It is scheduled for release 25 years after the first Shrek movie and 16 years after Forever After.

Based on a screenplay by Michael McCullers, the movie is directed by Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon, co-directed by Brad Ableson, and produced by Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, and Gina Shay. Zendaya will join the ensemble, and Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz will return to their respective voice roles as the main character, Donkey, and Princess Fiona.

The Shrek movie franchise

The Shrek film series centers on Shrek, a grumpy but kind ogre who unwillingly agrees to go on a mission to save a princess. As a result, he makes friends and embarks on several adventures in a world straight out of fairy tales. The franchise has released four films so far:

  • Shrek (2001)

  • Shrek 2 (2004)

  • Shrek the Third (2007)

  • Shrek Forever After (2010)

Additionally, two television specials have been produced: the Christmas television special Shrek the Halls (2007) and the Halloween television special Scared Shrekless (2010). Two spin-off movies were produced based on the Puss in Boots character: Puss in Boots in 2011 and The Last Wish in 2022. There was also a theater musical adaptation that ran on Broadway for over a year (2008–2010).
