Ortega grew up in La Quinta, California, and developed an interest in acting at the age of 6. She made her acting debut with the sitcom Rob in 2012. She started her film career with small roles in films like Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013), The Little Rascals Save the Day (2014), Wyrm (2019), etc. With time, she took on bigger roles, like in the horror-comedy The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020). In 2021, she starred in the film The Fallout, a teen drama film that explores the impact of a school shooting. Ortega was praised for her work in the film.

Ortega made her TV debut with a minor appearance in the show Rob in 2012. She started her TV career with guest appearances in shows like CSI: NY (2012) and Days of Our Lives (2013). She gained recognition for her role as young Jane in the popular show Jane the Virgin (2014–2019). She got her breakthrough with the Disney show Stuck in the Middle (2016–2018), where she played the lead role of Harley Diaz.

The film’s official trailer was released on YouTube on February 4, 2025. The cast of the film also includes The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan. The film is based on a musician struggling with insomnia meets a stranger who takes him on a journey that changes his life and reveals hidden truths.


On October 29, 2024, Deadline reported that Jenna Ortega would be starring in the upcoming thriller film The Gallerist alongside Natalie Portman. Cathy Yan will direct and co-write the film alongside James Pedersen. Natalie Portman will also be producing the film. It is about a gallerist who tries to sell a dead man at an Art Basel in Miami.


On February 1, 2024, Deadline reported that Jenna Ortega would be starring in an upcoming sci-fi film, Klara And The Sun, alongside Amy Adams. The film will be directed by Taika Waititi and is based on a novel of the same name by Kazuo Ishiguro. Ishiguro is also the executive producer of the film.
