GENERAL HOSPITAL’S BEST OF THE WEEK

MOMENTS

Carly & Lulu’s conversation at the Metro Court
It seems like everyone and their dog has been telling Lulu she should accept that Britt & Liesl changed while she was in a coma, and they weren't all bad. As Carly was echoing the same message, Lulu reminded her about some of what was actually taken from her and what she feared could still happen. “She carried him for nine months”, she said about Britt. “She gave birth to him, took care of him. For all I know, she nursed him. Britt stole that connection from me. And I am terrified, Carly. I am terrified she could steal so much more.”
Alexa Havins killed this scene! Her controlled emotion while tears welled in her eyes, conveyed, not just the anger, but also the hurt and fear Lulu is feeling in this absurd situation. This moment led me to recall a quote from The Kite Runner, “There is only one sin, only one. And that is theft. Every other sin is a variation of theft.” Britt and Liesl not only stole Lulu and Dante’s embryo, but they also stole their only chance at experiencing pregnancy and seven months or so of Rocco’s life as a newborn and infant. Further, they stole trust and feelings of safety. I thoroughly enjoy the characters of Britt and, especially, Liesl, but I still contend their past actions should not be so easily swept aside by everyone.
SCENES

Liesl meets with Dante, Lulu, and Laura
Oof…thankfully, no physical weapons were brought to this fight because IT DID NOT GO well. It began calmly enough with Liesl saying she wanted to speak civilly and Dante and Lulu keeping a lid on their emotions, but it quickly went south as Liesl’s skewed perspective of the situation began to reveal itself.
The not-kinder, not-gentler version of Liesl emerged as she dispensed parenting advice, claimed she was Rocco’s grandmother just like Laura, and claimed Britt was just as much Rocco’s mother as Lulu was. So much of what Dante and Lulu had been fearing was laid bare in front of them. Laura seemed surprised when her attempts at mediation went off the rails and unsuccessfully scrambled to get it back. Lulu kept her cool, but it was Dante who couldn’t take it anymore.
He reminded Liesl that she and Britt were criminals, and said Liesl was actually something way worse. When he recounted how she used mind control to try to make him her personal assassin, she dismissed it as ancient history. He vowed to hunt down every warrant that ever had her name associated with it and use them to throw her in a jail cell unless she decided to skip town before he got the chance. She asked how he would tell his son that he put his grandmother, the only person with the answers he sought, in a jail cell. All of this, and they don’t even know Britt is alive yet!
Anna & Liesl’s conversation on the docks
Anna and Liesl had an unexpectedly deep conversation on the docks. Liesl, who is being selectively contrite about her past transgressions, seemed to genuinely regret some of what she’d put Anna through. Their talk of grief and regrets was poignant and signaled greater moral development in Liesl.
Kathleen Gati is so good with the comic bits, but it’s always nice to see her flex her dramatic muscle as well. Liesl’s grief over the loss of Britt and the loss of the relationship she could have had with her was palpable and gave fuel as to why she is starting to fixate on Rocco.
Brennan & Anna argue at the WSB
After being kidnapped by him, Anna masterfully got under Brennan’s skin during their argument. Things are getting dangerously close to unraveling for the normally calm, cool, & collected Brennan, and it seems to be only a matter of time before Joss’ cover is blown.
Finola Hughes and Chris McKenna have fantastic chemistry. The way they banter, argue, and take each other to task makes their contentious relationship feel authentic. Hughes adds numerous subtleties and quirks in her performances that make Anna’s character feel so well fleshed out.
NOTABLES

Grandmas and Grandpas
It's occurred to me that there are a lot of grandmas and grandpas on General Hospital…Laura, Sonny (Maurice Benard), Carly, Anna, Tracy, Lois (Rena Sofer), Olivia, Ned, Mac (John J. York), Felicia, Alexis, Nina, Robert, and Holly. Kudos to GH for not dismissing characters as they age and relegating them to watered-down versions of their original selves. Many of these characters continue to be as complex, if not more, than they’ve ever been and are still the movers and shakers in Port Charles.
QUOTABLES

Gio: “Look, they’re on paw-trol.” Anna: “No, no, no.” - Anna had to take Outback to work with her when Gio & Emma couldn't watch her.
“I always make time for my extortionists.” - Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) to Ava at her law office
“You could end up with a record, and trust me, that’s not as glamorous as you think it is.” - Emma trying to dissuade Gio from wanting to break into Dalton’s lab for her
Anna: “Empathy can be merciless when you don’t expect it.” Liesl: “And sudden kindness can be cruelly rewarded.” - Anna & Liesl having an unexpected heart-to-heart on the docks
Cody: “I don’t do gallantry.” Kristina: “How about for an extra $10,000?” Cody: “Okay. Done.” - Cody, needing extra incentive to carry-on with the Ava seduction scheme
“Ava has never met a martini she didn’t want to swim in.” - Kristina giving advice to Cody
“She can be really stubborn…she totally gets that from her dad.” - Carly talking about Josslyn to Brennan
“Oh good, it’s just you…“You know in the future, a phone call works just as well as abduction.” - Anna to Brennan after finding out he was the one who kidnapped her
“You’ll have to forgive me if I don’t take advice from a man who lives in a faux medieval fortress and associates with Lucy Coe.” - Tracy rebuffing Sidwell’s advice
“Alright, well there you go. As if I needed any more proof of your Olympian generosity of spirit.” - Martin responding to Stella telling him she was good friends with Tracy Quartermaine
“I’m writing the next great American novel. What does it look like I’m doing?” - Britt to Pascal as she was sunbathing at the Five Poppies Resort
FASHION

Shout out to the wardrobe department for so many fashion hits this week!
Elizabeth’s Floral Twist Front Maxi Dress by Aqua - Perfect summer dress & love the pale lilac color on her
Kristina’s striped culottes with silk black tank - Super cute, but I wanted to see it with different shoes and a different purse
Ava’s Willa Shirt and Maeve Skirt in Lisboa Lemon Meringue by Alice + Olivia - This can be a difficult look & color to pull off, but it’s fabulous on Ava.
Portia’s Harland Crossover Halter Midi Dress in Mauve by RACHEL Rachel Roy - Looks insanely good on her
Lucy’s Regatta Blue Foldover-Neck Sheath Dress by Calvin Klein - Great color & fit. Lucy (Lynn Herring) always wears clothes extremely well

Tracy’s navy blue coordinating outfit - I couldn’t find info on this outfit, but the color, draped cowl neck top, and longline jacket looked classic on Tracy.
Tracy’s Linen Blend Notch Lapel Collar Long Sleeve Metal Snap Front Jacket by Donna Karan - Love the length, love the coral color, love the metal snap
Maxie’s (Kirsten Strorms) Daydream Doodles Embroidered Blazer by Cinq a Sept - Cute & quirky
Felicia’s Paulina Isle of Capri Silk Printed Dress by Elie Tahari - Vibrant mix of color blocking and patterns and I’m always a fan of barrel cuffs

Anna’s Cierra Cut Away Bootie (heels) by Pour la Victoire - I die for these
Ava’s Derek One-Piece Grey Metallic Swimsuit by Unique Vintage & Layered Shell Earrings by Banana Republic - This, along with her ice cube demonstration, is giving me Studio 54 at the pool vibes
Trina’s Bikini with cream macrame swim cover up & grapefruit tote - I’m here for the macrame swim cover up
Britt’s Play Crochet Plunge-Neck One-Piece Swimsuit in Aubergine by Becca - The whole outfit looks great on Britt and I have a disproportionate amount of love for aubergine
Alexis’ Stitch Double-Breasted Blazer by Elie Tahari - Tahari’s tailored silhouette looks fabulous on Alexis, but it’s the details that caught my eye…the styling of the black collared shirt underneath, the distinctive collar of the blazer as well as the oversized black stitching and black buttons really elevated this into one of Alexis’ best looks in recent memory.
MUSINGS

Things that made me chuckle this week:
Liesl’s #1 foam finger at the softball game
Anna’s kidnapper’s hood was sparkly.
So many people do bad things they never get arrested for on GH, yet Emma has a criminal record for breaking-and-entering.
Martin’s post-physical therapy dance
Kate Mansi and Josh Kelly
Ava’s 9 ½ Weeks ice cube moment at the pool
Other randoms:
Notice the etched glasses at the Metro Court restaurant? You know you could buy them and other General Hospital merch at shopabctv.com ?
Chase and Willow are more alike than I realized…they present as super sweet, but are also quite judgmental, short-sighted, and oddly entitled.
Sonny really has the Kavorka when it comes to District Attorneys.
Lucas is staying with Ava now, so apparently, he’s still alright looking the other way for her transgressions.
Lucky, Aiden, and Jake’s Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego summer trip sounds A-mazing!
They should figure out a way to make Drew a fun villain because I think fans are beyond exhausted.
