Penn Badgley is an American actor and musician, born on November 1, 1986, in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. He later moved to California to pursue acting at the age of 9. He started his acting career in 1999 and has been in the entertainment industry for more than 20 years. Over time, he has built a strong fanbase because of his work in popular shows like Gossip Girl and You.


Badgley has worked on both commercial and independent projects. Apart from acting, Badgley is also a musician and the lead vocalist of the indie band MOTHXR. They released their debut album, Centerfold, on February 26, 2016. He also launched his podcast called Podcrushed on May 18, 2022, alongside Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari. Penn Badgley made his film debut with the film The Fluffer in 2001. He began gaining attention in cinema with roles in teen films like John Tucker Must Die (2006), where he played Scott Tucker. In 2009, he played Michael Harding in the psychological thriller film The Stepfather. In 2010, he starred in the hit teen comedy film Easy A, where he played the role of Todd.


In 2011, he played the role of Seth Bregman in the critically acclaimed film Margin Call. In 2012, he starred in the film Greetings from Tim Buckley, where he played the role of musician Jeff Buckley. Apart from that, he has also worked in films like Parts per Billion (2014), The Paper Store (2016), Here Today (2021), The Birthday Cake (2021), etc.

Badgley made his TV debut with a minor appearance in the show Will & Grace in 1999. He first gained recognition for his role as Phillip Chancellor in the show The Young and the Restless (2000-2001). In 2007, he joined the cast of the hit show Gossip Girl (2007–2012), where he played Dan Humphrey. He gained international popularity for his role in the show and became a fan-favorite character over the years.


In 2018, he made a major comeback on TV with the hit psychological thriller show You (2018–present). He received international popularity and praise for his role as Joe Goldberg in the show. He also received many nominations from award shows like the MTV Movie & TV Awards, Saturn Awards, and Astra Awards.
