The upcoming American action thriller film Ballerina (marketed as From the World of John Wick: Ballerina) is the fifth addition to the John Wick franchise. It is a spin-off film set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023). The film is directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatten.


It will feature Ana de Armas as the main lead alongside Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus in supporting roles. Ian McShane, Keanu Reeves, Anjelica Huston, and Lance Reddick (in his last movie appearance) all return to their previous roles.

The Cuban and Spanish actress Ana Celia de Armas Caso, better known as Ana de Armas, is playing the lead role of Eve Macarro in the film. Macarro is a ballerina who is starting to train in the Ruska Roma's assassin customs. Victoria Comte will play the young Eve Macarro.


De Armas gained popularity for her performance as holographic AI Joi in the science fiction film Blade Runner 2049 (2017) and nurse Marta Cabrera in the mystery film Knives Out (2019).


Keanu Reeves as John Wick

The Canadian actor Keanu Reeves will appear as John Wick, the titular character of the John Wick franchise. John Wick is a legendary assassin and professional hitman who is evading the High Table and has earned a reputation for his abilities.


Known for his major roles in action films, his friendly public persona, and charitable endeavours, he has received various awards during his four-decade career on screen. Time magazine titled him one of the 100 most influential persons in the world in 2022, whereas The New York Times titled him the fourth-greatest actor of the twenty-first century in 2020.


Anjelica Huston as The Director

The American actress, director, and model Anjelica Huston will appear as The Director, a heavily jeweled Russian ballet instructor in the film. The actress is reprising her role from John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019).


Anjelica Huston has won numerous honours, including an Academy Award and a Golden Globe, and has been nominated for six Primetime Emmy Awards and three British Academy Film Awards. She was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010.


Gabriel Byrne as the Chancellor

The Irish actor Gabriel James Byrne, better known as Gabriel Byrne, is playing the villainous role of The Chancellor, who leads a town against Eve in the story.


Byrne is a renowned actor who has won several major awards and honors for his contribution to the entertainment industry. He has won a Golden Globe award, besides having nominations for Primetime Emmy Awards and other notable honors. In 2018, Byrne received the Irish Film and Television Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2020, The Irish Times ranked Byrne as the 17th best actor in Irish cinema. The Guardian titled him one of the greatest performers who were never nominated for an Academy Award in 2009.


Lance Reddick as Charon

The late American actor Lance Solomon Reddick is reprising his role as Charon in the film. He works as a concierge at the Continental Hotel in New York, is acquainted with John Wick, and is a friend of Winston Scott. This marked both Reddick's last on-screen role as Charon and his final posthumous appearance overall.


Reddick has played Cedric Daniels in The Wire (2002–2008), Phillip Broyles in Fringe (2008–2013), and Chief Irvin Irving in Bosch (2014–2020). He also played General Caulfield in the film White House Down (2013).


Reddick passed away suddenly at the age of 60 on March 17, 2023, at his home in Studio City, Los Angeles, from what the coroner concluded to be atherosclerotic heart disease and coronary artery disease.


Norman Reedus as Daniel Pine

The American actor Norman Reedus is playing Daniel Pine in the film. Known for his role in The Walking Dead series as Daryl Dixon, Reedus’ character in the film is supposedly that of a mysterious man.


After starring as Murphy MacManus in The Boondock Saints in the 1990s, he went on to play supporting roles in the highly successful box office movies Blade II, American Gangster, and 8MM. Reedus is recognised for playing Daryl Dixon in the famous horror drama series The Walking Dead on AMC from 2010 to 2022.


Ian McShane as Winston Scott

The English actor Ian David McShane is reprising his role as Winston Scott in the film. The actor has appeared in all previous films of the John Wick franchise, portraying Scott, John Wick's acquaintance and the intriguing owner of the Continental Hotel.


McShane was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Drama for the first Deadwood series. He received a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Television Movie for his work as the film's producer.


He also appeared in the BBC series Lovejoy (1986–1994), as Al Swearengen in Deadwood (2004–2006) and its 2019 film continuation, and as Mr. Wednesday in American Gods (2017–2021).
