Meryl Streep was born on June 22, 1949, in Summit, New Jersey. She started her career by acting in plays, and her first professional job was at Eugene O'Neill Theatre Centre where she performed in multiple plays. Her first stage performance was in 1975, in New York, as she got cast in Trelawny of the Wells. She made her film debut in Julia (1977). She got her breakthrough role in The Deer Hunter (1978) and she even received her first Oscar nomination for her role. She is known for her versatile acting and has been working in the industry for over 5 decades.


She has worked in many major films like Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), Sophie’s Choice (1982), The Bridges of Madison Country (1995), The Devil Wears Prada (2006), Mamma Mia! (2008), The Iron Lady (2011), Into the Woods (2014), and more. She has won multiple awards for her performances in the films. She has won 3 Academy Awards, 9 Golden Globe Awards, 2 BAFTA, and 3 Primetime Emmy Awards.

Meryl Streep has four children with her ex-husband Don Gummer. Her children are Henry Wolfe, Mamie Gummer, Grace Gummer, and Louisa Jacobson. Her eldest son is Henry Wolfe, who was born in 1979. He is a musician and songwriter by profession. He has released several albums and also worked on his mother’s films including Julie & Julia, Ricki, and The Flash. In an interview with The Daily News, he told what it's like to be Meryl Streep's son. He said, "The fact that my mom is who she is can be overshadowing. Sometimes I worry that my story isn't good enough. Sure, my mom is part of the story and I don't get pissed when people ask me about her, but I wish I had something that could eclipse that as far as compelling storylines."


Mamie Gummer is her second eldest child and she was born on August 3, 1983. She is an actress like her mother. She has appeared in films and television shows, including Emily Owens, M.D. (2012-2013) and The Good Wife (2010-2015). She has often been compared to Meryl because of her strong acting skills. In an interview in 2007 with Hello magazine, she said "At home, she's not Meryl Streep — she's Mum; she's great and I love her a lot." Grace Gummer, her third child was born on May 9, 1986. Grace is also an actress just like her mother and elder sister. She has worked in TV series such as Mr. Robot (2014) and American Horror Story (2015). Like her sister Mamie, she has built a successful career in Hollywood.


Meryl’s youngest daughter, Louisa Jacobson, was born in 1991. She is an actress and model. She starred in the HBO series The Gilded Age (2022). In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, she shared how her mother got on her nerves by asking her many questions. She said, "Even today, she was like, 'All right, Pickle, is the car coming for you?' She's like, 'Do you have everything you need? Is someone coming to pick you up from the theater?' "

Meryl Streep was married to sculptor Don Gummer for over 45 years. They met through Meryl’s brother. The couple got married in 1978.


However, in 2023, it was revealed that Meryl and Don had quietly separated after many years together. The couple had been living apart for some time but chose to keep their personal matters private. In an interview with People, a representative of Meryl said, “Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart,”
