Cast of Wicked

The 2024 American musical fantasy film Wicked was written and directed by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox. It is the first part of a two-part film adaptation of Stephen Schwartz and Holzman's stage musical of the same name, which was based in part on the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel, and a reworking of the Oz novels.

The story revolves around the friendship between Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, and her classmate Galinda, who later transforms into Glinda the Good. It is set in the Land of Oz before Dorothy Gale arrives from Kansas.

The American singer, actress, and songwriter Ariana Grande portrays Galinda "Glinda" Upland in the film. Grande, a major music influencer and pop queen, is renowned for her four-octave vocal range that reaches into the whistling register.

Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp

The British actress and singer Cynthia Erivo portrays Elphaba Thropp in the film. A misunderstood young woman with green skin from birth, Thropp goes on to become the Wicked Witch of the West. Karis Musongole portrays young Elphaba.

Cynthia Erivo has won several honors, including a Tony Award, a Grammy Award, a Daytime Emmy Award, and nominations for four Golden Globes and three Academy Awards. She is among the select few performers nominated for the EGOT.
