Born March 12, 1962, Titus B. Welliver is an American actor who is best known for his roles across film and television. The now 63-year-old made his acting debut in 1990 on television, starting out with small roles across Beverly Hills, 90210, LA Law, The X-Files, and more. However, he never really had a breakout but instead slowly grew his reputation over the years with recurring roles on NYPD Blue, Prison Break, Lost, Touched by an Angel and more following his debut.
He also starred in several feature films with roles in The Doors, Mobsters, Navy SEALs, and more at the start before he slowly moved up the ladder. Titus Welliver was born in New Haven, Connecticut but was raised in Philadelphia and New York City to Neil Welliver and Norma Cripps. His father Neil was a well-known American landscape painter and a professor of fine arts at Yale University when Welliver was born. He then became dean of the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Fine Art. Welliver’s mother, Cripps, was a fashion illustrator and Welliver lived with his parents until 1980 which was when he moved to New York City to study drama at New York University.
He also took on a variety of jobs to support himself including bartending and construction work before Welliver earned his first role in film and television. That came with his debut in 1990 with a role in Matlock and things kicked off from there for the American actor. He earned his first feature film role soon after on Navy SEALs and The Los Capone in the same year, slowly working his way up the ladder. However, it was his roles across television that helped him gain prominence, starring in The X-Files, LA Law, Beverly Hills, 90210, and more until Welliver earned his first recurring role on NYPD Blue in 1995.
That sent him further up the ladder with roles across film and television including in Mullholand Fallas, The Big Fall, Born to Be Wild and more films as well as Brooklyn South, The Practice, and more. He also became well known for his role on Deadwood between 2004 and 2006 which earned him roles in director Ben Affleck’s debut film Gone Baby Gone as well as The Town and Argo. That did improve his career status as Welliver earned a recurring role in Sons of Anarchy as well as the Good Wife, Lost, and The Last Ship amongst others in the late 2000s and early to mid 2010s.
