Drew Cain and Nina Reeves have gone where many predicted they would go at the start of the year when the worst of their General Hospital war began. At the time, they both thought they were settled with the people they loved, but things have a way of changing in an instant on a soap.
Nina's marriage to Sonny is over, and Drew realizes he can never compete with a newly returned Jason in Carly's eyes. So, the woman Drew blames for sending him to prison for a crime he committed is now the latest woman he's slept with, as a heated argument became a heated romp on Nina's Crimson office desk.
When Cameron Mathison learned where his character's relationship was going, nobody was more surprised than him.
"I didn't see it coming at all," Mathison told Soap Opera Digest. "I really didn't. I think the audience did. Cynthia [Watros, Nina] did some appearances and I guess the audience was 'You and Drew, there's some sexy chemistry there.' I was like, 'Wait, what? Really? I didn't even get it. So I love it that it was very unexpected."
Mathison even expressed his shock with a tongue-in-cheek Instagram post featuring a photo from the...angry afterglow, if you can call it that.
"Wait...what just happened?" he wrote next to a snap of a shirtless Drew arguing with a scantily clad Nina.
Mathison previews that both characters will feel a bit awkward when it's all over, but Nina seems to regret it a lot more than Drew.
"I think Drew gets a kick out of it whereas Nina is a little embarrassed by it," Mathison said. "He's like, 'Well, that happened and that was weird because I really don't like you.' Personally, I think it's really fun and different and kind of sexy because of that."
The whole argument started because Nina was trying to convince Drew to let her help him get back at Carly. If Carly ever learns Nina had sex with another one of Carly's exes, that certainly would be sweet revenge for Nina.
