What did Marilyn Manson do​?

The American rock musician Brian Hugh Warner, better known as Marilyn Manson, had been accused of sexual harassment back in February 2021 by the 'Westworld' star Evan Rachel Wood.

The well-known celebrity, who has been accused by numerous women of being a violent sexual predator, is the subject of the full documentary: Marilyn Manson: Unmasked, in which multiple women claim that he has the fame, wealth, and ability to do whatever he wants to as many young women as he wants without worrying about the consequences. The three-part documentary Marilyn Manson: Unmasked is a carefully put-together overview of the shock-rock artist's career and the alleged backstage activities.

Marilyn Manson’s abuse allegations

Marilyn Manson has long been a person of debate. In the 1990s, his rock music was criticized for encouraging Satanism, demeaning women, and instigating violence. Some even held him accountable for the 1999 Columbine High School shooting. When his ex-girlfriend, Westworld actor Evan Rachel Wood, accused Manson of sexually and psychologically abusing her in 2021, his career took a particularly dark turn.

Since then, the musician has been accused of similar crimes by over a dozen more women. Arguing that his "intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners," Manson has repeatedly denied sexually assaulting or abusing anyone. Marilyn Manson: Unmasked docuseries

The show follows what has unfortunately grown into the standard path of speaking with the accused's friends and associates, including testimonies from his alleged victims, and letting the audience's perspective evolve. The series is currently available to stream on Prime Video and Apple TV.

Beyond outlining the chronology and testimonies that must serve as the foundation for this type of documentary, Marilyn Manson: Unmasked raises the question of how capable people should have been of differentiating between a man concealing horrible tendencies in plain sight and performative transgressions intended to shock (and build the notoriety upon which his career depended).

The most well-known accuser of Manson is Evan Rachel Wood, a former lover who is currently a television and film star. She recounted years of horrifying torture at the hands of a boyfriend, whom she eventually identified as Manson, during a 2018 congressional hearing on a domestic violence prevention bill.

Lawsuits against the musician grew as a result of it, inspiring other women to share similar experiences. Fans say Wood is planning a campaign of falsehoods against him and encouraging other women to follow suit. Wood questions if that is more likely than the idea that “a bad person has been doing bad things for a really long time”.
