Ruffnut Thorston and Tuffnut Thorston are the twins in the How to Train Your Dragon films. Ruffnut Eugene Thorston and Tuffnut LaVerne Thorston are the members of Hairy Hooligan Tribe. Ruffnut and Tuffnut have been voiced by Kristen Wiig and T.J. Miller, respectively.

In the original movie, the first three shorts, and the first television show, they are 14 years old. In Dragons: Race to the Edge, they are 17–19 years old; in How to Train Your Dragon 2, they are 19; in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, they are 20; and in How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming, they are 29. She and her brother share a Hideous Zippleback, named Barf and Belch, as their dragon.

Ruffnut and Tuffnut have a strong sibling relationship that is characterized by love and hate. Despite their frequent arguments and fights over trivial issues, they show an unbreakable bond and rarely spend too much time apart. They both find pleasure in experiencing pain, particularly when it is inflicted on one another. As seen by their repeated completion of each other's sentences or simultaneous expression of the same notion, they can comprehend each other's thoughts and ideas without speaking.

Also, Ruff and Tuff can synchronize themselves to carry out the same acts simultaneously and operate exceptionally effectively together (when they want to). It's also likely that, like other twins, they may sense the other's location and what happened to them.

Ruffnut and Tuffnut share a Hideous Zippleback dragon, whom they named Barf and Belch. Hiccup presented the dragons to their new riders in the first film. Since then, they have been inseparable.

Though not to the same extent as Hiccup's affection for Toothless, the twins have a deep affection for their dragon. Each twin (Barf and Ruff, Belch and Tuff) has a devoted head, and occasionally, the heads will fight when the twins fight.

If the heads believe that their Riders are in danger and that their frequent bickering is bothersome, they will usually cooperate. To save one another, the dragon and the rider are both prepared to put their necks in danger. Tuffnut claims that he and his "totally unawesome sister" share a "totally awesome dragon" in Barf and Belch.
