Who is the man behind Pikeman Security Group, the shadowy group of mercenaries moving illegal arms through Port Charles? General Hospital viewers have been pondering that question for months as Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) has faced mounting trouble because of his reluctant alliance with the organization. There's been one -- possibly two -- attempts on Sonny's life, and he came under the scrutiny of the federal government when his ex-wife Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) and her lover Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) landed in hot water over insider trading.
Enter Charles Mesure as an enigmatic stranger with a charming Australian accent who strolled into Kelly's and set off a firestorm of questions from viewers. Almost immediately, social media was filled with speculation about Mr. Brennan. There were those who saw sparks of chemistry between Carly and the handsome customer who was impressed with Kelly's burgers, but that was quickly pushed to the wayside when Pikeman emissary Roman Hume (Mark Englehardt) approached the mysterious Mr. Brennan. Could the sly silver fox in sheep's clothing be Pikeman himself?
On Tuesday, December 5, GH provided some much-needed answers. It turns out that Hume works for Brennan -- the new Director of the WSB! Not only that, but the Director is in league with Pikeman because Pikeman is moving illegal arms for the WSB. It was also revealed that Brennan has two missions: setting up operations for Pikeman to ship merchandise to Canada for international distribution and neutralizing Anna as a threat because she unwittingly has damaging evidence on Brennan, who wants his secrets to stay buried.
Two major storylines have converged. Could there be more? There's been quite a bit of chatter online about Michael Corinthos' (Chad Duell) mystery contact at the SEC and the possibility that Lorenzo Alcazar (Ted King) might be the man behind Pikeman.
If Charles Mesure looks familiar to viewers, there's a good reason for that. The British-born Australian actor might be new to daytime television, but he has appeared in several popular primetime television series such as The Magicians, Once Upon a Time, Desperate Housewives, and V. Additionally, he's appeared on numerous crime shows like The Mentalist, Castle, Criminal Minds, and Blue Bloods.
How long Mesure will be sticking around remains to be seen, but things didn't end well for the last WSB director who had corrupt intentions. Victor Cassadine's (Charles Shaughnessy) tenure ended with a bang when Victor managed to escape justice by using the explosion at the Crichton-Clark Clinic to fake his death. He resurfaced years later to stir up trouble once again, but he was vanquished in Greenland earlier this year. Is GH ushering in a new era where the WSB is the boogeyman, or will Sonny and Anna be able to join forces and restore world order by sending Director Brennan packing?
