Actor and producer Thomas Cruise Mapother IV was born in the United States on July 3, 1962. Dubbed a Hollywood legend, he has received three Golden Globes, an Honorary Palme d'Or, and has been nominated for four Academy Awards. He is one of the highest-grossing actors of all time, with his films making over $12 billion worldwide. He is consistently among the highest-paid actors in the world and is one of Hollywood's most bankable stars. With his mother and stepfather's blessing, Cruise moved to New York City at eighteen to pursue a career in acting.


Cruise made his acting debut in Top Gun (1986) and Risky Business (1983), having started in the early 1980s. After that, he made a name for himself in action and science fiction movies, frequently carrying out daring stunts. Since 1996, he has portrayed the fictional agent Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible movie series.
