business in Australia. Colin reminded Cane that he came from a wealthy family, not poor and parentless as he claimed, then showed him a photo of his younger sister Samantha. Cane reminded Colin that he had ruined her life and that she had been murdered because of him. Colin threatened Cane that he would use Cane’s secrets to persuade him to return, saying that Katherine Chancellor should know that Cane was embezzling money from Tucker, and Jill that he was Colin’s son. Cane refused and told him to stay away from Jill and his family. But like Blake had ingratiated himself to Lily, Colin got close to Jill and they became lovers that same evening.

The time came when Blake was assigned a project that Cane was not expert enough to handle, and Sofia and Neil were ready to fire Blake. But Sofia got Cane to admit that Blake was a fraud, and after hearing the story behind it, she agreed to help him get the blackmailers paid off to protect his family from harm. Colin put more pressure on Cane by asking Jill to marry him, and she accepted. Tucker discovered that Blake was a fraud. He called in Sofia, and when she tried to explain, he fired her and Cane.

Meanwhile Cane saw things coming to a head and confessed to Lily that Blake was sent from Australia to blackmail him about his past, and that he had been part of an organized crime family involved in illegal activities. Cane explained that when they caused the death of his sister Samantha it made him decide to turn on them, and then he met Phillip Chancellor who gave him the opportunity to escape to Genoa City and start over. Lily did not take it well and kicked Cane out. Sofia confessed her part in the hoax to Malcolm, then Neil, saying that she only wanted to help Cane who was a good man in a rough place. Both men were mad at Sofia, and left her there while they went to help Lily pick up the pieces.

Sofia went to Tucker again and got him to listen to her explanation. She reminded Tucker how he had saved her father’s job as an economics professor, and said that she felt that she had been “paying it forward” by helping Cane. Tucker relented and told Sofia that he expected her to cooperate with the police or face embezzlement charges with the rest of them. Sofia had it out with Blake at Jimmie’s, and he later tried to run her down with his motorcycle as she left. Colin ordered Blake to go home to Brisbane, but asked him for one last favor before he left; to keep Cane from interrupting his wedding to Jill. Before Blake left for the church, he got a text message from someone called “Rippley” tipping him that Colin was not to be trusted and was setting him up if he returned to Australia.

Cane went home to tell Lily the truth about him and his father, but she was at the church waiting for him, ready to forgive him. So Cane wrote a note for Lily and made a video for the kids, just in case he never saw them again. As Jill and Colin said their vows, Cane walked up the steps of the church, followed by Blake. Lily walked out the front door and saw them fighting. Blake turned the gun on Lily to stop Cane, but Cane jumped Blake to protect his family. The gun went off shooting Cane in the chest, and Blake fell down the steps, breaking his neck and died as he landed. Lily slipped on the ice, and the twin’s carriage went careening down the steps, but Neil arrived in time to catch it and save the twins. Cane lay on the steps bleeding as Jill and Colin walked out of the church married. Lily and Jill cradled Cane’s body and begged him to hold on as Neil called 9-1-1. Colin looked dazed as he watched his son dying. Lily told Cane she forgave him and loved him, and Cane breathed his last breath telling Lily that he loved her. The paramedics arrived, but they could not revive Cane.

Malcolm and Sofia arrived at the church and took the babies home, and when they walked into the house, a gust of wind blew Cane’s note between the furniture and the wall. Neil took a sobbing Lily into the church to talk. Jill and Colin went home to the Chancellor estate covered in blood, and told Kay, Murphy, and Billy that Cane was dead. Billy went to console Lily, and promised her that he would write an article on Cane’s heroism. While Kay and Jill hugged and commiserated their loss, Colin went to the morgue to identify the body. He apologized to his son, saying that because of him, both his son and his daughter had been gunned down in the street. Colin promised Cane that his children would be spared from his destructive life. Lily arrived at the morgue to say her final goodbye to Cane.

Cane's funeral was held on his and Lily's beloved Valentine's Day. Phillip, Kay, and Jill made touching speeches, and mourners placed a rose on his coffin as they left. Lily kept seeing and talking with Cane at his funeral, then again at home where she made peace with him, making sure that he knew that she still loved him despite all the lies. While everyone else thought that Lily was going crazy, Traci understood and had a conversation with Lily about coping with the loss of someone you love.

Daniel confessed to Lily that Lucy Abbott was his daughter, but he swore he would never let them know. As much as Daniel felt a connection, he was sure that Lucy would be better off with Victoria and Billy. Lily confided in Daniel that Cane continued to haunt her, but had begun to creep her out rather than the peace she had originally found. Things had escalated from hearing her music box playing in the baby monitor, to seeing Cane outside the glass door where he drew a heart in the frost which was still there after he had disappeared. Daniel tried to reassure Lily, and kissed her as he left. Then Lily got a text accusing her of getting over her loss awfully fast to be kissing someone else. But when Daniel finally saw the phone later, the text was gone.

Increasingly concerned about her visions of her dead husband Cane, and after she began finding mementoes he seemed to be leaving for her, Lily consulted a psychiatrist and a psychic. Cane showed himself to Lily at his grave. He told her that he was not alive, but although he didn't understand it himself, he knew that he would be with Lily forever. Lily was able to touch and feel Cane, but he fled when he heard Colin and Jill approach. Lily began going to the cemetery more often to see Cane. Later when Cane showed up at Lily's apartment, Colin could not see him, yet Lily and the twins could. Cane told Lily, that he couldn't explain it.

The next day, Colin met Cane in the park calling Cane "Caleb", who was Cane's evil twin, and Colin admitted that he had planned the gunning down of Cane on the church steps. They discussed their plan to convince everyone that Lily was insane, so that they could return to Australia with the twins. The next time Cane and Lily met, Cane got amorous with Lily, she pushed him away. Lily decided she needed to start living in reality to be there for her kids, and checked herself into Fairview sanitarium.

Meanwhile "Caleb" met with his mother, Genevieve, who reminded him that she was in charge, as she recalled witnessing Caleb shoot at Cane years ago, but Samantha had been killed instead. Genevieve revealed that Caleb, after drugging Cane, had taken his place and showed up at the church. But Colin had arranged for Cane to be gunned down, not realizing that Caleb was the one who was killed on the church steps. Genevieve had found Cane, and he let everyone believe that Cane was dead, and began working with Genevieve plotting to have Colin be arrested for kidnapping the twins to finally get some justice for Samantha.

After bidding Jill a passionate farewell telling her he was leaving town on business, Colin managed to convince Neil to allow him and Jill to take the twins for the night, but instead he took them to the McMillan estate where a plane was to pick up him, "Caleb", and the twins to leave for Australia. Jill got suspicious and followed him to the estate. Meanwhile Neil found the note that Cane had left for Lily the night of his "death" which admitted that Colin was his father and that he had a twin named Caleb. Neil called Jill and explained, and she told him where she was and that Colin had the twins on an airstrip. Stalling for time while Neil called the police, Jill confronted Colin. Cane walked up, and Jill pretended to faint at the sight of him. Jill listened to them talk of their plan, then accused Colin of using her, before she ran off into the woods.

Colin was lured into the mansion by music that he recognized, where he found Samantha's urn on the mantel and a chalk outline on the floor covered in photos of her. Colin called out, and Genevieve appeared telling him that she was there for revenge and justice. She shoved him during their argument, and Colin fell over the balcony. Jill arrived and tried to rescue Colin who was holding on to the edge by his hands. As Genevieve told Jill that she was Colin's wife, Colin lost his grip and fell. The police and an ambulance arrived, and they took Colin to the hospital where he recovered from his injuries.

Lily arrived with Daniel, and Neil held her back as Cane jumped the pilot before he could take off with the twins in the plane. The pilot dropped his cigarette which ignited leaking gasoline, but Cane subdued the pilot and drove the stroller into the woods just in time. Cane convinced Lily that he was her husband with things that only he would know. Finally Lily believed him, but feeling betrayed she refused to forgive him. Colin was quickly freed when he was given diplomatic immunity, but both he and Cane were continually rebuffed by Jill, Katherine, and Lily as they told him to get out of their lives. Daniel began spending more and more time with Lily and appeared to be falling in love with her again. Lily later had a restraining order served against Colin, and after repeated efforts by Cane to get Lily to forgive him, Lily told Cane that she was filing for divorce.

At the family birthday party for Lily, she noticed that Malcolm and Sofia appeared not be getting along. Sofia admitted that they were separated, and Neil confirmed that he might be the father of her baby. Lily, Daniel, and Devon were shocked considering how Lily herself was conceived.

Daniel began spending more and more time with Lily and began to fall in love with her again. Lily decided to make love to Daniel as his birthday gift, but Lily kept thinking of Cane instead during it, and called it off. But the next night she showed up at Daniel's door, and they made love. But just as Daniel was thinking they were a couple again, Cane gave Lily the signed divorce papers and announced that he was returning to Australia. Lily gave in and stopped him from leaving, and began allowing Cane supervised visitation of their twins.

Cane began secretly working with the police to get evidence to put his mob boss father, Colin, back in prison. The first call on the FBI wiretap of Colin's phone, overheard him putting a hit on Cane's mother Genevieve and Gloria Bardwell. Colin arranged for the women to be at Genevieve's mansion later in the day, but they were not there when Lily arrived. Cane rescued Lily just as the mansion exploded. Ronan and Chance met them outside. Chance had been reassigned by the state department to work with Ronan on the case due to Colin's drug trade in the Middle East. Cane admitted to Lily that he had been working with them too. Meanwhile Jillcoaxed Colin to bed and handcuffed him, then called the police. Ronan arrived at Colin's suite and arrested. Genevieve turned over Colin's books, and Colin was deported. Lily called Cane her hero, and they reunited.

But it wasn't long before Cane had to say goodbye to Lily as he left for an unfriendly foreign country, and let her know that this secret was not about him but to protect someone he was trying to help. Lily agreed to trust and wait for him, but was worried about his safety. Cane returned in time for Devon, Lily, and Cane with the twins to spend Thanksgiving at Neil's, where Neil and Sofia announced their engagement.

After running into Genevieve grieving on her dead daughter Samantha's birthday, Cane and Lily brought the twins over and reconciled with Genevieve. As Cane and Lily stood up for Neil and Sofia at their wedding, they both wistfully reflected back to their own wedding.

Cane enjoyed Christmas Eve with Lily and the kids. Lily invited him to spend the night on the couch to be there in the morning for the twins' Christmas. They went out together to Gloworm on New Year's Eve, but decided that the party and meal was too fancy for them, and left for home to celebrate there instead.

Lily started working as a freelance photographer for Restless Style, shooting a day in the life of a model shot from the model's perspective.

It wasn't long before Cane and Lily decided to remarry, and they joyfully gathered their family in the park to announce the wedding date would be Valentines Day -- everyone, but Genevieve, whom Cane had disowned after she screwed Jack over when she bought Beauty of Nature out from under him. Malcolm sent flowers, and Devon and Neil gave their blessings. Traci gave Lily Colleen's bracelet, and Olivia gave her Dru's comb which Lily had worn in her hair at their first wedding. But the day before their small wedding, Katherine surprised them by moving the wedding to a friend's villa in Provence, France, and flying friends and family there in her private jet. Katherine stayed home for Delia's birthday party. The wedding was held on the beautiful grounds of the villa with Abby as maid of honor, Devon as best man, and Neil giving away the bride. Cane sweetly told Jill that she was the mother of the groom, the only mother he had ever truly loved. The vows were spoken informally about second chances, and they exchanged both their old and new rings. Afterward, a reception was held in the garden, while Genevieve tearfully watched from afar, and was only spotted by Jill, who didn’t tell anyone. On their return, Jill and Ashley asked Cane to become Jill's assistant director of marketing at Jabot, and Cane accepted.

On June 27, 2012, a party was held by Lily and Cane at the athletic club to celebrate the second birthday of the Ashby twins. Despite their differences, the whole family showed up with presents, including Neil, Sofia, Devon, Genevieve, and Harmony. Ana showed up as a surprise, and taking him aside, suggested that Devon forgive his mother for not being perfect just as she had. Devon decided she was right, and they all enjoyed the party and Ana's visit. A mysterious gift of an antique doll and car was opened which turned out to have been the favorite toys of Cane and his deceased sister Samantha. Cane and Genevieve were not pleased, thinking that they had apparently come from Colin. But after Cane received email on his cell referring to Claude and Shirl, the secret names he and Samantha called each other as children which Colin nor anyone else knew about, the mystery deepened. After several other scares, Lily finally confided in Ronan about the stalking, being afraid for their kids.

After gaining Adam's share support and teaming up with Tucker, Jack took the opportunity for a hostile takeover of Newman Enterprises. He offered Neil Winters the job of CEO of Jabot. After accepting, Neil made Lily head of the Jabot marketing team, made Cane his right hand man, and hired Devon as a marketing intern. Neil then asked Leslie to become Jabot's chief legal advisor. She initially turned down the position due to their prior romantic relationship, but after assuring each other that it would be strictly business, Leslie accepted the position. Devon and Lily began promoting their romantic relationship again to help loosen Neil up. Tyler Michaelson, a successful graphic designer who wanted a job at Jabot, made a pitch to Neil and Jack, and Tyler was hired to work for Cane in marketing. But Cane became jealous because Tyler kept flirting with Lily. After Jack had a meltdown and fired Phyllis, Neil, and Kyle, Cane was made acting CEO. His first task was to fire Tyler, but Lily later convinced Cane to give Tyler another shot. Cane also let Neil know that as CEO of Jabot, he was putting Neil in charge without the title for the sake of Jabot. Neil had no more than taken up the reigns of Jabot again when Jack realized that his heart was with Jabot, not Newman, and left Newman in Adam's hands. When putting together his team to run Jabot, Jack hired Billy and Kyle, and Neil was made head of the new fashion division with Cane and Lily under him.

Cane discovered Chelsea and Chloe's new fashion designs and began spending a lot of time with Chelsea encouraging her to become a local collaborator for the new Jabot fashion division. After Tyler and Lily became trapped in an elevator together, then marooned in a dead car in a snowstorm, he got very jealous and accused Lily of fooling around on him. The next time Tyler came on to Lily, she set him straight that they were merely co-workers, and to stop. Cane and Lily finally agreed for the sake of their marriage that he would cut his ties with Chelsea, and Lily hers with Tyler. But later while sharing his mixed feelings for his father with Lily, Tyler kissed her. Lily got into it, then broke it off, excusing him because he was drunk. Lily told Tyler that it was never to happen again. Tyler admitted he cared for Lily, and that she was the only person he could trust.

Lily came up with a Jabot Face of Fashion marketing campaign called "Dare to be Different" for Chelsea's designs using unknown models, and it was approved with Lily working with Tyler. Tyler suggested Summer as their model. Chelsea forgave Summer for the death of her unborn child, saying that they were both getting a second chance. Weeks later Tyler told Lily he had been thinking about her too much and resigned his job at Jabot. Lily told him it was too late to replace him and the campaign to succeed, so Lily moved to marketing so that Tyler could continue the project, and Devon took over the campaign. When Lily arrived home drunk to a surprise birthday party on the arm of Tyler, everyone became suspicious of their relationship. Devon clashed with Tyler who insisted that none of Lily's ideas be changed. Tyler went to Neil and gave him attitude about Devon's handling of his campaign, so Neil fired Tyler. But later Tyler made a deal with Devon to return to work for him if Noah Newman were to be promoted to photographer for Jabot Fashion, to follow in the footsteps of Malcolm Winters.

Cane interviewed for a new assistant, and after several duds, with Lily's approval, he hired Hilary Curtis, a bright young woman who was well-informed about Chancellor, Cane, and Lily. But as Hilary made herself more and more indispensible to Cane, Lily realized that she was after her man. When Cane refused to believe it, they staged a fight in front of Hilary, and after Lily left, Hilary kissed Cane. Cane was convinced, and Lily finally figured out that Hilary was actually Ann Turner who was after revenge against Lily's father Neil.

Cane played up to Hilary and invited her to his room at the athletic club. Hilary spiked his drink, and staged a scene making it appear that she and Cane had just had sex together. But Cane faked being passed out, and he recorded everything, including Mason helping Hilary by taking the photo and admitting he had taken the prior ones. Later after the photo hit the GCBuzz, Cane played the recording for Lily, and they told Neil. Neil refused to press charges, and tried to apologize to Hilary instead. But after Leslie gave Hilary the letters that Gus had written to Hilary's mother Rose, she backed down and apologized for coming after the Winters family. The rest of the family was shocked when Neil believed her and gave her a second chance at life and a job working as Jack Abbott's assistant.

Jobless and looking for a new direction for himself and Lily, Cane found an abandoned building and took Lily there to see if they could up with a plan for it. Instead, after celebrating being 100% cancer free after five years, Lily accepted a job as manager of the Genoa City Athletic Club, and Cane became business manager, once Devon became the new owner. Lily began planning a lot of changes to the club and had to be reined in by Devon, but the club had to be shut down during renovations. Their first big booking was to be the Delia Project's fundraiser, and Lily was resentful when Hilary came up with a fairytale theme. Lily tried to downplay it, but Nikki and Victoria Newman, who were in charge of the project, thought it was perfect.

Cane and Lily attended the Delia Project Valentine's Day benefit. When Lily unveiled the antique snow queen doll which was to be auctioned, the case was empty. But Lily spotted a stranger, Richard Womack, heading for the door with it under his coat. When she grabbed for the doll, it broke, and diamonds showered onto the floor. Womack pulled a gun, and held everyone hostage. Devon triggered a silent alarm, and Paul and the police arrived outside the locked ballroom. Womack made Lily pick up the diamonds from the floor and made Abby collect the cell phones, but Kevin kept his and called Paul so the police could hear what was going on.

Jack made Womack a deal to call his private jet if he would let the hostages go. Then Neil, Tyler, Devon, and Cane staged an argument to get the drop on Womack. Tyler knocked out Womack's accomplice with a champagne bottle, whose gun flew across the floor. Paul shut off the ballroom lights just as they scrambled for the gun, but Colin had caught it under his foot. Paul bargained with Womack to let Billy and Victoria go, and the lights would be turned on. Afterward, when Jack's plane was ready, Womack let everyone go but Lily. Cane begged to replace Lily, Lily hit Womack's arm, the gun went off, and Cane was shot. Colin jumped out from where he had been hiding, his gun on Womack, while Lily and Cane escaped. Womack was killed as he and Colin struggled over the gun. Lily thanked Colin for saving them, said they were even now for his kidnapping the twins, but that she would still never trust him, and Cane reluctantly agreed.

Lily came up with an idea to boost the athletic club's post-Womack slump by suggesting to Jack that Jabot premiere Chelsea's new line there with a fashion show. Jack thought it was a great idea and included partnering with Forrester Creations, naming Neil and Hilary liaisons and sending them to Los Angeles, to which Lily objected strenuously. The fashion show was held using real women of Genoa City as models, Lily, Hilary, and Abby alongside Esmerelda the featured model for the line. Lily insisted on bickering with Hilary throughout. When Chelsea arrived, she and Chloe ended up in a cat fight, pushing and shoving each other, and were caught by Rick and Caroline Forrester. When the Forresters got her alone, they offered Chelsea a design job under a separate label. Chloe heard her accept, saying that it would be no problem cutting out her current partner. To get back at Chelsea, Chloe cut up the showstopper finale dress that Esmerelda was to wear. Chelsea somehow salvaged it and got it to work, and the fashion show was a hit. Afterward, Lily began getting more bookings for the ballroom.

Months later, joining Neil, Lily and Cane in the GCAC dining room, Devon announced that Neil was sleeping with Hilary. All were shocked. Hilary joined them, and Lily tore into her. Hilary left, Neil made his choice, and followed her. Neil later told Devon and Lily that he thought he was in love with Hilary, and hoped that they would support his decision. Lily suggested Devon pay Hilary off with a million dollars, but Devon reminded her that they had already tried that, and she had refused. Hearing that Devon was now free, Lily suggested Devon seduce Hilary, then dump her, but Devon refused. They were elated to hear that Hilary was moving out of the GCAC, but shocked when Neil showed up, telling them she was moving in with him.

Lily enjoyed a scavenger hunt birthday from Cane which ended with a promised future trip to Paris. And their romantic dinner was interrupted when Charlie got a rash that was diagnosed as poison ivy.

At the family father's day celebration, Lily tried to shame Neil into dumping Hilary by telling him that his son Moses would be going to kindergarten this year, and other people would tease him because his father was living in sin with a younger woman. Neil decided Lily was right, and asked Hilary to marry him instead. Hilary accepted, and Lily was appalled when she found out. Neil and Hilary were married in Chancellor park, and only Devon showed up to be his best man. Lily and Cane took the opportunity to take their trip to Paris. Having lost her phone at the Chancellor estate while saying goodbye, Lily returned to find a thief holding Jill's multi-million dollar necklace. She clobbered him with a vase, he dropped the necklace and fled.

Marriage did not keep Lily from continually snarking at Hilary, in fact she even pushed Hilary into the GCAG pool. Neil shamed Lily in front of her kids and told her to grow up and get over it. Devon took Hilary to a room, told her to take a relaxing bath while housekeeping took care of her clothes. Devon bought her some clothes when Lily made Hilary's clothes "disappear". Cane warned Lily that she needed to stop, or they were going to have some serious problems between them.

But later Cane and Hilary found Neil unconscious after being electrocuted in the old fixer-upper house he had bought for her. As the family waited in the E.R., Lily attacked Hilary, saying it was all her fault, that she had manipulated Neil into marrying her, tricked him into buying house, and was hurting him just as Lily knew she would. Cane broke them apart, trying to get Lily to stop her tirade. Hilary told Lily she had no idea Neil had bought a house. Cane admitted that he had known about the house, and felt guilty that he had been there helping Neil with the electrical problem just prior to the accident. Dr. Barton reported that Neil had suffered severe electrical shock with superficial burns, but found no severe internal injury. Neil finally regained consciousness and requested only Hilary, further infuriating Lily. Hilary was shocked when Neil opened his eyes and discovered that he could not see. Neil was diagnosed with cortical visual impairment, and warned that it could be permanent.

Neil refused the help of a therapist for the blind at the hospital, and went home, sure that it was only temporary. He became enraged when everyone tried to baby him, and that Lily had rearranged the furniture in an effort to help him avoid it. Sending Lily and Devon away, he was comforted by Hilary. It finally took a visit from Neil's brother Malcolm to get Neil to stop pushing everyone away and admit that he was afraid that he would never see again. Lily later made up with Hilary, telling her that she was glad that Hilary was there for Neil.

As Colin and Jill made plans to buy back Chancellor from Victor, Lily could see that Cane wanted to leave his job at the club and join them. She told Cane to follow his heart. But once the deal was struck, and they had Chancellor, Lily began pressuring Cane that he had to be keeping something from her as he took second in command, allowing Jill to become CEO.

On Valentines Day, Lily, Cane, Jill, Colin, and Devon were flying to Chicago on a private jet provided by a real estate mogul who wanted Chancellor to move to Chicago. Devon turned it into a family trip by inviting Neil and Hilary to come along. During the flight Neil got up and poured himself a drink, turned to see astonished eyes on him, and said, "Yes I know it is alcohol," proceeded to read the bottle to them, and downed it. "Yes, I can see. I can see everything," as he glared at Devon and Hilary. Neil told everyone that the first thing he had seen was his cheating wife in bed with his son Devon, that Cane and Colin had known about their affair, and that Colin had been blackmailing Devon over it. Lily was livid with Cane and slapped Devon. Moments later, the jet hit turbulence and crashed. Cane came-to among the ruins of the jet, and after a lot of searching, located Lily alive and well in the snow. Everyone had minor cuts and bruises, except the pilot had been killed, and Hilary was pinned under some wreckage. She experienced cardiac arrest, but Neil brought her back with CPR. With no cell signal, they waited to be found, Colin built a fire, sent up flares, and found blankets in the jet to keep them warm. By the next morning with Hilary's leg injury making her weaker, Devon was chosen to hike for help. But before he could leave, Neil was discovered missing, and the map was gone as well. Cane pleaded with Lily to forgive him. Lily felt that her life was ruined, they would either die or it would never be the same, saying, "You broke us." Though Devon said that everything was his fault, Lily responded that she would never forgive him or Cane. Not long afterward, a rescue helicopter sent by Neil hovered above.

Lily insisted Cane move out, but Jill was able to convince her that none of what happened had been Cane's fault, and love can conquer anything. Lily forgave Cane. Lily stopped by the hospital and threatened Hilary to get the hell out of town or else.

Cane and Lauren began spending a lot of time together as Cane helped her deal with Michael's prostate cancer, since he had experience dealing with Lily's. Immediately after Neil and Hilary divorced, Hilary and Devon announced that they were getting married. Lily and Neil were livid. Lily reacted by berating Lauren for poaching on Cane, sending both off into the night affronted. Later, Lily tricked Lauren into admitting that she and Cane had kissed, as Lauren apologized Cane intervened, explaining that they had gotten carried away with their mutual experience dealing with a spouse with cancer. Lily refused to believe that it was innocent, and she made a scene in public. Lily found Michael, slapped him and berated him for dragging her family into his situation, trying to ruin her marriage. He said he was trying to make Lauren happy. Lily said, "At my expense? How dare you complain about cancer to me who survived it." Lily went to the bar and hit on Avery's ex-husband Joe, but when he responded she thanked him for making her feel desirable, and went home to her kids. But the next day, Neil discovered Lily drunk in the bar flirting and commiserating again with Joe about people they loved who let them down.

Cane brought Lily lilies trying to make up with the only woman in his life. Lily called him a liar, as she watched the security footage showing Lauren going to Cane's room at midnight. Lily fought with Cane who claimed that it was innocent pointing out that she didn’t see what happened inside. Lily walked off in a snit. Joe followed her to her room, she kissed him and jumped up on him, and they had sex. Lily later admitted to Avery that she had slept with Avery's ex-husband Joe, and felt like a hypocrite. Feeling guilty, with Cane's next attempt, Lily allowed him to make up with her, but their lovemaking was a failure. Upon seeing Devon and Hilary again, her guilt made her forgive them.

When Cane surprised Lily with a trip to Tahiti, she admitted that she had been unfaithful with Joe. Lily begged Cane to forgive her, but Cane refused, pointing out how she had made him feel guilty for a kiss when he had begged for forgiveness. Cane announced that they were done, that Lily had to be the one to move out, and he would fight for custody of the twins, although he later changed his mind and agreed to seek joint custody.

On the day of Hilary and Devon's wedding, Lily was surprisingly supportive, even hugging Hilary because she made Devon so happy. Following their wedding, Lily again begged Cane to forgive her, reminding him of all the things he had done that she had forgiven him for. Cane admitted that he had broken Lily's heart over and over by protecting her, that she had been his priority. Where her having sex with Joe was selfish. But they did reunite.

Cane was not pleased when he returned from a trip to find that "Uncle Joe" had taken their son Charley to a ballgame while Lily handled a crisis at the athletic club. Cane let Joe know in no uncertain terms that he was not welcome to step in to help Lily in his absence, and accused him of trying to undermine their marriage again.

When a ransom was asked for Hilary, Dylan made the drop, hid, and tackled the person in black who picked it up. They fought, but the person escaped with the money. After Lily found the ransom money in Cane's duffle bag in their closet, Cane was arrested. Cane protested claiming he had been framed. After Lauren discovered that Cane had made a deal with a notoriously bad supplier, costing Fenmore's millions, repaying Fenmore's appeared to be the motive. Lily bailed Cane out, but Cane was upset with Devon for not believing that he was innocent, after he had taken a leave of absence from his job to help him find his wife. Joe conveniently showed up to comfort Lily over Cane being arrested. Cane was released. Cane suffered a broken elbow fighting with Joe.

The annual Delia Halloween costume party benefit was held at Top of the Tower, with Lily dressed as Cleopatra and Joe as the devil. A fire broke out on the floors just below them, cutting them off from the floor where her children were having their own party. They were rescued from the roof by helicopter and Lily was reunited with the twins who had been led out the front door. Lily became remorseful when she discovered that Cane was still trapped in the building after everyone else had gotten out. When he suddenly appeared at the hospital, she hugged him and offered forgiveness for everything, but Cane was not interested, and moved into the athletic club.

Lily slept with Joe again, but he was called away for a deal by Colin who claimed to be selling off part of Chancellor Industries. Meanwhile, Cane went up to Joe's room, and caught Lily in Joe's bed. Cane was disgusted with her. Joe came back early realizing that Cane had gone there to search his room. Cane confronted him with the hoodie he found in Joe's room safe, but he denied knowing anything about it. Although it checked out to contain Joe's DNA, it was inadmissible evidence by how it was obtained. Lily began to feel like a fool, being taken in by the man who was out to ruin her marriage. Later Joe witnessed Lily and Cane viciously arguing over the fact that Lily admitted to having feelings for Joe, and he followed Lily to the park. Joe offered to go with her to chop down a Christmas tree. On the way Lily's car stalled, and with no cell service they made their way to the Abbott cabin. When Lily avoided his advances, Joe realized that she was setting him up, and his temper flared. Cane and Devon showed up to rescue Lily with Paul in time to hear Joe confess to framing Cane, and Joe was arrested. Cane, left alone with Lily, admitted he still could not get past her trusting Joe over him. Lily waited alone in tears for the tow truck. Joe accepted a plea bargain to serve no less than six years in an out of state prison.

Cane agreed to come home for Christmas eve and morning with kids, staying in the guest room. Neil and the kids planted mistletoe, then got the Ashbys to kiss underneath it.

Months later, Jill and Colin threw themselves a small anniversary party, and they staged a fight to get Lily and Cane to reconcile. Lily and Cane made love in a hotel room, but they decided not to tell kids that they were any nearer to reconciliation to get their hopes up. But they did eventually reconcile.

In late 2016 Cane tore his Achilles tendon playing basketball with 6 year old son Charlie. Cane was so wrapped up in his job at Brash & Sassy that Lily had to make him have the surgery to repair it, and then he was popping pain pills to go right back to work. Lily was even more concerned when Cane's physical therapist, Jessie, turned out to be a voluptuous brunette who Cane could not stop smiling at and flirting with.

When a model didn't show up, Lily took her place. Jill and Billy were so impressed with the shoot, they signed Lily to a contract as brand ambassador for the Brash & Sassy men's line. Cane was proud but not pleased. Lily quit her job at the athletic club, but had second thoughts due to Cane's attitude about her modeling and the fact that Devon was having a hard time finding a replacement.

While Cane was in Asia working on a big deal for Brass & Sassy, Lily was stalked by a guy named Don. When he showed up in her hotel room, she was rescued by her old friend, and current Brass & Sassy photographer, Jordan Wilde.

In May, 2017, twins Charlie and Mattie morphed into teenagers, sophomores attending Walnut Grove Academy. Charlie was popular and confident, Mattie smart, shy and spectacled. Charlie got a summer job as a lifeguard at the Genoa City Athletic Club rooftop pool, and Mattie an internship at Hamilton-Winters Group.

In May, 2017, twins Charlie and Mattie morphed into teenagers, sophomores attending Walnut Grove Academy. Charlie was popular and confident, Mattie smart, shy and spectacled. Charlie got a summer job as a lifeguard at the Genoa City Athletic Club rooftop pool, and Mattie while taking an advanced placement college course in calculus worked an internship at Hamilton-Winters Group.

The Brash & Sassy team went to Los Angeles together for a commercial shoot starring Lily. Lily was in awe, spotting a huge billboard of her promoting Dare. Hilary pushed to premiere the commercial on the Hilary Hour. Juliet tried to get approval from the hockey league, but they went ahead, and it included a clip of Billy joking with hockey players about gambling. The league was furious. Victoria convinced them to stay with Brash & Sassy, but the commercial had to be killed, and she had to fire the person responsible. She fired Juliet, not Billy, promising her a glowing review. Lily was crushed, intending to use it to become an actress. Hilary convinced Juliet to sue Brash & Sassy for sexual harassment by Cane. Cane broke the news to Lily and claimed there was no truth to her allegations. Depositions were taken, including a bill for 3 bottles of sake and a security video from the hotel showing them staggering into a room, and Juliet coming out the next morning. It also came out that Cane botched the deal and Juliet intervened to save it, yet Victoria refused any settlement. But when Juliet turned up pregnant and confirmed to be Cane's, Victoria was forced to settle. Victoria fired Cane for lying and costing them the settlement money.

Lily was devastated by the news of Juliet's pregnancy. Cane begged and pleaded with her to forgive him, saying that he was drunk, and didn't even remember it. Because Cane had forgiven Lily for her affair with Joe, Lily tried very hard. They explained the impending half-sibling to the twins who were shocked and appalled. Neil and Devon refused to hire Cane. Jack Abbott was quite interested, but Victoria found out and stopped Jack, knowing Cane would spill all the Brash & Sassy secrets to Jabot. When Lily needed to pay the twins tuition, she discovered $25,000 missing, and Cane told her he had invested it. But Victoria and Billy told Lily the truth in front of Cane, how Cane had paid videographer Jesse to rig the hockey footage to ruin Billy's hockey deal, then paid $25,000 in blackmail to cover it up. Tired of his continual lies, Lily threw him out. Jill allowed Cane to move to the Chancellor Estate. Feeling guilty and no doubt hoping to win Lily back, Cane sold his car and paid the Walnut Grove tuition for the twins. Lily was surprised, but refused to comment.

Meanwhile, Lily's agent got her an audition for a commercial. Her photographer friend, Jordan, helped Lily shoot it, using her nemesis Hilary's studio, and she sent it in. But Lily didn't get the job. Jordan informed her that Hilary had gotten it instead. Cane got Lily to see a marriage counselor but in the end, with their baby as a constant reminder, she decided to divorce Cane. They told the twins together. They were upset, but understood. After being invited to dinner by the twins, and sharing a kiss with Lily, Jordan hoped he would have a chance with her, but Lily told him she needed some time for herself and her children.

The day before the divorce hearing, Billy moved back into the Chancellor Estate, finding Cane and Juliet living there. Cane offered a truce and let him stay since he had saved Mattie, Charlie and Reed from a fire, and been kicked out by Phyllis. They started drinking together, and Cane ended up banging on Lily’s door begging her not to go through with the divorce hearing. They found themselves in jail together that night. The next morning Cane was late for the divorce hearing, and he and Charlie both begged for Cane to be given another chance. Lily was about to ask for a postponement when Juliet barged in and let it slip that she had been the only one who would bail Cane out of jail. The hearing was put on hold after Juliet passed out, bleeding. She was taken to the hospital for an emergency c-section. Cane called her father who said he did not care. After the baby was born premature with complications, and Juliet died, her father said he still did not care. Cane realized that since Juliet’s mother was dead, they were all the baby had, and they named him Sam in honor of Cane’s deceased sister Samantha. Sam had a serious heart problem, his medication no longer working, he required cardiothoracic surgery. Both Cane and Lily donated blood, but it turned out that Lily’s antigens were just what Sam needed. Later, Mattie and Charlie donated too, and Mattie’s had the same antigen. This gesture and spending Christmas together as a family gave Lily second thoughts about going through with the divorce. Jill set up Lily and Cane by throwing a New Years Eve party that turned out they were the only guests. They danced, drank champagne, felt awkward, and almost kissed at midnight, which Lily turned into a hug and left. Jill warned Lily to face her feelings before she left town. They met again, talked and passionately kissed.

Because Brash & Sassy merged with Newman, Lily’s job was minimized and her salary cut, but she signed the new contract. Victoria sent Lily to Paris with Abby to expand Brash & Sassy to Europe, causing Cane concern that they would not get back together. So Cane followed to reunite in “their city of Paris”, and nearly missed her when she decided to return home earlier. Acknowledging that reuniting was complicated now by baby Sam, Lily declared he was innocent in all this, and deserved to be loved by his family. So Cane moved back in including Sam. The first time Lily was left alone she failed to calm him, but of all people, Hilary arrived and helped. Cane and Lily renewed their vows on Valentine’s Day, the anniversary date of both of their marriages. Devon discovered a recording of Juliet admitting to Hilary that she and Cane had sex. He gave it to Lily. Lily and Cane realized that Hilary had engineered the whole sexual harassment accusation. Lily called Hilary vicious and self-serving, and assured her that she would never have contact with Cane’s son Sam again. Victoria held an employee meeting which turned into a bitchfest led by Ashley, and others chimed in with how unfair Victoria had been including Lily whose time off was canceled for the meeting. Lily walked out, and later quit. Her sometimes-agent Barry got her a weeklong modeling job in New York City. Lily ran an idea by Devon to start her own modeling agency. Devon approved and made it part of Hamilton-Winters. Hamilton-Winters loft office was expanded to make a nook for Lily and she hired Devon’s girlfriend/singer Simone to model for her company.

Inexplicable to Lily, Devon and Hilary had a contract drawn up allowing Devon to father a child for Hilary. After Lily locked Hilary in her office causing her to miss the appointment for Devon’s sperm implant, Devon and Hilary decided to conceive the old fashioned way. They had a falling out again, leaving Devon hoping he hadn’t gotten her pregnant. But of course Hilary turned up pregnant. Some time later, Lily saw how much Devon still loved Hilary, and decided to accept her when she got pregnant and they reunited.

Hilary allowed Charlie and Shauna to use her place to have sex, Lily found out, stopped them, and Shawna ran away. Hilary called Lily a prude. Lily drove as Charlie and Hilary looked for Shawna, while Lily and Hilary argued. Lily ran a red light, and was hit broadside by another car. Lily and Hilary were taken away by ambulance. Lily had no serious injuries, but Hilary was in critical condition with Dr. West trying to save both Hilary and her baby. Dr. Nate took over despite Hilary refusing, calling him egotistical and rude. The baby didn’t make it, and Hilary had suffered a ruptured liver and aortic tear. Hilary thanked Nate for saving her life and told Mariah to do the show and inform the viewers of the accident. Tears welled in Mariah's eyes as she described Hilary on air to be incredibly warm, generous, and loyal. Nate told Devon to prepare himself, that Hilary had a disseminated vascular coagulation, which had resulted from blood loss and probably wouldn't make it. Devon, devastated, stifled tears as he watched Hilary sleep. Devon told Lily, and she and Hilary made amends. Devon proposed, gave Hilary a fabulous ring, and planned a wedding at the hospital. Phyllis threatened Devon to tell Hilary she was dying or Phyllis would. Devon refused, wanting her to die happy. Phyllis was her maid of honor, and Neil best man. Phyllis vowed to find Hilary the perfect dress. Charlie convinced Shawna to see Hilary and she asked forgiveness, but Hilary instead asked her to be a bridesmaid because she was like a daughter to her. Hilary got Phyllis to tell her the truth but not to tell Devon that she knew. Hilary and Devon were married. Later they cuddled in her hospital bed and spoke of future children and fights and making up. Hilary admitted that she knew she was dying, but she appreciated that he gave her a day of happiness. They reminisced about him making 7-layer bars and her being afraid of cows. Hilary made Devon promise to have a celebration where everyone would wear hats, and that he would find someone else to love and have children with. Then she died in his arms.

After Hilary’s funeral, a reception was held at Devon’s condo. Devon was thankful for her stubbornness, and how she never gave up on him, saying she was a passionate person, their baby being her latest passion. Jack spoke as her friend and sponsor of her show, Neil, then Shawna spoke, with Shawna calling her a fairy godmother. Phyliss read pages written by Hillary. Hilary told Shawna to be strong but not silent, saying she knew Devon would take care of her. Hilary told Mariah to believe in herself and upgrade her wardrobe, and to take the show to new heights, and how happy she was that Mariah had finally found someone. Hilary thanked Jack for teaching her to put love first. To all the singles, with an exe they still had a thing for, don’t let it get away, be headstrong like she was. Hilary wrote that Devon had given her a wonderful life, and tried to make everything perfect. How she would be furious if all he did was look back, to take some time, then launch himself into the biggest and best life possible, to always picture her at peace holding their baby in her arms.

Mark, the man recently seen with Hilary looking guilty, told Devon and Mariah that he'd been recruiting Hilary for a national morning talk show in New York. Mariah commented that it would have been Hilary's dream job. But she had given Mark a forever "no" because she'd be an idiot to walk away from the best job offer she'd ever had -- raising a child with Devon. Devon snapped at Nate, that he should have done more to save her, gotten a specialist. Neil said that Nate had given them more time to plan, which not many got.

Shauna attacked Lily, saying, “Don’t pretend you cared. Her death was your fault for running the red light.” Unaware what she had done, Lily was shocked with disbelief. Charlie verified that it was true. Devon spat that he would never forgive Lily. Cane admitted he had made Shawna keep the secret. Later Shauna tried to leave the condo, but Devon asked her to stay, and her parents were okay with her staying. Devon urged Lily to confess to the police or he would for her. Devon would not forgive Lily, in fact fired her, but Neil wouldn’t let him. Knowing that her confession could get her up to 20 years in prison, Lily confessed to Paul. While Devon was finding baby things sent by fans with gushing notes about how much they loved and admired Hilary, Cane bought 5 tickets to Australia and was preparing to run. Lily found out and put an end to it.

Devon was insistent on giving a statement at her trial to condemn Lily to make her pay for the death of Hilary and their baby. Neil, Abby and Nate tried to talk him out of it, reminding him that Lily’s children would suffer. Devon gave his statement, asking for the maximum penalty, reminding them that Lily always hated Hilary, and had plotted before to get her out of his life. At sentencing, Devon recanted his statement and asked for lenience, Shawna asked as well. Lily was sentenced to two years with her driver’s license suspended, a fifty thousand dollar fine, and twelve months in Walworth state prison. Lily went to prison, and spent her first days sobbing constantly. Mattie was arrested for protesting Lily’s incarceration by chaining herself to the prison gate. The family seemed to be falling apart without Lily. Then Lily was targeted by other inmates for coming to the defense of Mikayla whom they were picking on. Lily was put in isolation for her protection, then transferred to Lakewood Correctional Center which was four hours away. Neil moved to Lakewood to assure Lily that family would be nearby. Devon bought him house there and arranged tele-commuting from the company.

Lily began teaching a GED class at the prison. Cane became miffed when he surprised her with a visit, but she had to leave early to go to her class. Billy visited Lily and told her that he had caught Cane and Victoria kissing on the couch like teenagers. Neil paid Cane a visit and let him know that he would not be allowed to visit Lily on their beloved Valentines day. Cane socked Billy in the face when he found out what Billy had done. It wasn’t long before Lily filed for divorce. Cane went to see her, begged her to give them another chance. Lily said they had enough chances, their history was just a cycle of pain. She felt the kids were mature enough to handle it, and said she loved Sam like her own but he was Cane’s child. Cane quit his job at Chancellor, intending to spend more time with Lily, and resurrect their marriage. But Lily was not interested, mentioning that the twins would be going to college soon anyway.

On April 23, 2019, Lily was released from prison, and Neil was there to welcome her. They traveled to Genoa City to attend the grand opening of Society, a new restaurant venture by Devon and Abby Newman, featuring head chef Lola Rosales. Neil felt exhausted and laid down for a nap upstairs at Devon’s penthouse, promising to meet them there later. When Neil failed to show up, Devon went home to check on him. Devon came down his stairway in tears, having discovered that Neil had died of a stroke in his sleep. Everyone in Genoa City whose life Neil had touched was saddened and shocked by the news of the death of their friend. Lily blamed herself for being a constant worry to Neil, having even moved to be near her, and visited her all the time. She said that she had killed Hilary, and now she had killed her father. Devon shared how his life had become a series of goodbyes; to Dru, Katherine, Hilary, their unborn child, and now Neil. Lily’s biological father Malcolm arrived, saying he and Neil had loved each other as much as they had fought. Ashley and Jack Abbott called a truce to their feud in memory of Neil.

Family and friends gathered for Neil’s funeral in tears, where Lily’s foster sister Ana sang “Amazing Grace”. They shared remembrances and stories of how Neil had touched their lives and made them better. Neil’s former wife Sofia was there with their young son Moses. Lily tried to speak but got choked up. Malcolm took over, and off the cuff, gave a touching eulogy about how Neil was always dogging him, trying to make him a better man. Olivia was unable to attend, but through her son Nate sent a message that Neil was with Dru again, united forever. Everyone then gathered at Devon’s penthouse to celebrate Neil’s life, reminiscing, honoring, and playing his favorite jazz. Malcolm took a group photo, and ended it with a toast; “to Neil Ellis Winters, music lover, businessman, philanthropist, humanitarian, best friend, father, grandfather, best brother you could ask for.”

Lily and Cane split up and eventually divorced, and Lily returned to Lakewood to continue teaching at the correctional center as an employee. Neil’s will was read a month later by Michael Baldwin. Neil wrote that Cane had hurt Lily but also gave her a lot of happiness and him two grandchildren, so forgave him. Malcolm was left the family photo albums, and Olivia a $100,000 donation to Doctors Without Borders and a sculpture. Ana was left Neil’s vinyl record collection. Moses was left a trust fund, a college fund, and a stipend for Sofia. Devon was willed Neil’s half of Hamilton Winters, making him Chairman with stipulations; that Nate would have a board seat and be given a monthly stipend and Neil’s penthouse, and that Devon would do random acts of kindness, giving others a leg up as Kay had done for him. Lily was willed Neil’s entire financial assets, trust funds for Charlie and Mattie, Neil’s hope that they would in the future run Hamilton Winters together, and a copy of Hans Christian Anderson Fairy Tales, telling Lily to “go find your happily ever after,” Cane finally gave in and signed the divorce papers and Lily returned to Lakewood.

Mattie and Charlie visited Cane in Europe for the 2019 holidays. Devon visited Lily for Christmas, since Elena was working. Lily announced that she had begun dating again.

A few months later, Jill brought back Lily to partner with Billy Abbott running the new Chancellor media division ChancComm to focus on print, digital, and apps. Considering Billy’s history of screwing up, Lily was reluctant, but jumped at the opportunity. Jill leased the former Dark Horse offices for them. Lily and Billy disagreed on a lot of things, but decided they were a good match. They convinced Traci to head the serialized online fiction department and Amanda to join them as their inhouse legal counsel. They asked Theo to join ChancComm with promises of a digital magazine, gaming influencers, and a 24-hour news channel. Theo later went to them with a proposal, and they hired him.

It wasn’t long before the unlikely pair of Billy and Lily realized they had fallen in love. They went from making out in the office elevator to sex after their first date, and eventually moved in together.

Jill returned to Genoa City to pick up the pieces of ChanceCOMM after Billy had been duped by Victor and Adam into disgracing the business. Both Newman Media (Victor and Adam) and Newman-Locke (Victoria and her husband Ashland) were interested in buying it. Jill decided to step back as Chancellor Industries CEO and offered the job to Lily Winters with Jill as her mentor. Billy was offered a lessor position under Lily but refused, still only interested in getting even with Victor and Adam. But his love and respect for Lily helped him to see that he was back in the spiral again, gave up on revenge, and joined Lily at Chancellor as COO.

Jill suggested a merger between Chancellor and Hamilton-Winters and helped convince Devon to do it. Billy began doing podcasts aimed at helping people to better themselves. Partnering with Hamilton-Winters, Moses joined him. Lilly proposed that Chancellor-Winters become two-fold with the Hamilton-Winters division focusing on entertainment and media and Chancellor on merchandise, hospitality, commercial real estate such as concert venues and hotels. Devon and Lily would still be in charge of their division. Devon made Nate his COO and renamed LP Streaming to Hamilton Streaming to honor his mother. Jill arrived in town to attend the launch party. Devon had Nate give a speech but warned him to just give an overview, not to tell any details of their plans. Not liking their strategy, Nate wanted to give details. So with Imani’s urging Nate plunged ahead and told of their podcast plans. Devon did not approve, but Lily and Billy agreed that it piqued the interest of their audience and made them hungry for more.
