What happened minus the opinion
Daily Recaps
There was not a new column this week, so instead, please take a look back at what was happening in Springfield during the week of May 24, 2004.

For those who missed it (and even I missed most of it), the Daytime Emmys were Friday night and GL didn't get a single one of the awards they were up for. I managed to get to my Mom's about 10:30, and when I saw Ron Raines in the audience with his shirt unbuttoned and tie off, I knew we were done.

This is the time of year when many entertainment industries have awards show. It's a great time to see your favorite entertainers in a different light. But the outcome of the shows can really alter the way you see them.

I'll bet that each one of us has been to an awards show for their family members. Especially school-aged kids, this is a big day to either look forward to with eager anticipation, or dread that it's coming up on your calendar.

While I was certainly one of those "geeks" that Michelle Stafford from Y&R spoke of, and got my share of awards, I do remember the disappointment when you didn't get recognized for your hard work. As I sat watching the show with my Mom, I kept telling her two things with each category. Who I would like to see win, and who I thought WOULD win. Usually, I was right about the winner (maybe I can use this clairvoyance when I go to Vegas next month!) but it didn't make me feel any better for the actors, writing team and the whole GL crew that were nominated.

I always tell GL fans that it is much harder to not be a "cheerleader" of sorts after meeting the cast and crew. They are such hard working people, and really seem to enjoy what they do. Of course, I don't remember any awards given out at my job, but it's always nice to have that extra pat on the back to make you realize that people appreciate all that you do.

Before I forget - a big congratulations goes out to GL alum Rick Hearst (ex-Alan-Michael) who won Best Supporting Actor this year for his work on GH. I always loved him on the show and try to watch him when at all possible.

So while we ("we" being GL) didn't win any pretty golden statues last week, I sincerely hope that those involved with putting on the show know that their fans appreciate all that they do and support them in their craft.

I know that many of you write to the actors (and TPTB) from GL and I certainly encourage you to continue to do so. Each email that I receive gets forwarded to them as well - so they know exactly how we feel about all that goes on in Springfield. While I would certainly not expect a response, I do, on occasion, get a question or comment from the show. They are listening, and do read each email, so if you want to drop them a line, the email address is GL@cbs.com

And as I tell everyone who asks, some of my best GL memories are meeting fans at various appearances that the cast do throughout the year. Not only is it a great chance to meet your on-screen favorites, but also a great opportunity to make some great new friends who enjoy watching GL. With the summer season upon us, I expect that GL'ers will have more appearances scheduled. And I certainly hope that the show finally gives their fans ample warning so that we can promote their appearances here on Soap Central as well.

Sure hope I get to see many of you at a GL appearance this summer!! Keep the Light Shining and Have a Great Week!
