Emilia Pérez is a Spanish-language French musical crime film directed by Jacques Audiard. The film premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on 18 May 2024. It is based on an opera libretto of the same name by Jacques Audiard. He adapted it from a 2018 novel called Écoute, written by the French author Boris Razon. The cast of the film includes Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Adriana Paz, Selena Gomez, Mark Ivanir, and Édgar Ramírez.
The film follows a Mexican cartel leader Juan "Manitas" Del Monte, played by Karla Sofía Gascón, who hires a lawyer Rita Mora Castro, played by Zoe Saldaña, to help fake their disappearance and transition into a woman.
