The How to Train Your Dragon franchise is a series of animated action-fantasy films produced by DreamWorks Animation. The franchise has three main movies - namely How to Train Your Dragon (2010), How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014), and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019). Directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, the series uncovers the journey of Hiccup, a young Viking, and his dragon, Toothless, as they reshape the relationship between humans and dragons in the Viking village of Berk.

Who is Hiccup in How To Train Your Dragon?

Hiccup is the main character throughout all the How to Train Your Dragon movies. With the birth name of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, the character was the son of Stoick the Vast, thus making him the heir, and later, the chief of the tribe. Being a Viking, Hiccup was quite different from all the others. He lacked in having a huge physique and massive strength like his father, but he made up for it with his smartness. While the rest of the village always treated him like a nuisance, Hiccup always wanted to prove his worth by killing a dragon and earning everyone’s respect.

Things turned upside down when Hiccup ran into Toothless, a Nightfury dragon species that he accidentally shot down with his catapult. While he tries to kill the beast initially, Hiccup realizes the purity of a dragon's heart and befriends Toothless. Riding on a dragon earned him the title of Dragon Rider and gradually, Hiccup turned Berk into a dragon-loving village. Hiccup took his father's position as chief of the village after the latter passed away during the events of the 3rd movie.
