The movie is directed by Christopher McQuarrie and reprises Tom Cruise in his iconic character of Ethan Hunt, who now is one of the key agents of the IMF (Impossible Missions Force) along with other characters like Hayley Atwell playing the character Grace, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, and Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, among many others.

The movie Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning recorded the death of one of the recurring characters in the franchise, Ilsa Faust. During the final moments of the movie, Ethan and Ilsa found themselves trapped in the webs of the Entity who is shown to be partnering with Gabriel under mutual hate towards the IMF and its agents. In the final battle between Ilsa and Gabriel, while Ilsa had the upper hand in the initial moments of the fight, she got overpowered by Gabriel. The antagonist killed the character by stabbing a dagger right through her chest, which was the final blow. Ilsa's death in the series was one of the tragic endings of the Mission: Impossible franchise.

How did Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning end?


As the story continued, Ethan's group encountered the key for controlling or destroying the AI “The Entity” which was preserved within a two-part cruciform key, which unlocks a chamber which was located on a sunken Russian submarine, Sevastopol, containing the AI's security codes. The climax unfolds on the Orient Express, where Ethan and Grace confront Gabriel. After a high-stakes battle atop the moving train, while Gabriel manages to escape, Ethan manages to get his hands on the crucial key.


The film ends with Ethan in possession of the complete key and the required information to locate the Sevastopol which sets the stage for his team's next mission, that is locating the submarine to either control or destroy The Entity. By the end of the movie, the character of Grace expresses her will to join the IMF alongside Ethan, while the team prepares for the challenges ahead.

The character of Ilsa Faust is played by actress Rebecca Louisa Ferguson Sundström, more commonly known as Rebecca Ferguson. Born on October 19, 1983, Rebecca made a huge name for herself working on various movies like Life (2017), Doctor Sleep (2019), The Mission: Impossible Franchise and the Dune franchise. The actress made her debut in the industry with the drama The White Queen (2013), for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award.
