Jackie Chan’s family

Jackie Chan was born to Charles Chan and Lee-Lee on April 7, 1954. He has been married to Joan Lin since 1982. Chan is the father of two children: Jaycee Chan and Etta Ng Chok Lam.

Internationally renowned actor and martial artist Jackie Chan began training in martial arts, drama, acrobatics, and singing at the age of seven at the Chinese Opera Research Institute. He entered the film industry at eight years old, appearing in his first movie, Big and Little Wong Tin Bar (1962). He worked as a stuntman for several years, including on Bruce Lee’s Fist of Fury (1972). Chan gained prominence in Hong Kong with his breakthrough in Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow (1978) and Drunken Master (1978).

He achieved success in Hollywood with Rumble in the Bronx (1996) and the Rush Hour franchise (1998-2007). He has since starred in several action comedies such as Shanghai Noon (2000), The Tuxedo (2002), and The Karate Kid (2010). Now 71, Chan continues to work in film and perform his own stunts. Most recently, he reprised his role as Mr. Han in Karate Kid: Legends. The sequel unites Chan with Ralph Macchio from the original Karate Kid trilogy (1984-1989) to train a new kung fu prodigy, Li Fong (Ben Wang).

Chan’s parents, Charles Chan (also known as Fang Daolong) and Lee-Lee, lived through significant social and historical changes in mid-twentieth-century China. Fang worked in intelligence during the 1930s and 1940s before relocating to Hong Kong in the early 1950s. Lee-Lee, previously a stage performer, also moved to Hong Kong around the same time after experiencing a period of financial hardship. Both had children from earlier marriages whom they had separated from during this time.

After settling in Hong Kong, Fang became known as Chen Jiping. They married and had a son in 1954: Jackie Chan, born Chan Kong-sang. Chan grew up without knowledge of his parents’ past or his half-siblings, learning about them much later when his father shared the family’s history, which was later documented in Mabel Cheung’s Traces of a Dragon (2003). Charles was also an actor and producer and is known for works like Saints and Soldiers (2003) and Police Story 2 (1988).

Jackie Chan has been married to Joan Lin (also known as Lin Feng-jiao) since December 1, 1982. Born on June 30, 1953, in Taiwan, Lin was a popular actress in the 1970s, known for films such as Da sha san fang (1973), The Story of a Small Town (original title: Xiao cheng gu shi) (1979), He Never Gives Up (original title: Wang yang zhong de yi tiao chuan) (1979). She retired from acting after marrying Chan.

The couple met in the early 1980s and married in a Los Angeles coffee shop in 1982 after Lin became pregnant with their son, Jaycee Chan. Over the years, Lin has also been involved in managing business ventures and has been listed as the legal representative of Beijing Zhongtai Longwei Real Estate Consultancy and Yigangzi (Beijing) Culture Communication.

Jackie Chan’s children

Chan and Lin welcomed their son Jaycee Chan in December 1982. Jaycee spent most of his childhood with his mother while Jackie focused on his film career. After attending the College of William and Mary for two semesters, Jaycee moved to Hong Kong to pursue acting and music. He pursued a career in entertainment, working as both an actor and singer. He debuted in the action comedy The Twins Effect II (2004). More recently, he appeared in the 2021 rom-com Good Night Beijing.

Jackie Chan’s daughter, Etta Ng Chok Lam, was born in January 1999 as a result of his relationship with former Miss Asia, Elaine Ng Yi-Lei. Chan acknowledged the affair in his memoir but has not publicly spoken in detail about Etta. According to People, in 2018, Etta and her partner Andi Autumn shared a video stating they had experienced homelessness. Later that year, in November, they announced their marriage on social media.
