Hall’s television debut was in 1999 in the romantic-drama series “As the World Turns,” where he played Jerry Klein. However, it was his role in “Six Feet Under (2001-2005)” that was a major turning point in his career. His character, David Fisher, is a funeral director who is also grappling with his sexual identity. The show followed the operations of a family-run mortuary after the sudden death of its patriarch. His performance earned him an Emmy nomination. His next major role on television was in “Dexter (2006-2013),” where he starred as the title character, Dexter Morgan. The role of the blood-splatter analyst with Miami Police who leads a secret life as a vigilante killer, allowed him to explore a character detached from typical human emotions. He reprised his role in “Dexter: New Blood (2021-2022) and also in “Dexter: Original Sin (2024-2025).”
