Robert Pattinson was born on May 13, 1986, in London, England. He is the youngest of three children born to Richard Pattinson, a vintage vehicle dealer, and Clare Pattinson, a booker at a modeling agency. Robert and his older sisters, Victoria and Elizabeth, were raised in Barnes, England. Pattinson began studying the piano and guitar when he was four years old. At the age of twelve, he was expelled from Tower House School. He sold porn magazines to his peers after stealing them, which led to his dismissal. He attended and completed his education at The Harrodian School.


His father urged him to join the Barnes Theatre Company because he was a shy child. He got his first job in "Guys and Dolls" when he was fifteen years old. There were no lines for his Cuban dancer role. He was chosen to play George Gibbs in the theater company's upcoming production of "Our Town." Additionally, he made appearances in the plays "Anything Goes," "Macbeth," and "Tess of the d'Urbervilles."

His earlier film roles included cameos in "Vanity Fair" and "Ring of the Nibelungs." As Cedric Diggory he appeared in the 2005 movie "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." The Times named him that year's British Star of Tomorrow for this role. Pattinson learned scuba diving skills in preparation for the part of Cedric Diggory.

For the later Twilight films, he received a base pay of $25 million. He received a large portion of the backend profits from the last two Twilight films. With these bonuses, he was paid $40 million for each film. According to Vanity Fair's "Hollywood Top 40," Pattinson made $27.5 million in 2010. Pattinson made $3 million playing the title character in "The Batman.
