She made her debut as an actor in 2015 while still studying at Emory University, balancing acting, being a full-time college student, and a part-time job as well. Her first role came in 2015 in Lone Wolf Mason, a short. Prior to that, she acted in two PSAs, and post that, she earned a role in the 2018 Netflix film Candy Jar.
She also earned her first role on television a year later in the superhero television series Raising Dion before she earned her breakthrough role in 2021 in Ginny and Georgia. That role came the same week that she graduated from Emory, for which Gentry was nominated for an MTV Movie & TV Award in the category Best Breakthrough Performance. Since then, she has also starred in the Hulu film Prom Dates in 2024 as well as the Netflix film Time Cut in the same year.
