British-American actress Hayley Atwell is best known for her portrayal of Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, she was introduced to theater early in her life. Her early on-screen appearances included roles in productions such as “Whatever Love Means (2005)” and “Cassandra’s Dream (2007).” Atwell’s performances span genres ranging from period dramas like “Cinderella (2015)” to sci-fi shows such as the “Black Mirror” episode titled “Be Right Back” in 2013. She is also all set to appear as Grace in the Tom Cruise thriller “Mission: Impossible- The Final Reckoning (2025)” and as Cindy in the animated comedy “Grand Prix of Europe (2025).”

Atwell’s television debut was in the romantic drama series “The Line of Beauty (2006).” She played Catherine Fedden, the daughter of a fallen politician. In 2009, she starred in “The Prisoner,” a remake of the 1960s science-fiction series. However, her breakthrough role in the U.S. came in “Any Human Heart (2010),” where she portrayed the lifelong love of the 20th-century writer Logan Mountstuart, Freya.


The same year, she played Aliena, an aristocrat navigating the political and religious upheavals during a civil war, in “The Pillars of the Earth.” Her performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination in 2011. Atwell has also starred as Peggy Carter in Marvel’s “Agent Carter (2015-2016),” marking it as her most significant role on television.
