What happened to Krysten Ritter in Breaking Bad?
Ritter’s character, Jane Margolis, was the love interest of Aaron Paul's iconic character, Jesse Pinkman, in the second season of Breaking Bad. Jane was Jesse’s landlady, and the two of them later started a relationship. Jane also introduced Jesse to heroin. Despite Jesse's drug addiction nearly ruining a drug deal, Walter White dropped Jesse's share after getting a threat from Jane. With the money acquired, Jesse and Jane discussed running away forever to New Zealand. However, instead of throwing the heroin away, they do it again and fall asleep.
Walter later returned to Jesse’s apartment and found the couple in a state of unconsciousness, due to the drug influence. While trying to wake Jesse up, Walter accidentally pushed Jane, who turned on her back and started choking. After hesitating for a bit, Walter silently watched Jane choke to death. The reason behind Walter’s action was mainly his concern for Jesse’s life getting ruined because of Jane’s influence.
Jane’s death is regarded as one of the most shocking moments of Television. Krysten Ritter herself shared her thoughts about it, in an episode of People TV’s CouchSurfing, where she said-
"It wasn't really until we were shooting it that the whole death around the character hit me. So, I knew I was gonna die. I'm reading the script, I'm like, 'Cool, rock and roll, she dies. So fun!”
Ritter then added -
“But then you're doing it, and you're in this death makeup; they built a cast for my chest so that Aaron Paul can really be pounding on my chest. And then Bryan [Cranston], after the take, you just see him sitting quietly in the corner. It was intense, and I will never forget it.”
