Guy Pearce was raised in Victoria, Australia by his parents, Stuart Pearce and Anne Cocking. His father, Stuart, was a test pilot for the Royal Air Force. His job was to fly aircraft to test their safety and performance. Unfortunately, his family had to face tragedy in 1976 when his father died in a plane crash. Guy was only eight years old at the time, and the loss had a big impact on him. In an interview with MailOnline in 2008, Guy said, “Dad's death probably made me afraid of any unpredictability in my life.” He added: “Of course, life contains nothing but unpredictability, and so, as a kid, my nerves were jangling constantly and I operated on this incredibly high frequency all the time. It was hard being around people; I just wanted to close the door on them.”

Anne Cocking was a schoolteacher and a talented pianist. She worked hard to provide for her family after her husband’s passing. Pearce has often spoken about his admiration for his mother’s strength. She not only took care of him but also dedicated much of her life to caring for his older sister, Tracy. In 2010 his mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and died on August 22, 2023. Guy shared his mother’s death news on his X and wrote, "Lost my beautiful Mum today. 'Kicked the bucket' as she would say. What a sharp, fierce & witty woman Anne was, until Alzheimer's struck in 2010. It's been a long & winding road. A fitting song 4 ur departure Mum. Tracy & I will miss u enormously. We'll always love u XX"

Tracy is Guy’s elder sister she was born with an intellectual disability, she needed extra support and care throughout her life. Pearce has described how his sister gave him perspective. He learned patience, kindness, and the importance of family. In an interview with The Observer Magazine, he said, "I like to think I have empathy. Growing up with a sibling with special needs opened my eyes to things. You think differently when you see how she struggles with the world and the care she needs."

Guy Pearce was in a long-term relationship with his childhood sweetheart, Kate Mestitz. In 1997, they got married and spent nearly 20 years together. Kate is a psychologist and both of them kept their marriage life private. However, in 2015, after 18 years of marriage, Pearce and Mestitz decided to separate. In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, after divorce he said, “Kate and I will always love and support one another and be the best of friends." He even said in an interview with The Guardian “My ex-wife, Kate, was the greatest love of my life, but I’ve moved on from her now and the greatest love of my life is my child, Monte.”

Following his divorce, Pearce began a relationship with Dutch actress Carice Van Houten. Van Houten is known for her role as Melisandre in the popular show Game of Thrones. In 2016, the couple welcomed their son, Monte. Later, the couple broke up, and Carice shared the news on her Instagram. She wrote, “He and I are great friends and love each other very much, but we haven’t been a ‘couple’ for years. (Sorry not to mention it earlier.) I am, however, very proud to say we are in a wonderful partnership raising the true love of our lives — our beautiful son and his hamster. The end.”

Guy Pearce has spoken about how much he enjoys fatherhood and how Monte has brought immense joy into his life. He shared with The Guardian, “I don’t know how it’s changed me yet, other than focusing on him and being completely in love with him.” He added, “It might teach me to be more patient, but it still feels relatively new. I’m still getting my brain into believing it’s actually happening. My heart’s there, completely and utterly, but my brain is still steering the ship around.”
