Jack Black is an American actor, comedian, and musician. He was born on August 28, 1969, in Santa Monica, California, United States. Black gained popularity for his roles in comedy films and his work as the lead vocalist of the rock duo Tenacious D. Black started his acting career at the age of 13 with a TV ad for a video game. He made his TV debut with a minor appearance in the show The Fall Guy in 1984. Jack Black made his film debut with the film Bob Roberts in 1992. He got his breakthrough with the film High Fidelity in 2000, where he played the role of Barry Judd, a sarcastic record store employee. He gained further popularity with the films Shallow Hal (2001) and School of Rock (2003). Apart from that, he has been part of many films like King Kong (2005), Nacho Libre (2006), Tropic Thunder (2008), Gulliver’s Travels (2010), Bernie (2011), Goosebumps (2015), Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), etc. He has also worked as a voice actor in DreamWorks’ Kung Fu Panda franchise (2008–present), one of his most successful projects.

Jack Black’s upcoming projects

Jack Black has few upcoming projects in 2025. He will be playing the role of Steve in the upcoming fantasy adventure film A Minecraft Movie, set to be released in theaters on April 4, 2025. Alongside Black, the cast of the film also includes Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Coolidge, and others. Apart from acting, he also collaborated with Dave Grohl on a song called I Feel Alive for the film.

There were some questions about Jack Black's casting as Steve in the film, but in an interview with Variety, Mojang executive Torfi Frans Ólafsson defended the decision. He said, “His character was originally a talking pig, and it was very, very, very late in the development where we had the idea to switch it to become Steve, because we needed an expert and host. This is not my Steve or your Steve — this is Jack Black’s Steve. A lot of fans responded when they saw the first teasers and trailers, like, ‘Hey, wait a minute — this is just Jack Black. This isn’t Jack Black being someone else.’ And maybe it is, because this is literally him interpreting this character and what it means to him.”

Apart from A Minecraft Movie, he will also be seen in the upcoming horror-comedy film Anaconda, where he will play the role of Doug McCallister alongside Paul Rudd. The film is a new take on the 1997 film directed by Luis Llosa, which starred Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube. It is set to be released in theatres on December 25, 2025.
