Martin Short is a Canadian-American actor, comedian, and writer. He was born on March 26, 1950, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He started his acting career when he landed a role in a commercial in 1972. In the same year, he was cast by Stephen Schwartz for a hit musical Godspell. He made his acting debut in Right On (1972). He made his film debut with the film Lost and Found in 1979. He is best known for his work in comedy, appearing in hit films and TV shows. Over the years, he has become one of the most loved comedians in Hollywood.

He gained popularity with his sketch comedies; he performed in SCTV (1981-1994) and Saturday Night Live (1984-1985). He has been part of many famous films including Three Amigos! (1986), Father of the Bride (1991), The Pebble and Penguin (1995). He also has been part of hit shows like Primetime Glick (2001-2003) and Only Murders in the Building (2021). He has received many nominations including 19 Emmy Award nominations, 3 Golden Globes nominations, and 2 Tony Award nominations. He also won 2 Emmy Awards and a Tony Award.

Martin Short’s wife

Martin Short was married to Nancy Dolman, a Canadian actress and comedian. They both first met in 1972 while they were working together in a theater production of Godspell. She was an understudy for Gilda Radner's role. They quickly became close, fell in love, and got married in 1980. They were happily married for three decades. Nancy Dolman also used to work in the entertainment industry. She appeared in several TV shows including Soap, and she also performed in Jesus Christ Superstar, a rock opera. Nancy later decided to step away from acting to focus on her household and raise her kids.

She supported Martin throughout his career and played a big role in their children’s lives. In 2010, Nancy Dolman passed away from ovarian cancer. Her death was a great loss for Martin and their children. Martin has openly spoken about how difficult it was to lose her but has always kept her memory alive. In an interview with AARP, he said, “Our marriage was a triumph,” “So it’s tough. She died in 2010, but I still communicate with her all the time. It’s ‘Hey Nan,’ you know? How would she react to this decision or that, especially regarding our three kids.” He added, “I believe that when people die, they zoom into the people that love them. The idea that it just ends, and don’t speak of them — that’s wrong….to me, she’s still here.”

Martin Short and Nancy Dolman adopted 3 children- Katherine, Oliver, and Henry. As both of them keep their lives private, they raised their children away from the spotlight to give them a normal childhood. Despite that Martin wanted his children to go into show business. In 2019, on Late Night with Conan, he said, "None of them wanted to go into show business, and I pushed them," He jokingly added "I wanted them to go into show business. I make them do laps in the morning and I go to the balcony with my coffee and say, 'Quitter! Do it again!'"

Katherine Elizabeth is their eldest daughter born on December 3, 1993. She has a degree in psychology and a master's in social work.

Oliver Patrick is their second child born on April 29, 1986. He has a degree in TV and film production and he has worked in the industry from behind the scenes. Oliver worked as an executive assistant at Warner Bros. And also worked with FOX Sports, NBC Sports, and others. Henry Hayter is their youngest child born on August 4, 1989. He has a degree in finance and went on to work at the Royal Bank of Canada. In recent years he changed his field and is working as a veterinary assistant at Malibu Coast Animal Hospital.
