Angelina Jolie was born to well-known parents. Her father, Jon Voight, is an award-winning American actor known for his performances in films like Midnight Cowboy (1969) and Coming Home (1978). He won an Academy Award for his acting and is well-respected in Hollywood. Angelina's mother, Marcheline Bertrand, was also an American actress. She only did a few projects, and after marriage, she dedicated most of her life to raising her children. Marcheline and Jon married on December 12, 1971, and got divorced in 1980 because he was cheating on her publicly.

Angelina has spoken openly about her complicated relationship with her father. Her father also made some controversial statements about her but he claims that he still loves her. In one of the interviews with Variety, he said, “I love my daughter — that’s No. 1. I am happy when Angie is happy. When she’s having a tough time, I’m having a tough time. When she is down, I’m down."

She was raised mostly by her mother, who supported her dreams of becoming an actress. Marcheline encouraged Angelina to pursue her passion and was a big influence on her life. Marcheline passed away in 2007 due to cancer, and Angelina has often talked about how much she misses her mother. During an interview with 60 Minutes in 2011, she talked about her mother and said, "A great listener, and a great friend — she was my best friend — and so I could talk to her about everything."

Angelina Jolie is a proud mother of 6 kids—three of them are adopted, and three are biological. Angelina Jolie became a mother in 2002 when she adopted Maddox from Cambodia. Three years later in 2005, Jolie adopted Zahara from Ethiopia. In 2006, Brad and Angelina announced the pregnancy, and in May, she gave birth to Shiloh.

A year later in 2007, she visited Vietnam where she ended up adopting Pax. Pax was just three years old when Angelina Jolie adopted him. On July 12, 2008, Angelina gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl. The couple named the boy Knox, after Brad Pitt's grandfather. They named the girl Vivienne Marcheline. She was named after Angelina’s mother, who passed away in 2007.

Angelina has always been open about how much she loves being a mother. She has made sure that her children learn about their different cultural backgrounds and stay connected to their roots. In 2023, in an interview with Vogue, she talked about her relationship with her kids. She said, “I was 26 when I became a mother,” she added, “My entire life changed. Having children saved me — and taught me to be in this world differently. I think, recently, I would’ve gone under in a much darker way had I not wanted to live for them."
