Rachel Brosnahan is an American actress known for her compelling performances across television and film. Born on July 12, 1990 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Brosnahan’s interest in acting can be traced back to her high school days. She participated in musicals organized at Northwood Junior High School and also attended Broadway boot camp during her teenage years. She is a graduate from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.


Brosnahan’s film debut was when she was still in high school in Michael Bay’s 2009 horror mystery “The Unborn” where she played Lisa. She also appeared in television shows such as “Gossip Girl” in 2010, “CSI: Miami” in 2011, and “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2013. She won a Primetime Emmy in 2018 and two Golden Globes in 2018 and 2019, respectively, for her portrayal of Miriam ‘Midge’ Maisel in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”


She made her stage debut with “Up” in 2009 at the Steppenwolf Theater. She was also featured in the 2013 Broadway production of “The Big Knife” under the Roundabout Theater Company. Additionally, she played Desdemona in New York Theater Workshop’s 2016 staging of “Othello”, starring alongside Daniel Craig and David Oyelowo.

Brosnahan’s portrayal of Genevieve Duchannes in the 2013 romantic gothic fantasy “Beautiful Creatures” gained her significant recognition. She played Erin in the 2015 drama film “Louder Than Bombs,” Sandra in the 2016 thriller “Burn Country”, Jamie in the 2017 drama “Boomtown,” and Jean in the 2020 crime-thriller “I’m Your Woman.” She was also the voice of police officer “Wendy” in the 2019 animated spy comedy film “Spies in Disguise.”

Brosnahan’s role as Rachel Posner in the American political thriller series “House of Cards” earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2015 in the category “Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.” However, it is her portrayal of Midge Maisel, a homemaker-turned-stand-up comic, that earned her widespread recognition and critical acclaim. She received more than 15 awards for the role over the years, including 2 Golden Globes, 2 Critics Choice Awards, and a Primetime Emmy.

Brosnahan will take on the role of Regan in Bernard Rose’s “Lear Rex,” an adaptation of Shakespeare’s King Lear. She will portray Lois Lane in James Gunn’s 2025 fantasy action film “Superman.”


She also stars as Sarah in James Hawes’ upcoming spy thriller movie “The Amateur”, also starring Rami Malek and Jon Bernthal. The film’s set for an April 11, 2025 theatrical release. Watch the official trailer of “The Amateur” here:
