Beverly and Rick bonded, and Amber interrupted. After Rick left, Amber warned Beverly to stay away from Rick, but Beverly refused to back down. Steffy and Liam enjoyed the resort at Cabo San Lucas, but Steffy discovered that Thomas and Hope were at the same resort. Hope and Thomas were in separate rooms. Steffy worked overtime to keep Hope and Liam from seeing each other. Steffy encouraged Thomas to romance Hope and propose to her, and Steffy enlisted Bill's help to create a romantic setting for Thomas to pop the question. Thomas asked Hope to marry him, and Hope was shocked.
After much thought, Sami accepted the job with Kate at Countess W unaware that there was more to the job offer than she realized. Sami handed in her resignation at Mad Cosmetics, but Madison and Brady were furious and called her a traitor and an ungrateful employee. Daniel's initial test results were inconclusive. Kate told Daniel that she would never forget that he saved her life and tried to comfort him when she learned about his medical problem, but he was suspicious about her sudden concern for his welfare. Melanie fought off her attraction to Chad and convinced herself to move on. Marlena told a furious John that Stefano was in part responsible for his freedom. John and Stefano had a volatile confrontation that ended in their usual game of cat and mouse. Stefano had another secret; a letter addressed to him from Alice Horton that apparently held some significance in his next plan for John. John told Marlena that they were broke, but assured him that things would work out for them. Sami and Will's relationship problems continued. Carrie offered Rafe a partnership in her new legal practice, and Sami though not pleased at the news agreed to be happy for Rafe's sake. Will felt stressed at the party at Horton Square, and rushed off to see Marlena. After an emotional conversation, he finally broke down and confided to her that Sami cheated on Rafe with E.J. Abigail and Chad mutually decided to end their relationship. Bo and Hope were missing Zack on New Years Eve. Salem residents rang in the New Year at the Brady Pub and in Horton Square. Chad ran into a lonely Melanie, and then kissed her on the stroke of midnight.

What happened during the week of
Ethan exchanged messages with the lady in white. Robin pleaded with Jason to see Patrick about Jason's episodes of uncontrollable rage, but Jason refused to go in for a check-up unless Robin agreed to talk to Patrick about her own health crisis. Robin continued to find excuses to keep Patrick out of the loop. Sam realized that her period was late. Jason was surprised to learn that Sam had told Michael about the rape. Michael went to New Zealand to spread Abby's ashes in a field of lavender. Michael spotted Jax in an Auckland airport as Jax made his way back to Port Charles. Carly surprised Shawn with a dog, to help Shawn with his posttraumatic stress disorder. Carly and Shawn shared a heated kiss, but Shawn quickly pulled away, because he wasn't ready for the complication of a relationship. Carly hosted a New Year's Eve bash at Metro Court. Michael overheard Carly and Shawn discuss Jax. Michael used Carly's party to reveal that Carly had known that Jax was alive. Sonny felt betrayed, because Carly had allowed the kids to mourn Jax, and she had been willing to let Sonny go to jail murder. Jason and Michael were injured after Michael walked into the path of Jason's motorcycle. Anthony proposed marriage to Tracy.

Cutter called Kim to ask her to break him out of jail. Kim turned Cutter down, so Cutter reached out to his mother, Alex Olanov. Todd realized that Téa knew that he had killed Victor. Jack was stunned when Neela admitted that she had provided the police with the tape of Jack's confession. Gigi and Rex returned to Llanview, where Gigi was happily reunited with Shane. Rex broke the news to Aubrey that their budding relationship was over, because Gigi was alive. Jack was relieved to realize that he hadn't killed Gigi, but John warned Jack not to celebrate too soon, because Stacy had died as a result of being locked in the basement on that fateful night. Téa pointed out that Stacy had died, because Gigi had fought back when Stacy had tried to kill her sister. Jack tried to apologize to Gigi and Shane for everything that he had done to them, but neither was interested in hearing what Jack had to say. Friends and family gathered for Rex and Gigi's New Year's Eve wedding. Madame Delphina warned John, "all hell breaks loose" on New Year's Eve. As midnight struck, the lights went out in Llanview, and John received a call that there had been a prison break at Statesville. Starr, Nora, and Natalie received unexpected visitors.

Kevin missed Chloe while forced to stay on the run with Angelina. On their honeymoon, Billy and Victoria agreed to forget Myanmar. Kevin's actions confused Chloe. When an adoption agency had a prospective mother for them to meet, Billy and Victoria rushed home. Nikki refused to return to rehab. Victor finally told Michael his master plan to neutralize Adam permanently. To maintain Faith's custody deal with Nick, Sharon got a restraining order against Adam. Angelina's song hit the web. Adam told Sharon he still loved her and they had sex one last time before the court order took effect. Phyllis and Nick were jealous of each other. Cane was worried about Genevieve's engagement to Jack. Nikki tried to fool Deacon into revealing what he did the night of Diane's death. Patty drugged Jack's champagne. Angelina posted a picture on Faceplace and Angelo realized she'd lied to him about her whereabouts. Kay was grateful to Harmony. Sharon visited Victor on New Year's and he surprised her with a diamond and a marriage proposal. Nikki saw the ring on Sharon's hand and Victor asked Nikki to leave. The girl who slept with Billy in Myanmar went to see Billy and Victoria. Angelina lied to Kevin about Carmine being after them.
