The 34th Annual Creative Arts & Entertainment Daytime Emmy Awards were presented on Thursday, June 14, at a black-tie gala at Hollywood's Hollywood & Highland Ballroom. For the first time this year, 1,100 performers, producers and craftspeople involved in daytime television, including drama, talk shows, children's programs, game shows and lifestyle programs gathered together at a single ceremony to honor the winners. Previous years saw two ceremonies held simultaneously in both New York and Los Angeles.
The awards presented during the Creative Arts portion of the Emmys include mostly non-acting categories. Categories include Directing in a Talk Show; Casting Director for a Drama Series; Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design; Writing in a Children's series; Costume Design/Styling; Multiple Camera Editing; Music Direction and Composition; Direction in a Children's Special.
The Daytime Emmy Awards are presented to daytime television programs that are broadcast nationally between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 p.m. The eligibility period for this year's Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards was January 1st, 2006 - December 31st, 2006.
For this year's soap side of the Creative Arts balloting eight of the nine current soaps showed up to the party. Only The Bold and the Beautiful failed to win a technical Emmy. Coming out on top was CBS's As the World Turns, which led the pack with 4 wins and 8 technical nominations. Among ATWT's wins were Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design , Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling, Outstanding Achievement in Lighting Direction and Outstanding Achievement in Makeup.
The ABC soaps took home a total of four trophies -- two for One Life to Live and one each for All My Children and General Hospital -- and NBC' Passions and Days of our Lives each took a single Emmy. CBS topped the networks list with six wins so far.
