Jake and Amanda rushed to a nearby hospital after they discovered that an abandoned child had been taken there. Amanda was desperate to see the baby, but the nurse refused to allow Amanda near the nursery. Jake managed to persuade the nurse to fetch the baby, so that they could determine if the child was their son. While they waited for the nurse to return, Jake suggested that they have a plausible cover story ready in the event that the baby was Trevor.

Amanda was hopeful that the baby would turn out to be her son. Jake was cautiously optimistic as he tried to keep Amanda calm and focused on the positive. Jake informed her that the hospital had an excellent reputation, so the baby was in good hands. More importantly, David was not on staff at the hospital, which meant that, if the baby was Trevor, he was not under David's thumb. A short time later, the nurse returned with the baby. Amanda was crushed when she realized that it wasn't her son.

Marissa was frustrated when David refused to authorize her release from the hospital. David insisted that Marissa needed more time to recuperate. Marissa argued that she was well enough to go home. She was certain that if she were anyone else, her father would have signed off on her release. David ignored his daughter's complaints. As he walked out, he promised to return after his rounds.

Marissa decided to call in a favor. She picked up her cell phone, and a short time later, JR entered her room. He had some clothes for Marissa. After Marissa changed clothes, JR sneaked Marissa out of the hospital. They went to the Yacht Club.

At the Yacht Club, Marissa and JR sat down to enjoy cheeseburgers and fries. Marissa was delighted to be out from under David's watchful eye. She wanted to focus on her and JR for the day, nothing else. While they ate, Marissa and JR goofed around and ended up tossing fries at each other. Their laughter came to an abrupt halt when David suddenly loomed behind them. David wanted to know, "Didn't anyone ever tell you not to play with your food?"

Things quickly turned ugly. David warned Marissa that JR would hurt her when he went off on one of his famous benders. Marissa made it clear that it was her idea to leave the hospital, not JR's. David blamed JR's influence for Marissa's reckless choice. JR volunteered to wait at the bar while Marissa spoke privately to David.

After JR walked away, David was adamant that he would not lose another daughter to JR. He insisted that Marissa move in to Wildwind. Marissa was reluctant to agree, so David compromised. He asked that Marissa live at Wildwind until she had fully recovered. Marissa agreed, but with the stipulation that David back off. Marissa wanted David to trust her to make the right choices for herself.

At the bar, JR complained of a headache and asked for some aspirin. Scott heard his cousin's request as he approached the bar. Scott suggested that JR could avoid headaches if he stopped drinking vodka. To make his point, Scott looked at the glass in front of JR. JR ignored Scott's advice; instead, JR decided to go home to rest. Before JR left, he asked that Scott have dessert with Marissa. JR mentioned that Marissa had been looking forward to having a sundae.

Marissa was surprised when Scott joined her and David. When Scott handed Marissa her ice cream treat, she looked around for JR. Scott explained that JR had been called away. Marissa decided to find JR, but David objected because of Marissa's stitches. Scott offered to track down his cousin for Marissa.

JR went to the Pine Valley Hospital to see his grandfather. When he was told that Joe wasn't on duty, he decided to return the following day . JR made it as far as the elevators before he suddenly collapsed.

When Liza showed up at the Chandler mansion to collect Zach's check, Adam invited her in. Annie was waiting for Adam as he entered the parlor with Liza. Annie didn't hesitate to voice her displeasure about the loan to Zach. Adam insisted that it had been a wise investment. Eager to be on her way, Liza asked for the check. Adam explained that she would have to wait, because Scott had been sent to collect it.

When Scott arrived, Adam decided that he wanted to personally deliver the check to Zach. Adam wanted to go to Zach's house alone, but Liza insisted on accompanying him. After Adam and Liza left, Annie turned to Scott for help. Annie claimed that she couldn't trust Adam because of the loan to Zach.

Scott had difficulty understanding Annie's logic. He pointed out that she didn't appear to have had any issues trusting Adam when she had learned that Adam had bribed a judge. Annie admitted that she was selfish, in large part because of her insecurities. However, Annie was desperate to change her ways; she was hopeful that Scott would help her.

Later, Annie admitted that she had been impressed with Scott's new mission statement for the company. She was confident that it would change the direction of the Chandler Enterprises. Annie wanted Scott to help her with her own mission statement. She was eager to be a better person. Scott was reluctant to get mixed up with Annie, but she was relentless. The moment he began to capitulate, Annie enthusiastically threw her arms around Scott to hug him.

Scott pulled away from Annie. He suggested that the first step to being a better person was to stop playing games. Annie closed the distance between her and Scott as she seductively asked Scott to clarify himself. They were interrupted when Adam returned from Zach's house. Annie quickly stepped away from Scott.

She claimed that she and Scott had been brainstorming new ways to improve the company. Adam appeared satisfied with Annie's explanation. When the topic of Zach's loan was mentioned, Adam revealed that Zach and Ryan were at each other's throats. Adam was confident that the animosity between Zach and Ryan would work to Adam's advantage and put him in a position of power.

Annie confessed that she thought that the company's new philosophy was about giving back to the community, not about power and greed. Adam chuckled as he admitted that she sounded like Scott. Annie looked at Scott while she told Adam that she considered Adam's words a compliment. Adam suggested that perhaps Annie and Scott should work together more often. Annie watched Scott closely as she revealed that the idea of working with Scott appealed to her.

Later, Adam and Barry were in the foyer waiting for Annie. Adam reminded Barry that the judge would handle everything during Annie's competency hearing. Adam made it clear that he expected Barry to sit and be quiet. Barry confessed that he wished that all of his cases were that easy. Annie was a nervous wreck when she joined Adam and Barry. She worried that something would go wrong.

Zach and Kendall were asleep in the secret room while Jesse quietly searched the house. Ryan arrived moments later to drop off Spike. When Ryan saw the front door off of its hinges, he grew concerned. As Ryan entered the house to investigate, Jesse stepped forward. Jesse took responsibility for the damaged door.

Jesse explained that someone had placed a 9-1-1 call from the Slater residence the previous evening. When authorities had responded, they were told that one of the children had accidentally called the emergency number. However, Jesse decided to follow up, but he had been unable to reach Zach. Ryan was worried about where Zach and Ian were. Jesse assured Ryan that everything was fine, but then Ian cried out. Ryan went to check on Ian

In the secret room, Zach woke up when he heard his son's cries over the baby monitor. While Zach and Kendall argued about who would go to Ian, they heard Ryan and Jesse enter Ian's bedroom. Startled, Kendall snatched up her robe and then jumped out of bed. In her rush, Kendall accidentally knocked over a lamp. Ryan heard the crash from Ian's room.

Kendall decided that they needed to tell Ryan the truth, but Zach objected. Zach believed that Jesse would be able to explain the noise away without revealing that Kendall was hiding in the house. Meanwhile, in the bedroom, Ryan and Jesse were distracted when they heard another noise near the front of the house.

When Ryan and Jesse investigated the second sound, they found Liza and Adam standing in the foyer. Seconds later, Zach walked through the living room. When Zach saw everyone gathered in the foyer, he demanded to know what was going on and what had happened to his front door. Jesse immediately took responsibility for the damaged door, while Adam explained that he was there to drop off Zach's check.

Ryan was furious when he realized that Adam was giving Zach money. Ryan accused Adam of trying to bribe everyone in town. Ryan's anger mounted when Adam announced that Annie's competency hearing was scheduled for later that day. Adam warned Ryan that he intended to help Annie reclaim her life, including her daughter. Jesse stepped in before things turned physical. After Jesse escorted Adam out of the house, Ryan turned his wrath on Zach.

Ryan accused Zach of trying to punish him for having slept with Kendall. Ryan was certain that Zach was in cahoots with Adam. Ryan couldn't believe that Zach would use Emma to lash out at Ryan. Zach didn't help matters when he calmly announced that he believed that children belonged with their mothers. Ryan viciously punched Zach in the face and then stormed out. Liza dashed to the kitchen to grab an ice pack.

When Liza returned to the living room, Kendall was lurking in the hallway, eavesdropping on Zach and Liza's conversation. As Kendall crept closer to the living room, one of the boys called out to her. In the living room, Liza was stunned when she heard one of the boys on the baby monitor talk about his mommy.

Annie's fears were realized when she entered the courtroom and found Ryan waiting. Annie was certain that Ryan was there to sabotage her.

Spike called for Kendall; meanwhile, Liza and Zach heard the little boy over the baby monitor. Liza quipped, "Why didn't you tell me you had Kendall stashed upstairs?" Zach looked nervous and pretended that Spike was having a hard time without his mother. Zach explained that Spike spoke as if Kendall were in the house. Liza understood and hoped the child would feel better. Zach excused himself to check on Spike.

Zach entered Spike's room and saw Kendall. Zach reminded Kendall that she should not leave her room. Kendall was annoyed that Liza was in the house and urged him to get rid of Liza.

Zach returned to the living room to see Liza. Liza gathered her belongings to leave, but noted that she could stay if Zach needed her. He told her to go. He then thanked her for her help with the loan.

Kendall was upset with Zach for taking a loan from Adam. Zach explained that he took the loan to get closer to Adam, so he could prove Annie's guilt. Kendall reminded Zach that she felt guilty for Stuart's murder. He urged her to relax and focus on her innocence.

Kendall wondered why Zach did not tell Ryan the truth about the loan. Zach stated that he did not owe Ryan anything. Zach wished to work alone. She retorted that he was not working alone; Liza was helping him. He said that Liza was an employee. Kendall was certain that Liza had romantic feelings for Zach. He affirmed that he did not want Liza.

Kendall assumed that Zach did not love her anymore. He replied, "I will love you until the day I die." She could not understand why he refused to forgive her. She begged him to forgive her, so they could move on and be together. He said nothing. She asked him what he wanted, but he did not have an answer.

Liza visited Tad. She admitted that she was hung up on Zach. Tad did not understand why Liza was attracted to Zach. She explained that Zach's eyes drew her in. She also confessed that they had a steamy one-night stand. Tad was disgusted and did not want to hear the details. Tad encouraged Liza to forget about Zach. Tad stated, "Zach and Kendall are untouchable." Tad further noted that Zach and Kendall were inseparable, so Liza had no chance with Zach. Tad suggested that Liza leave town and start anew. She agreed that she needed a fresh start.

Liza went back to Zach's house. He asked her if she forgot anything. She said yes, and planted a big kiss on him. Suddenly, Kendall hit Liza over the head with her computer. Liza tumbled to the ground.

JR went to the hospital and asked to see Joe. A nurse told him that Joe was unavailable. As JR walked away, he became dizzy and fell to the ground. Angie saw JR and took him into a room. He swore that he was not drunk. She asked him if he had experienced any other dizzy spells. He admitted that he had not been feeling well. After she examined him, she ordered some tests.

Marissa arrived at the hospital and was surprised to see JR. JR claimed that he was at the hospital for an AA meeting. She revealed that she was moving in with David. JR thought that was a mistake. She disagreed and felt that she could change David's mind about their relationship, if she spent enough time with him. JR warned her not to trust David. She was annoyed that JR did not have faith in her. She sarcastically commented, "Thanks for the support," and walked away.

Tad and Jake discussed their theories on who took Trevor. They agreed that David did not take Trevor because it appeared that David was obsessed with baby Stuart. Amanda overheard their conversation and stated, "Strangers have my baby." Jake tried to console her, but she walked outside. Jake informed Tad that Amanda was a mess. Just then, Jake heard Amanda drive off. He was worried about where she was headed.

Amanda entered the hospital and saw David. She berated him for making her lose her baby. She yelled, "Why couldn't you just let me have him. It's your fault that I lost my baby!" Then, Jake found Amanda and she fell into his arms crying. David looked stunned.

David asked Jake if Amanda was feeling okay. Jake explained that he gave her a sedative to calm her. David noted that Amanda spoke of their baby as if he were alive. Jake claimed that Amanda's postpartum depression was very bad. Jake proceeded to blame Amanda's dire situation on David.

Marissa overheard Jake and David's conversation. Marissa hugged David and told him that he deserved to mourn the baby just as much as Jake and Amanda. David was touched by Marissa's compassion. He apologized for "tricking" her into moving in with him. He gave her a chance to reconsider, but she was excited to live with him. She wanted him to be a part of her life.

Amanda woke up in a hospital bed and asked where she was. Jake told her that she was in the hospital and that he had given her a sedative. She told Jake that she had a great dream. She dreamed that they were with Trevor on a row boat. She said that the three of them were very happy. She then cried as she stated that she did not deserve Trevor. She blamed herself for the baby's disappearance. Jake affirmed that she was a wonderful mother. He promised to find Trevor, so they could all go on a row boat together. She smiled.

JR asked Angie to keep his visit to the hospital a secret. He feared that people would assume he fell off the wagon. She promised to be discreet. She then revealed that JR's tests indicated his blood cell count was irregular. She wanted to admit JR, so they could run more tests. He looked scared.

Annie and Adam entered the judge's chambers and were shocked to see Ryan. Adam wanted Ryan removed from Annie's competency hearing, but the judge allowed Ryan to stay.

The judge reviewed Annie's case. He commented that Annie had "quite the journey." He asked Annie how she felt about her past. She calmly stated that she was not of sound mind when she killed Richie and stabbed Erica. She claimed that she regretted her actions. Ryan stood up and declared that Annie was a dangerous woman.

Adam was aggravated by Ryan's outburst, but the judge allowed Ryan to speak. Ryan told the judge that Emma was greatly affected by Annie's wrongdoings. He revealed that Annie kidnapped Emma and put the girl in harm's way. He further noted that Emma shut down emotionally because Annie made her keep secrets. Annie interjected that she regretted hurting Emma. Annie called Ryan a good father and claimed that she did not want to take Emma away from him. Annie said that she was determined to be a better person, so she could eventually share custody of Emma.

The judge decided that Annie was competent to stand trial. Nevertheless, he stipulated that Annie would remain under house arrest and could not see Emma.

After the hearing, Adam called the judge. Adam asked why the judge allowed Ryan to stay. The judge thought it would look suspicious if he did not grant access to Ryan. The judge suggested that Adam hire a good defense lawyer. The judge also warned Adam that Ryan could ruin Annie's chances of an acquittal.

Annie called Ryan. She swore to him that she would get acquitted and then regain full custody of Emma.

Angie received the results from JR's tests. She was worried because he had a low blood cell count. She wished to run more extensive tests. He realized that his condition might be serious. He urged her to tell him more. She said that she wanted to consult with other doctors before she gave him answers. He wondered what type of doctors she had to consult. She replied that she would speak with a hematologist and an oncologist. He exclaimed, "Cancer!" She said that she needed to take more tests before she knew his exact ailment. He did not want to hear it and stormed out of the hospital.

David took Marissa home from the hospital. He made her a sandwich and an ice cream sundae. She was grateful for his attentive care. He apologized for practically forcing her to move in. She affirmed that she wanted to be there. She added that she would only be staying for a few days, until she felt better.

David told Marissa that he was on-call at the hospital, so he asked someone to keep her company. She retorted that she did not need a babysitter. He said it was not a babysitter, it was Scott. She looked annoyed and accused David of trying to set her up with Scott. David felt that Scott was a good fit for her. David then warned her that JR had a "self-destruct button." David did not want Marissa to get hurt by JR. She was fed up with her father's attempts to manipulate her against JR. She wanted to leave, but she was too sore. David urged her to stay, so he could take care of her. She agreed.

Scott arrived at David's home. Scott asked why David needed to see him. David claimed that he was concerned JR was drinking again. David suggested that Scott and Marissa work together to help JR. Marissa interrupted and told Scott the truth. She stated that David hoped they would fall in love with each other while helping JR. She said, "This is David's idea of matchmaking."

David received a call from the hospital and had to leave. Marissa apologized to Scott for David's actions. Scott understood that Marissa just wanted to be friends with him. He told her that she could count on him if she needed a friendly face.

As Scott left the house, he ran into JR at the front door. Scott asked JR if he had been drinking, but JR denied the accusation. Scott told JR to treat Marissa well since she was a good person.

JR visited Marissa. As he inquired about Marissa's health, he noticed liquor on a table close by. He looked longingly at the bottles. He then turned to Marissa and said that he was tired of playing games. He stated that they were attracted to each other and they should do something about it. JR quickly changed his mind and affirmed that David was correct; she should stay away from him. She seemed confused by his erratic behavior. He noted that he wanted to live a full life because it could all be taken away soon. She wondered if something happened to JR. He grabbed her and kissed her.

Kendall freaked out when she saw Liza kiss Zach, so she hit Liza over the head with her computer. Liza tumbled to the ground. Kendall looked worried and asked Zach if she killed Liza. Zach felt Liza's pulse and said she would be fine. He admonished Kendall for her rash behavior and told her to go to her room.

Liza awoke and Zach pretended that the front door fell and hit her on the head. She believed the story. He insisted that a doctor examine her, so he called the hospital.

As they waited for a doctor, Liza told Zach that they needed to talk about the kiss. She explained that she felt a connection with him ever since their one-night stand in the casino. She further noted that Zach did not tell anyone about her fake pregnancy, including Kendall. She was grateful that she could trust him. He said that they shared a connection because they shared a secret. She disagreed and affirmed that they shared chemistry. He declared that he loved Kendall. Liza reminded him that Kendall could be in prison for at least 15 years. He replied that his relationship with Kendall was "forever." Liza commented that Kendall was a lucky woman.

David arrived at Zach's house to examine Liza. Zach explained that the door came off its hinges and fell on Liza. David wanted Liza to get an MRI to make sure she did not have a brain bleed.

At the hospital, David read the results from Liza's imaging. He told her that something did not add up. He explained that she should have had more bruising and swelling, if a big door hit her. He commented that her injuries indicated she was hit by a person, not a door. She looked shocked.

Kendall was furious with Zach. She asked why he kept Liza's secret from her. He revealed that he used the secret to blackmail Liza for Kendall's sake. Kendall did not care. She believed that Zach cared for Liza. He denied Kendall's claims.

Zach fixed the door and put his sons to sleep. He then entered Kendall's room to say good night, but she was not there. He found Kendall in his bedroom. She said, "You say you love me, then prove it."

Randi danced around her apartment with Trevor in her arms. Frankie was glad to see Randi happy. She wanted to name the baby. They decided to name the baby Matthew since they found the baby at Saint Matthew's Church.

Jesse met Madison at the casino. She was irritated because she had not yet received the insurance money from Henry's death. She told Jesse to make sure she got the money. He explained that Angie called the Washington D.C. police to tell them that she made a mistake on the autopsy. Madison was not satisfied and demanded her money. Just then, Madison's father appeared.

Madison looked nervous to see her father. He explained that she needed to get a job because he was cutting her off. She retorted that her debutant training did not qualify her for many careers. Her father was uninterested in her excuses.

Jesse saw Natalia at the casino. Natalia said that she was meeting Frankie. Jesse was pleased that his children were hanging out. When Frankie arrived, Jesse gave each of his children money to gamble with.

Natalia informed Frankie that she did not find any missing child reports; however, she was determined to find the baby's parents. He urged her to give up the search. He said that the baby brought Randi back to life. Natalia was certain that they would eventually have to return the baby. Natalia feared that Randi could not handle losing another child.

Frankie saw Madison at the casino. She demanded that he give her cash or she would tell the police that Randi killed Henry.

Natalia went to see Randi. Randi was panicked because the baby would not eat or sleep. Randi thought that the baby had a fever. Natalia agreed that the baby felt warm. Randi did not know what to do.

At Wildwind, JR continued to reel from the news that he might have cancer. However, he kept the information to himself. He told Marissa that he didn't want to waste what time he had left, and then he kissed her. Marissa sensed that something was wrong. She accused JR of acting weird and talking as if everything could end in a moment. She wanted to know what was going on, but JR refused to tell her. Instead, JR admitted that he was tempted to drink.

Marissa implored JR not to succumb to the temptation. She reminded him that Little A needed his father. JR suggested that it was time for Little A to learn to stand on his own. He pointed to Marissa as an example of how a child could go on without their parents. Marissa clarified that not a day went by that she didn't think about the people who had raised her; she missed them dearly.

JR felt as if he had wasted years being angry when he could have done something more productive with his life. He also regretted holding back with Marissa just because she was Babe's sister. JR was tried of waiting for what he wanted. As JR tried to kiss her, Marissa stopped him. She pleaded with JR to trust her, but JR wasn't ready. Instead, he walked out of Wildwind.

Kendall wanted Zach to show prove his devotion by making love to her. Kendall was hurt when Zach refused to give in to her demands. Kendall resented Liza's constant presence in their home and she was upset that Liza had kissed Zach. Zach advised Kendall to get herself together; she could have killed Liza when she had clobbered her with the laptop

Kendall argued that she belonged in prison because of what had happened to Greenlee and Stuart. Zach disagreed; he insisted that Kendall belonged at home with her sons. Frustrated, Kendall wondered if Zach would ever be able to forgive her. Zach realized that Kendall referred to her affair. Rather than answer her, Zach left to check on the boys.

Kendall decided to work on her book. She made several attempts to write the scene where Zach and Liza had met at the casino. At first she tried to recreate the kiss that Zach and Liza had shared, but she wasn't satisfied with any of the versions that she had written. Ultimately, Kendall wished that Zach had rebuffed Liza by simply holding up his hand to show Liza his wedding ring.

As Kendall continued typing, she replayed various scenarios of the kiss between Zach and Liza that she had walked in on. Instead of bashing Liza over the head with the laptop, Kendall played with the idea of shooting Liza. In the end, Kendall admitted to herself that she wished that Zach had just pushed Liza away.

Later, Kendall typed a scene where Zach entered the secret room to update Kendall on Liza's injury. After Zach assured Kendall that Liza was fine, he apologized for hurting her, and admitted that he was flawed. The scene ended with Kendall and Zach happily reconciled. When Kendall looked up from her laptop, she stared at her empty bed with a sad expression.

At the hospital, David informed Liza that she had suffered a blunt force trauma to her head, which wasn't consistent with a door falling on her. David was certain that someone had struck Liza. Liza didn't know how that was possible when only she, Zach, and Ian had been in the house at the time of the accident. Liza was fairly certain that Ian hadn't happened upon her and Zach kissing and then decided to hit her on the back of the head.

David was surprised by Liza's revelation. Liza clarified that she and Zach were not having an affair. Liza claimed that she had kissed Zach on impulse, much like David had when he'd kissed her. David pointed out that Liza had responded to the kiss by slapping him. He was curious what Zach's reaction had been. Liza admitted that Zach hadn't responded to the kiss.

When David speculated that perhaps Zach had hit her, Liza denied the possibility. Later, when Zach arrived at the hospital, David confronted him. Zach suggested that David contact the police if he truly believed that Zach had assaulted Liza. When Zach entered Liza's room, he realized that she was slightly leery of him. Zach assured Liza that he had not struck her. Liza apologized for suspecting him; she blamed David for planting the seeds of doubt.

At the casino, Madison tried to blackmail Frankie for money. Madison was unapologetic as she explained that she merely wanted what she was owed. When Madison mentioned Randi, Frankie warned her not to drag his wife's name in it. Madison reminded Frankie that if Randi hadn't murdered Henry, then they wouldn't be having a discussion. Madison insisted that she needed some money to pay off some gambling debts.

Frankie didn't care about Madison's problems, which only fueled her desperation. Frankie pointed out that he was unemployed and didn't have access to a large sum of money. Madison didn't care; she suggested that he steal drugs. Frankie was offended, and his temper flared. Madison wasn't intimidated; she found his anger arousing. Frankie was disgusted by Madison's lewd proposition.

However, before Frankie could respond, his phone rang. It was Randi. She was upset because the baby was sick. As Madison stepped away, Frankie instructed Randi and Natalia to meet him at the hospital in an old wing. Frankie assured Randi that they would be able to examine and treat Matthew without drawing attention to themselves.

At the hospital, Natalia waited for her brother to arrive while Randi and Matthew hid out of sight. When a nurse stopped to ask Natalia if she was lost, Natalia managed to explain her presence in the nearly deserted wing of the hospital. Moments after the nurse walked away, Frankie approached. Natalia took him to see Randi and the baby, unaware that the nurse had remained behind to spy on Natalia.

After Frankie confirmed that Matthew had a virus, Natalia decided to go to the police station. She wanted to continue her search for the baby's parents. Natalia believed that Matthew's parents had a right to know what was going on with their child. Frankie wasn't happy about Natalia's quest, but he understood his sister's need to follow her conscience. Natalia warned Frankie that the longer Randi bonded with the baby, the harder it would be for Randi to give him up.

Jake was watching over Amanda when Tad entered her hospital room. Jake pulled Tad aside, so that they wouldn't disturb Amanda. He explained to Tad that Amanda had been heavily sedated after she had suffered some sort of meltdown in front of David. Jake admitted that Amanda might have revealed too much about Trevor in front of David. Tad was worried that David might suspect the truth.

Jake tried to attribute Amanda's outburst to some type of postpartum depression, but he wasn't certain if David had believed him. Jake wondered if it was time for them to ask the police to help search for Trevor. Tad reminded Jake that they could face possible criminal charges. Jake understood the consequences, but he didn't know what else to do.

A short time later, Liza approached the Martin brothers. She demanded to know who Stuart's real parents were. Jake ushered Liza into a nearby room and then told her that the baby's mother had requested a closed adoption. Jake assured Liza that the adoption had been legal. Liza was relieved. She then switched gears to inquire about Trevor. Jake turned to his brother when he realized that Tad must have told Liza.

Tad assured Jake that Liza could be trusted. Meanwhile, Liza was confident that Jake would find Trevor. Jake decided to check on Amanda. However, when Jake entered her room, Amanda was gone.

Amanda stumbled around the hospital corridor in a drugged state as she tried to follow the sound of a crying baby. Eventually Amanda found her way to an old wing in the hospital. When she glanced in one of the rooms, she spotted a baby in a crib. Amanda immediately recognized her son. Amanda banged on the window and tried to open the locked door in a frantic bid to get to her son. When her efforts failed, Amanda ran down the hall yelling that she had found her baby.

Moments later, Randi opened the door. When Frankie returned to the room, she told him about Amanda's reaction to the baby. Frankie attributed Amanda's strange behavior to some sort of breakdown. He suspected it was somehow tied to her baby's stillbirth. Randi felt terrible for Amanda, but she insisted that they had to leave before they were discovered with Matthew.

When Amanda found Jake, she told him that she had found Trevor. Jake and Tad were reluctant to believe Amanda, but she was adamant that her son was in the hospital. Jake decided to follow Amanda back to the room where she claimed Trevor was. When Amanda and Jake arrived at the room, Trevor was gone. Amanda broke down in tears while Jake held her. Jake worried that Amanda had been seeing things.

Scott and Adam reviewed the financial information they obtained from Zach's casinos, and determined that Zach was actually in need of the loan he procured from Adam. Scott left the room, and Adam mulled over the thought that although JR continued to say he wanted to be a part of rebuilding the family company, he was never around.

Annie, who had been silent thus far, noted that JR stayed away because of her. Adam pointed out that if JR planned to wait until Adam made a choice between the two of them, JR would be disappointed. Annie then said that they should take advantage of the loan to Zach and hold their wedding reception at the casino, since they might soon own it.

Jesse tracked Zach down at the casino to follow up on the injury report from the hospital. Zach came clean and told Jesse that Kendall had hit Liza over the head with a laptop computer. Jesse was worried that they wouldn't be able to keep Kendall out of jail, but Zach assured him that Liza saw nothing. Jesse spotted Liza over Zach's shoulder and, in more hushed tones, urged Zach to keep Liza in the dark.

Jesse left, and Liza took the opportunity to tell Zach about her plans to remove herself from Kendall's defense. She informed Zach that she'd spoken to Livia Frye about taking over, since Livia had previously defended Kendall. Zach refused the offer and said he wouldn't let Liza go. Liza tried to convince Zach that her decision was more about spending time with her son, but Zach knew it was about the kiss. Zach wanted to let it go, but Liza couldn't. Zach went on to tell her that she was the best lawyer to handle the case, and asked her to reconsider.

Gayle called David, which alarmed the doctor. Gayle assured him that their patient was fine, but that a different matter had arisen. Gayle revealed that Jake and Amanda had gone to see her and had been inquiring about a baby. Gayle confirmed that Amanda had been upset over the belief that Gayle had helped David hide the baby Amanda and David created. Gayle asked if there was anything further that she could do, and David told her to continue doing the job she had been paid to do.

Frankie told a relieved Randi that baby Matthew's fever had broken, but that things needed to change. Because the baby would have to be seen by doctors as he grew, Frankie believed that they needed to pursue a legal adoption. Randi felt that by doing so, they would risk having the baby taken away from them. Natalia's knock on the door interrupted their conversation . When Frankie opened the door, his sister asked if he and Randi were ready to leave.

Natalia started to explain the process of becoming legal parents. Randi was upset that there was a possibility the birth parents could return and reclaim their child. Frankie told her that it was unlikely, given how Matthew had been abandoned. Randi tried to regain her composure, and said that she wanted to feed the baby before they left.

Natalia and Frankie went to load the car with Matthew's belongings. In the hall, Natalia blasted Frankie for giving his wife false hope. Frankie insisted that he hadn't done anything of the sort, but Natalia reminded him that because Randi had hidden the baby away for days, there was no way the authorities would allow her to adopt Matthew. After they returned from the car, Frankie begged his sister not to take the dream of being Matthew's parents away from him or Randi. They went back into the apartment to get Randi, but quickly realized that Randi had escaped.

At the hospital, Angie told JR that she had consulted with the best doctors in the state, and they diagnosed JR with a rare form of lymphoma. She'd admitted that she hadn't treated that kind of cancer before, but said that his motivation -- a desire to see his son grow up -- was a great first step. She referred him to a doctor at Mercy Cancer Center so that JR wouldn't have to be treated in a hospital run by David. JR indicated that he needed more time to think about everything. Angie encouraged him not to take too long, and said that he should call her if he needed anything.

Annie tracked down Scott and asked if there was information about Zach's casinos that he hadn't told Adam. Scott denied the claim and said that if there was any deception on Zach's part, he hadn't seen it. Annie offered to look over the books to see if there were any discrepancies, but Scott pointed out that Annie should be consumed with wedding plans. Annie claimed to be a multitasker and said that she wanted to help out, since JR hadn't been pulling his weight.

JR arrived at the Chandler mansion and his father greeted him in the entryway . Adam launched into a critical assessment of his son's absence when it came to family business, but soon saw that there were greater things afoot. Adam and JR joined Annie and Scott in the living room. Soon, Adam fell on old habits and lashed out at his son.

Adam assumed that JR's poor shape was due to a relapse in drinking. JR told his father that he was sober, but Adam didn't believe his son. Adam said that JR was headed toward an early grave, and that Little Adam deserved better. Commentary about his son broke JR and, before he walked out of the house, JR told his father that he needed support, not criticism. Scott pointed out that something had been different about JR but he didn't know what.

Adam refused to believe that the catalyst behind JR's demeanor was something other than an alcoholic relapse. Adam insisted that as soon as the restrictions were lifted, Little Adam would be moved back into the mansion. Annie said that removing Little Adam from JR's care wouldn't be an encouragement to stop drinking. Adam was not swayed, and said that he would do whatever necessary to keep David away from Little Adam.

Angie went home and was surprised when she found Jesse there with a picnic lunch. He told her that after the hard morning she'd had at the hospital, he thought that they needed to leave their troubles behind for a while. Their thankful kisses hinted at a lunch delayed, but their intentions were thwarted when a visitor knocked on the door. Angie suggested that they ignore the insistent raps, but Jesse reluctantly released his wife and opened the door. They were both shocked to see Randi at the threshold, with a baby in her arms.

Randi told Angie and Jesse the story of how she found Matthew and the decisions she made about keeping the baby hidden. Randi explained how she'd overheard Natalia's assertion that Randi would never be allowed to adopt Matthew. Angie told Randi that she understood how it felt to believe that a baby was meant to be with a certain family, as she'd gone through the same experience with Cassandra.

Frankie and Natalia ran into the apartment, frantic over Randi. When Frankie saw his wife, his demands that she never scare him like that again were minor in comparison to his relief that Randi and the baby had been found. Jesse started to make some calls to track down any information about baby Matthew. He asked if there were any birthmarks that could be used to identify Matthew. Meanwhile, Randi apologized to Frankie for her actions. He told her that he understood, but that they needed to start making decisions together.

The Hubbard family prepared to take the baby to the station, but Randi started to have second thoughts. Angie tried to soothe her daughter-in-law and said that the process was tough. Angie encouraged Randi had to remain strong, but the closer they got to the door, the more panicked Randi became. She blurted out that if Jesse and Angie took the baby from her, she would tell everyone that she killed Henry North and that Jesse helped her cover it up. Natalia, the only person who didn't know, was shocked at the revelation.

Zach went home and relieved Rachel of her emergency babysitting stint. As soon as Rachel left, Kendall flew into the living room to talk to Zach. She asked how long they would be able to keep up their challenging living situation. Zach said that he wanted to get Kendall cleared of the murder charge s. Kendall announced her guilt again and pointed out that Liza wasn't a miracle worker who could change that. Zach then revealed that Liza wanted to be taken off the case, and Kendall was clearly relieved. She was not pleased, however, when Zach said that he couldn't let Liza go.

Kendall took his words to mean that Zach did indeed have stronger feelings for Liza than he previously admitted. Zach silenced her and said that if they got a new lawyer, the lawyer would need to interview Kendall in jail -- which was impossible. He assured Kendall that her supposed self-imposed isolation in jail would allow Zach time to reveal Annie as Stuart's murderer. Kendall was unsure of how Liza would be able to convince a jury of Annie's guilt, and Zach noted that Kendall needed to be convinced first.

Liza met up with Marissa at the hospital soon after Marissa's post-surgery checkup. Marissa said that she was cleared to go back to work, as long as she took it easy. Liza informed Marissa that there wasn't a job to return to, as she'd told Zach that she didn't want to defend Kendall any longer. Liza filled Marissa in on what had happened when she shared her feelings with Zach, and how David had tried to twist the incident with the door. Marissa suggested that continuing to defend Kendall might be best, as the temptation would be removed once Kendall was released from custody.

Liza considered Marissa's reasoning and found it to be valid enough to take her advice. She instructed Marissa to start pulling precedents that they could use in Kendall's case. They parted ways but when Liza stopped near a set of double doors to search through her purse, someone grabbed her from behind and pulled her through the doorway.

David took Liza back to Wildwind at gunpoint and demanded that she tell him everything that she knew about his son. Liza feigned innocence, but David pointed to her faked pregnancy and her previously skittish demeanor as evidence to the contrary. David pointed out that Liza had believed her son to be Amanda and David's until recently when, as David suspected, Jake told her the truth.

Liza called David crazy, and said that her increased comfort with David was because he'd claimed to be a better man and she had tried to see him differently. David didn't believe her, and demanded that she tell him the truth or face leaving baby Stuart without a mother. David forced Liza to tell him just how deeply she'd been involved, and her motivation, and was shocked to find out that Liza had been lied to until a few days before David found out.

Kendall read a book to her boys about working together toward a common goal. She told them that they all needed to remember that assertion, as it would help them accomplish anything they put their mind to. Across town, Zach paid a visit to the Chandler mansion to talk to Annie about the reception at the casino. When Adam went to fetch his bride, Scott asked Zach about a $100,000 payment Zach had made the previous month. Ever quick on his feet, Zach created an aging widow that had won big at his casino to explain the funds transfer.

Annie went down to the living room and, when she found Zach alone, she noted that the mogul wasn't there to talk about wedding details. Zach admitted that he wanted to apologize for his part in setting Annie up for Stuart's murder. He told Annie that after he accepted what Kendall had done, and saw how Annie had changed her life, he found renewed hope that things could be good for him and Kendall again someday. Then, feeling a bit too vulnerable, he told a slightly bewildered Annie that Francesca would take care of all the details for her wedding reception, and abruptly left.

Kendall napped fitfully in her sons' room and dreamed about the night of Stuart's murder. As she did, an unknown person sneaked into the room. When Kendall awoke, she was surprised at who she saw.

JR took Little Adam to the cemetery, and after they placed flowers on Babe's grave, JR took a moment to apologize for not always being the best father he could. Marissa made her presence known when she refuted JR's claim. The three agreed that it would be wonderful if Babe could return to them. Marissa then told Little Adam that he was still lucky, because JR was a great father who would be with Little Adam forever.
