Zach Galifianakis’ Family​

American comedian Zach Galifianakis was born to Mary Frances and Harry Galifianakis. He has two siblings ­­­: an older brother, Greg, and a younger sister, Merritt. Galifianakis is married to Quinn Lundberg and the couple has two sons. He rose to fame with his role as Alan Garner in Todd Phillips’ “The Hangover” film series. His career in comedy began in the back of a hamburger joint in Times Square, and he eventually performed in live entertainment venues all across New York City.

Galifianakis is a two-time Primetime Emmy Award and Screen Actors Guild Award winner. Outside of his film appearances, he is known for his offbeat interview show “Between Two Ferns (2008-2018).” The show featured appearances by several prominent figures including Natalie Portman, Bradley Cooper, and Brad Pitt. Zach Galifianakis’ Parents

Galifianakis was born on October 1, 1969, to Mary Frances (Cashion) and Harry Galifianakis. He’s a native of Wilkesboro, North Carolina, where his mother ran a community arts center, while his father worked as a heating oil vendor. Harry was of Greek descent, and his mother has mostly English and Scottish ancestry.

Growing up in a small town, the comedian shared a close bond with his father, often joking with him alongside his brother. In an interview he revealed that his father always had a strong sense of humor and took pride in his son’s success. He recalls an incident where his father once stood on a street corner with a cardboard cutout of him, taken from a local movie theater.

Zach Galifianakis’ Siblings

Galifianakis’ older brother Greg is known for his role in “Between Two Ferns: The Movie (2019),” where he portrayed Greg Tooba. Beyond his appearance in the film, Greg has maintained a relatively private life. In a conversation with David Letterman, Galifianakis recounted a long-running joke, where he and their sister, Merritt, referred to Greg as “Craig” for several long years. The actor shares a close sibling bond with his younger sister Merritt. According to the Daily Mail, she now lives with her family in South Carolina, not far from where they grew up in Wilkesboro. A mother of two, she has remained close to Galifianakis and his family.

Zach Galifianakis’ Wife

Galifianakis is married to Quinn Lundberg. The couple reportedly married in a private ceremony on August 11, 2012. The comedian has expressed his deep affection for Lundberg throughout the years. In a 2011 interview with Rolling Stone, he said, “Quinn is the coolest. The coolest.” Later, in another interview with WIRED, he described himself as, “A guy who loves life, loves his children, loves his wife.” The pair have also appeared together at a few red-carpet events over the years.

Lundberg holds a degree in International Conflict Resolution from CUNY. She is also a former dancer and a dedicated social advocate. She co-founded the non-profit “Growing Voices” in 2008, which supported grassroots projects around the world until it was dissolved in 2016. She later co-founded “LOOM,” a modern reproductive and parenting education platform that began as a physical center in Los Angeles. In 2024, the platform was acquired by the women’s health company Perelel.

Zach Galifianakis’ Children

Zach Galifianakis and Quinn Lundberg are parents to two sons. Their first son, whose name has not been made public, was born on September 7, 2013. The same day, Galifianakis skipped the “Are You Here (2013),” premiere at the Toronto Film Festival to be present for the birth. Their second son, Rufus Emmanuel Lundberg, was born on November 7, 2016. Despite his fame, he has kept his family life notably private, with his children remaining unaware of their father’s celebrity status.

The comedian once humorously mentioned that his sons believe he works as an assistant librarian and not as a Hollywood actor. He’s also stated that they are unaware of his role in “The Hangover” films and that he plans to keep it that way, at least for now. “They shall never know of it,” he told Entertainment Tonight. He further stated, “You wanna protect their innocence as much as possible. They're just children."
