He began acting at a young age and rose to fame playing the teenage doctor in the TV show Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989–1993). He started his acting career in the late 1980s and has been working in the entertainment industry for more than 30 years.
He further gained popularity as Barney Stinson in the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014).
