The upcoming comedy drama series Government Cheese is created by Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr. The cast features David Oyelowo, Simone Missick, Bokeem Woodbine, Adam Beach, Sunita Mani, Jahi Winston and more.
The show is set in 1969, and centers on the Chambers family, an African American family in the San Fernando Valley. A chaos breaks out when Hampton Chambers, a former burglar who is now an inventor, gets out of jail.

David Oyelowo as Hampton Chambers
The British actor David Oyelowo portrays Hampton Chambers in the series. Oyelowo became popular for his roles as Peter Snowden in the HBO movie Nightingale (2014) and Martin Luther King Jr. in the biographical drama film Selma (2014), both of which earned him praise from critics. He was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2016 for his contributions to drama.
Simone Missick as Astoria Chambers
The American actress Simone Missick portrays Astoria Chambers in the series. She is renowned for her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Detective Misty Knight in Luke Cage (2016-2018), whom she also played in The Defenders (2017) and Iron Fist (2018). She played Lola Carmichael in All Rise from 2019 to 2023.
Bokeem Woodbine
The American actor Bokeem Woodbine is appearing in the upcoming Government Cheese series. His character/role hasn’t yet been disclosed. Woodbine played Joshua, the main character's troubled brother, in Jason's Lyric in 1994.
