Emilia Pérez is a Spanish-language French musical crime film directed by Jacques Audiard. The film premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on 18 May 2024. It is based on an opera libretto of the same name by Jacques Audiard. He adapted it from a 2018 novel called Écoute, written by the French author Boris Razon. The cast of the film includes Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Adriana Paz, Selena Gomez, Mark Ivanir, and Édgar Ramírez.


The film follows a Mexican cartel leader Juan "Manitas" Del Monte, played by Karla Sofía Gascón, who hires a lawyer Rita Mora Castro, played by Zoe Saldaña, to help fake their disappearance and transition into a woman. The film was critically acclaimed and praised for its storyline and LGBTQ+ representation. It received many awards and nominations from major award ceremonies. Emilia Pérez premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024 and won three awards there, including the Best Actress award. The director of the film Jacques Audiard shared his thoughts on the honor and said, “I think that is one of the awards that has touched me the most in my entire career. Together, they give a marvelous, astonishing, and surprising performance. Thanks to them, Emilia Pérez doesn’t just tell the story of one woman. It’s about four very different women, all of whom will be remembered.”


At the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, Emilia Pérez won 3 awards, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Zoe Saldaña won her 1st Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. She expressed her gratitude and said, “I'm just so blessed that I’m sharing this moment with Selena and Karla and Jacques … I experienced this kind of magic on the set of Emilia Pérez and it’s thanks to you.” The film also won 3 Critics' Choice Movie Awards.
