Based on the DC Comics, Gotham premiered on Fox on September 22, 2014, and ended on April 25, 2019, after five successful seasons.
In most iterations of Batman, Gotham is mostly just a city filled with thugs for Batman to defeat. In an alternate timeline, Gotham’s society plays a role in the downfall of a man who ends up becoming an alternate version of the Joker.
However, in this iteration of Gotham, Warner Bros. did something entirely different. This version of Gotham covers topics such as Jim Gordon’s fight against police corruption within the Gotham PD as he eventually becomes the commissioner, the origin and growth of Batman’s iconic supporting cast of characters, and more importantly, the creation of Batman.
Oftentimes, Batman is the answer to Gotham PD’s problems whenever a criminal or villain is up to no good, but that’s not the case in Gotham. There is no Batman in Gotham, and because of that, Gotham dives deeper into the backgrounds of Bruce Wayne, Batman’s iconic villains and their rise to power within Gotham, and how Gotham PD managed to survive before Batman was running around being the Caped Crusader.
