American actor, singer, and songwriter Anthony Ramos Martinez is known for originating the dual roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in the Broadway musical Hamilton (2015). He initially pursued baseball before discovering a passion for musical theater while in high school. He earned a scholarship to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and graduated from the institution in 2011.

Afterwards, he performed in regional productions such as Grease and Damn Yankees. Ramos’s collaboration with Lin-Manuel Miranda began when he performed in the lead role of Justin Laboy in Miranda’s short musical 21 Chump Street (2014). He also appeared in Miranda’s In the Heights film adaptation (2021) as Usnavi. Ramos’ film credits also include White Girl (2016) and A Star Is Born (2018). In 2021, he received a Primetime Emmy nomination for his performance in the filmed live stage recording of Hamilton.

In 2018, he played Frankie Espinoza in the romantic drama Summer Days, Summer Nights. Ramos also portrayed Ramon, Ally’s (Lady Gaga) steadfast best friend in the Oscar-winning A Star is Born (2018). In 2022, he voiced Mr. Piranha in The Bad Guys, and will return to his role in the upcoming The Bad Guys 2 (2025).

Anthony Ramos’ television journey started with the romantic comedy series Younger (2015), where he appeared as Julio. In 2016, he took on the role of Juan in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and in 2017-2018, he portrayed Tony in Will & Grace. He played the lead role of Mars Blackmon in She’s Gotta Have It (2017-2019), based on Spike Lee’s 1986 film of the same name. He also took on the role of Yorkie in Blindspotting (2021) and Eladio in In Treatment (2021).
