Shrek is a superhit American animated film franchise. The 1st film of the franchise was Shrek, which was released in 2001 by DreamWorks Animation. It was directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson and written by Ted Elliott, Terry Rossio, Joe Stillman, and Roger S. H. Schulman. The film is based on a children's book Shrek! by William Steig. Shrek became an instant hit for its storytelling, humor, and fairy-tale twist. Instead of a traditional prince, the story follows Shrek, a grumpy but kind-hearted ogre, who goes on an adventure to rescue Princess Fiona. The film was a big success and won the first-ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Due to its popularity, the franchise expanded with many sequels, including Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek the Third (2007), and Shrek Forever After (2010). The films feature many classic fairy-tale characters but with a funny and modern twist. The franchise also has spin-offs like Puss in Boots (2011) and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022). Over the years, Shrek has remained a fan-favorite, with its mix of humor, adventure, and heartwarming moments. One of the most important characters in the films is Princess Fiona, who is different from traditional princesses in fairy tales. Princess Fiona is introduced as a beautiful princess trapped in a tower, waiting to be rescued by a prince. However, unlike traditional fairy tales, she isn’t rescued by any prince. Her rescuer is not a prince charming but Shrek, an ogre. Fiona is not an ordinary princess, she has a big secret. She turns into an ogre at night because of a magical curse. She believes that only true love’s kiss can break the curse and make her human forever.

As the story progresses, Fiona starts having feelings for Shrek and realizes that true love is about accepting someone for who they are. By the end of the 1st movie, she chooses to stay an ogre permanently because she loves Shrek. In the rest of the films of the franchise, Fiona plays a strong and independent character who is also a skilled fighter and leader. She proves that she is not a typical princess waiting to be saved but someone who can take control of her own destiny. Fiona’s character is loved by fans because of her bravery, kindness, and sense of humor.

She learned that she could and should be proud of her true self.” She added, “I originally was drawn to Fiona’s quest for self-love and acceptance, and ultimately we went on that adventure together. It is so rare to be with a character for a span of four films and to be able to see a character grow. To be a part of her journey has been such a gift.”
