Susan Lucci headed back to ABC's lineup

Susan Lucci is headed back to ABC, but it won't be during the daytime hours and it won't be as Erica Kane. Lucci has landed a co-starring role in a primetime pilot being developed by Marc Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives.

For 41 years, Emmy winner Susan Lucci (Erica Kane) was the most recognizable face in ABC's daytime lineup, and an argument could be made that she was the most recognizable face in all of daytime television. Now, the actress is headed back to ABC -- but it won't be in daytime -- and it definitely won't be as Erica Kane.

Deadline Hollywood reports that Lucci has landed a role in Marc Cherry's new pilot, Devious Maids. The primetime soap follows four maids who work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills and struggle with their own ambition and dreams.

Cherry, who is also the creator of Desperate Housewives, had reportedly wanted Lucci to be a part of Desperate Housewives after AMC was canceled. Ironically, Housewives will wrap up its eight-year run on ABC in May.

Lucci will play the role of one of the employers in the series, Genevieve Delacourt. Genevieve is described as a "beautiful, wealthy woman" who spent most of her life attracting man after man after man. Think that sounds sort of like another Erica Kane? Well, not quite. Deadline Hollywood goes on to say that Genevieve is "gently crazy." Apparently as Genevieve has gotten on in years, she's no longer able to woo as many men as she used to, and she's now resigned to seducing her pool boy -- and is, at times, suicidal.

Also signed for the pilot are the four maids -- Judy Reyes, Dania Ramirez, Ugly Betty's Ana Ortiz, and As the World Turns alum Roselyn Sanchez (Pilar Domingo), -- and Rebecca Wisocky, Angelique Cabral, Edy Ganem, and General Hospital vet Brianna Brown (Lisa Niles).

As previously reported, Lucci is also slated to host the new reality series, Deadly Affairs, for the Investigation Discovery channel this fall.

Lucci was an original All My Children cast member and is the only member of the cast to appear on the show for AMC's entire 41-year run.
