American actress Mikaela Madison Rosberg, better known as Mikey Madison, began her acting career with short films. She gained recognition for portraying a depressing teenager in the comedy series Better Things on FX (2016–2022).


Madison went on to appear as Amber Freeman in the horror movie Scream (2022) and Susan Atkins in Quentin Tarantino's comedy-drama Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019). She became famous for her performance as the title character of a prostitute in Sean Baker's 2024 film Anora, for which she won the Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Actress.

Mikey Madison’s early career


Madison debuted as an actress in the short films Pani's Box and Retirement in 2013. Her debut feature film, Liza, Liza, Skies Are Grey, was filmed in 2014 after she starred in the short film Bound for Greatness. It was not released until 2017.

Madison began portraying the lead character of a sulky teenager named Max Fox in the 2016 season of the FX comedy-drama series Better Things, which was created by Louis C.K. and Pamela Adlon and aired until 2022. She featured as a guest star in the Bravo dark comedy series Imposters from 2017 to 2018. She also appeared in the drama movies Monster and Nostalgia in 2018.


Mikey Madison’s career breakthrough


Madison appeared in a supporting role in the Lady in the Lake miniseries in 2024.


Sean Baker cast her as the title dancer and prostitute in the romantic drama film Anora. She did her stunts, including two combat scenes, and learnt Russian for the role. The film received positive reviews and won the Palme d'Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. With a $6 million budget, it made over $30 million globally, making it a commercial triumph.


Madison was nominated for a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for Best Actress, and her performance earned her the Academy Award and the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
