As of 2024, Tom Cruise has been restricted from talking about anything related to Scientology, but it is believed though not proven that the actor is still a part of the Church of Scientology as of 2024.

Tom Cruise is an American actor and producer famous for his blockbuster movies and for doing most of his own stunts. The actor has been active in Hollywood since 1980 starring in various hit movies like The Outsiders (1983), Legend (1985), Top Gun (1986), and seven movies under the Mission: Impossible franchise (1996-2023), among many others.

Tom Cruise was raised in near poverty and had a Catholic upbringing with electrical engineer Thomas Cruise Mapother III and special education teacher Mary Lee. In 1980 his parents split and Tom moved with his mother to the United States where Mary tied the knot with Jack South. The actor was supported by his stepfather in his quest to become the successful actor he is in 2024.

Is Tom Cruise still a Scientologist?

Recently, Tom Cruise refrained from speaking about Scientology or whether he still follows the practices. However, Tom Cruise has been a healthy advocate of the Church of Scientology. The actor’s activities with the organization were leaked back in 1990, by the tabloid Star, and later in 1992, the actor publicly announced that he was following Scientology during an interview with Barbara Walters. It was back in 1986 when Cruise was converted to Scientology by his then-wife Mimi Rogers.

During his interview with Barbra Walters, Tom Cruise revealed that his study of Scientology and Study Technology, in particular, helped him overcome his issue with dyslexia. During his time in the Church of Scientology, Tom had made a close connection with the Scientology leader David Miscavige and has been friends with him since the 1980s. Around the time after the events of 9/11, Tom had raised donations for Downtown Medical to offer New York City rescue workers "detoxification therapy". For his work and dedication to the service, Tom was rewarded with the Scientology Freedom Medal of Valor in 2004.
