In the Season 19 finale, Teddy was suffering from a serious toothache all day but didn’t visit the dentist because of her schedule. Teddy along with her colleagues Lucas, and Mika went into the operating room to perform an emergency surgery on Sam. Suddenly, Teddy collapses in the OR, and Lucas and Mika try to wake her up. After a few tries, they start giving compressions to Teddy. Karen informs Owen about Teddy’s condition and he rushes to the operating room and takes over to save her.


In the 1st episode of Season 20, it was revealed that Teddy collapsed due to a dental infection. Her dental infection caused damage to her heart. Winston performed an emergency heart valve replacement surgery. There was no pulse in her leg, so she was rushed to the OR for surgery to remove the blood clot. Owen blamed himself for not taking her to the dentist and for giving her a smoothie instead. At the end of the episode, Teddy finally wakes up in the ICU with Owen by her side.

Kimberly Jayne Raver, also known as Kim Raver, played the role of Dr. Teddy Altman in Grey’s Anatomy. She is an American actress born on March 15, 1969 in New York. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drama from Boston University. At the age of 6, she started her acting career as a child actor in the TV series Sesame Street. She is best known for her role as Teddy Altman in Grey’s Anatomy. She joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy in Season 6, which aired in 2009.


Apart from Grey’s Anatomy, Raver has been a part of many projects including Law & Order (1996), Third Watch (1999-2005), 24 (2005-2007), Night at the Museum (2006), Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors (2018), and many more. She received a nomination at the Screen Actors Guild Awards for her performance as Audrey Raines in 24. In 2000, she got married to director and writer Manu Boyer. The couple has 2 sons together.
