Ricky Gervais is a popular British comedian, actor, writer, and director, born on June 25, 1961, in Reading, Berkshire, England. Gervais initially pursued a career in music before turning to comedy and TV. He started his acting career in 1999 and has been working in the entertainment industry for more than 20 years. He gained international popularity with the original UK version of The Office (2001–2003), which he co-created and starred in as David Brent.


Gervais is known for bold, controversial, and thought-provoking content. His notable work includes The Office (UK), Extras, The Invention of Lying, the Night at the Museum series, etc. Over the years, he has received many awards for his work, including 2 Primetime Emmy Awards, 4 Golden Globe Awards, and 7 BAFTA Television Awards. Ricky Gervais made his film debut with the film Dog Eat Dog in 2001, where he played the role of Bouncer. He appeared in the Night at the Museum trilogy (2006, 2009, 2014) as the uptight museum director Dr. McPhee. He starred in the film Ghost Town (2008), where he played the role of Dr. Bertram Pincus. In 2009, he played Mark Bellison in the film The Invention of Lying alongside Jennifer Garner and Rob Lowe. He also co-wrote and co-directed the film with Matthew Robinson. In 2016, he reprised his popular The Office character David Brent in the mockumentary comedy film David Brent: Life on the Road. He has also worked as a voice actor in many films such as The Willoughbys (2020), Save Ralph (2021), Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank (2022), Dog Man (2025), etc.

Gervais made his TV debut with the show The Jim Tavaré Show in 1999. He got his breakthrough with the hit show The Office (2001-2003), co-created with Stephen Merchant, where he played the role of David Brent. Following The Office, he starred in the hit show Extras (2005–2007), where he played the role of a struggling actor, Andy Millman. Gervais also created and starred in the mockumentary show Life’s Too Short (2011–2013).
