As the series continues we see Penny, who becomes Leonard’s girlfriend and later his wife, living in the apartment for a few seasons. It was after Leonard and Penny's marriage that Sheldon decided to move into Penny's old apartment 4B in the same building. Sheldon moves into the room with his girlfriend Amy and continues to live in the apartment till the end of the series.
