Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa, widely known as Jason Momoa, is an American actor born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Being an only child, he was born on August 1, 1979, to Coni (née Lemke), a photographer, and Joseph Momoa, a painter.

He began his acting career in 1999–2001 as Jason Ioane on the syndicated action drama series Baywatch: Hawaii. He played Khal Drogo in the first two seasons of HBO’s fantasy drama series Game of Thrones (2011–2012) and Ronon Dex on the Syfy science fiction series Stargate Atlantis (2005–2009).

In contrast to his mother, who is German, Irish, and Pawnee, his father is Native Hawaiian. He and his mother relocated to Norwalk, Iowa, where he was raised after his parents' divorce shortly after his birth. Before Jason started spending summers in Hawaii with his father, his mother raised him there for the following twelve years.

Joseph visited occasionally while Coni and Jason were residing in Iowa. However, he would soon get too homesick to remain for a prolonged amount of time. Jason desired to live with his Hawaiian family permanently after meeting them when he was twelve years old. Joseph, however, advised his son to stay in Iowa and finish his schooling first. The older Momoa then suggested Jason was free to visit Hawaii as frequently as he desired.

Jason posts about his father and other parts of his life on social media very often. When the first Aquaman movie came out in December 2018, Jason shared a picture of Joseph clutching a conch shell in front of an Aquaman poster on Instagram. Every time Jason travels to Hawaii to visit his father, they make it a point to dine at Zippy's, a well-known local eatery.

When Jason is in town, he also connects with other family members. Brian Keaulana, the actor's cousin, told the Star-Advertiser that the neighbourhood is very polite and allows Jason and his family to finish their meals before anyone comes near.

Mabel, Coni's mother, had a significant impact on her grandson. A year after Mabel died in 2021, Jason talked candidly about their relationship. In November 2022, Jason posted on Instagram, "I LOVED MAKING MY GRANDMA LAUGH it's been a year now i miss u grams. i wish she got to see this last movie she would have been so happy.”

Jason Momoa has two children with his former wife, Lisa Bonet. The ex-couple met by coincidence and began dating in 2005. In July 2007, Momoa and Bonet welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Lola Iolani, two years later. The next year, their second child, a son named Nakoa-Wolf, was born.

In January 2022, the pair, who had been married for five years, declared their divorce. Eventually, on January 8, 2024, Bonet filed for divorce which was approved the following day. The couple still remain active parents to their kids even after their separation.
