Phyllis Smith as Sadness

Phyllis Smith plays the role of Sadness in the film. Sadness is one of the main characters of the film and her character is shown as a gloomy and sulky emotion who is an important part of the emotions headquarter. In the film, she helps Riley heal and express her feelings to her parents related to her core memories.

Maya Hawke plays the role of Anxiety in the film. She is one of the main characters of the film and is introduced as one of the four new emotions in the headquarters. In the film, she challenges Joy, takes over as the leader of the headquarters, and controls Riley’s mind and behavior.

As Riley’s life undergoes many changes, she experiences new emotions like Envy. Envy makes Riley take impulsive decisions and her eyes sparkle when she sees someone she admires.

Ennui means boredom in French, and her character is not interested in handling the control console of emotions. In the film, she can be seen sitting on the couch, uninterested, and scrolling through her phone.
