Simone was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 19, 1982. Having spent her early years playing the violin and taking part in sports, she has always inclined herself toward the arts. Initially an English major at Howard University, she developed an interest in theater and graduated with a minor in Theater Arts.

Simone has studied under veteran actors of the industry including Alan Rickman, Ben Kingsley, and Jane Lapotaire during her time at the British American Drama Academy in England. After her return to the U.S. she initially took part in the regional theater scene in Detroit. She later moved to Los Angeles to pursue mainstream acting.

Dorian, quite similar to his wife, discovered his passion for acting at a young age. His role as Ron Dellums, a congressman, made him dedicate himself to researching the political landscape of the 1970s.

His mother reportedly assisted him financially during his early years in the industry.
