EMMY ROUNDUP

What a difference a year can make. One year after General Hospital won a record sixth Outstanding Drama Series Emmy, the show failed to win even a single Emmy.

This year General Hospital received just three nominations. In addition to yet another Drama Series nod, the show was also nominated for Outstanding Directing Team and Outstanding Achievement in Multiple Camera Editing for a Drama Series.

soapcentral.com's Dan Kroll discussed GH's lack of nominations with several other reporters backstage at this year's Emmys. By all accounts, General Hospital's success in recent years had led to a jaded view of the Emmy ceremony. In fact, more than a handful of GH stars reportedly did not even bother to return their Emmy ballot this year. If that is true, the lackadaisical approach cost the show dearly.

Even more peculiar was the decision to have just one General Hospital star appear as a presenter during the telecast. Ingo Rademacher (Jax) was on hand to hand out the Outstanding Writing Team trophy. Beyond that, there was barely a GH star visible.

From our spot on the red carpet, soapcentral.com did manage to spot - and capture on film - the elusive GH stars. Those in attendance included Stephen Nichols (Stefan) and Marisa Ramirez (Gia). Many fans mistakenly identified The Bold and the Beautiful's Justin Torkildsen - an Emmy winner this year for Outstanding Younger Actor - for Jacob Young (Lucky). Ironically, Torkildsen took over the role of Rick Forrester on B&B from young.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Just because General Hospital didn't end up in the winner's circle, it doesn't mean that the show wasn't being talked about.

The biggest rumor of the night was the reported dismissal of Tamara Braun (Carly). Though the accounts of exactly why Braun is on the way out differed slightly, the general (no pun intended) consensus was that "NuCarly" will be gone in a matter of weeks. Some gossip had the role of Carly being written out anyway - and hinted that Braun had simply been brought in because Sarah Brown had not wanted to stick around GH until her storyline could be resolved. Another report states that Carly will take a temporary breather while the casting department can find a permanent replacement for Brown.

Chad Brannon (Zander) has been given a long-term contract with the show. The actor's fate had been questioned since co-star Amber Tamblyn (Emily) is on her way out. According to an insider, Brannon's contract does not mean that Emily will be recast.

Though unconfirmed by anyone associated with General Hospital, the media room was abuzz with talk that Rebecca Herbst (Liz) is pregnant. Other unconfirmed reports have the actress marrying former co-star Michael Saucedo (Juan) next month.
