Best known for his portrayal of Detective Elliot Stabler in the “Law & Order” franchise, he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2006. He developed an interest in acting early in his life; however, he majored in History at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

His other notable performances include playing Lt. Halperin in “12 Monkeys (1995),” Colonel Nathan Hardy in “Man of Steel (2013),” August Pullman in “Underground (2016-2017),” and Roman Zimojic in “True Blood (2012).” He appeared as Gene, an unpredictable camp chef, in the comedy “Wet Hot American Summer (2001).” In “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004), he played Freakshow, an unsettling yet likable tow-truck driver. From 2017 to 2019, he starred in the surreal dark comedy “Happy” as Nick Sax, an ex-cop who turns in to a reckless hitman.

Meloni, together with his spouse Sherman Williams, purchased a Hollywood Hills property in 2014. While it was listed, it was reportedly also being leased out and earned around $20,000-$30,000 per month. Additionally, Meloni also owns three condos in West Village, New York City, that he purchased for a combined $5.35 million in 2021.
