His mother, English teacher Lydia Robinson "Robin" (Rouse), passed away in 1997 due to a brain tumor. James Rouse, Norton's maternal grandfather, co-founded the real estate company Enterprise Community Partners and founded The Rouse Company. He has two siblings named James and Molly. Norton's love for theater began when he was five years old and his parents took him to the Columbia Center for Theatrical Arts (CCTA) to attend a Cinderella-themed musical that included his babysitter.
